Quick review of Operation: HISS Webisode #1

Heh…in the last post I mentioned a month was a long time to wait for a follow up to a 5 minute webisode.  Turns out, the action itself only took just over 3 minutes.  Overall impression?  About what you’d expect for a direct-to-website feature catered to kids.  It’s done in CGI animation, purely computer models, and they looked like they were pulled from the cut scenes of the console game (which isn’t necessarily a good thing).  Some choppy animation, some stilted voice acting, and nothing that will really make the long time fans go crazy.  Definitely not G.I. Joe’s best side.
I still kinda dig seeing the movie universe further explored (especially since it would appear it’s vanishing entirely from store shelves with this G.I. Joe “reboot” this fall), but the end result did not blow my skirt up, which is really saying something when coming from this fanboy.  Regardless, I’ll be waiting the first Friday of every month just to see what’s next.
On the positive side, we did get some cool intel when the credits rolled!  I’ve mirrored some screen shots below, including a shot of the voice credits, which indicate that some other characters will be appearing in the series like Recondo, Helix, and Snow Job!  I’ll check out further installments just for that.
A fun way to spend a few minutes, but don’t expect Beast Wars or Starship Troopers…  the gallery is below.

Images emerge for Pursuit of Cobra Arctic Threat Destro

I should have my own review up very shortly, but for now, a few other places have gotten images up of the deceptively cool “Arctic Threat” Destro.  I say deceptive, because on the surface, he really doesn’t look that great, but once you really dig into the figure with the tooling, the removable jacket, and the absolutely amazing frosted paint scheme, this figure is really very, VERY nice.  I’ll let the following images speak for themselves, and will get my own review up swiftly.

New G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Destro reviewed at Infinite Hollywood

Infinite Hollywood has been posting some great reviews of G.I. Joe toys amongst other things over the past few months, and just put up a review for the recently released 12″ Rise of Cobra Destro figure by Hasbro.  In fact, this is the only version of a movie accurate suited Destro you’ll see on mass retail shelves.  I’m pretty surprised at how nice this figure really is.  The 12″ scale isn’t usually my bag, and the Rise of Cobra toys hadn’t changed my mind to this point, but Destro actually looks pretty neat.  I’ve got the SDCC Baroness, so I might have to snag this guy to go alongside her if I see it at retail.  Pretty cool.  Check out the review here.

Latest Rise of Cobra 12″ figures spotted at retail

I haven’t really been a fan of recent 12″ Hasbro figures, but the Rise of Cobra ones are actually drawing me in, if only a little bit.  I’ve seen Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Duke, Cobra Commander, and Ripcord, and they all have some sort of limited appeal which I cannot really describe.  They still have the silly, scrawny body types, sculpted uniforms, and general goofiness, but for whatever reason, I still think they’re kind of neat.  Not nearly neat enough to drop $16 on ’em, of course.

Regardless, for those folks who are into them, apparently the latest wave has started hitting retail according jroosa030 on HissTank.  He just scored the Destro and General Hawk, and I’ve mirrored images below.  I think both of these figures look pretty neat and fit into the RoC aesthetic remarkably well.  I dig ’em.

Pursuit of COBRA info and images in latest GIJCC Newsletter

The latest G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club newsletter is hitting mailboxes, and reports are coming in that the first assortment of Pursuit of COBRA figures is shown in full color glory inside!  Due to copyright reasons the GIJCC images will not be mirrored here, however I’ve linked the figures below to pictures gathered from JoeCon 2009:

ARCTIC THREAT

DESERT BATTLE

JUNGLE ASSAULT

VEHICLES

It’s not exactly clear what assortments are what, or when these will be released, though I’d imagine we’ll see them before years end, which rocks my world!  Of course, don’t forget to hit up the Pursuit of COBRA SuperPage for the lowdown on everything…
