In a move that is sure to cause fandom outrage, Paramount has released an official image from G.I. Joe: Retaliation where Joe Colton is not wearing green, does not have flocked hair, and is not sporting king fu grip! Blasphemers!
In all seriousness, Bruce Willis as Joe Colton is looking pretty snazzy in this image, wearing a nice suit and getting ready to pop some caps in some Cobra ass. In the background you see Adrianne Pallicki following his lead. Good stuff…ready for more trailers and TV spots now!

Total Film magazine spoke to Jon Chu about G.I. Joe: Retaliation a bit, and focused somewhat on the comparisons between Mr. Chu and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra director Stephen Sommers. The G.I. Joe: Retaliation director had some interesting things to say:
“We’re different filmmakers and have different views on what G.I. Joe is.”
“I love the reality of our Joes. They have relationships with each other, aspirations; they care about the people of the world.
“We’re trying to add a lot more of that rather than doing cartoon fights with laser guns: everything is very practical and we’re doing as many physical things as possible – it’s not all greenscreen.”
Very interesting comments, and I like what I’m reading here. Obviously there was a big focus on special effects in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, especially with the whole Paris chase scene and the fandom reviled Accelerator Suits. I think getting back to basics and back to a more “real world” feel is a great step towards bringing the fans back on board. Very cool little tidbits.
Interesting in the midst of fan hooplah about recent comments from Michael Bay about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it’s very refreshing to read statements from a film maker who seems to understand what the mythology is about and appears to respect the history and make a film that lives up to the spirit of the brand.

Over the weekend, GIJoeClub.com showed the first image of the carded Cobra Commander from the G.I. Joe: Retaliation toyline, and yesterday they also released the first image of G.I. Joe: Retaliation Duke.
I’ll be the first to admit this card “art” is pretty underwhelming, especially considering all of the great package art G.I. Joe has been known for over the years. Hell, even the Rise of Cobra had fantastic painted artwork. Alas, those days are behind us, at least for the moment.

Now that Gary has returned from the UK, things are getting caught up around here, and the result is yet another episode of What’s on Joe Mind! Episode 46 was initially slated to be a “listener mail” episode, and we did cover a lot of that, but we also broke some news, addressed some concerns through our online surveys and still had time to bring in an interview with Zack Hoffman (the voice of Zartan from the Sunbow animated series)!

The figure releases must be getting close, as a few eBay auctions have appeared for test shots of G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures. Most of the images are pretty vanilla, but there is a very cool shot of the G.I. Joe Trooper’s backpack which shows several awesome holsters and a nice spot for a trenching tool.
At this point the auctions have ended, but thanks to HissTank.com for linking the auctions (and images) and you can see the mirrored images below.
