We have a creative team for the new IDW “G.I. Joe” ongoing!

With thanks to Comic Book Resources for the initial announcement, IDW Publishing has named Karen Traviss the writer for their upcoming relaunch of the G.I. Joe comic.

G.I. Joe comes back to the front lines in September, featuring a team led by Scarlett in a story arc called “The Fall of G.I. Joe”.  According to the solicitation Cobra is now positioned as the “good guys”, becoming a new world peace keeping force and Scarlett needs to hold together the scattered remnants of the G.I. Joe team.  Steve Kurth will once again be handling the art chores.

I like the idea of Karen Traviss being tapped as the writer.  She has a long and established history of science fiction and military writing, including properties like Star Wars and Halo, not to mention she’s a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

To see some of her work, check out her Author Page on Amazon.com.

Hold the phone… G.I. Joe 3 is not dead yet!

I’m sure the thought has crossed many minds among the online G.I. Joe community, what with news of the Jem movie, and rumors that Jon Chu was in talks to direct another film following it, that perhaps the future of the G.I. Joe motion picture franchise wasn’t real pretty.  Heck, I’ll fully admit, I’ve been wondering the same thing.

Well, G.I. Joe film universe fans, there’s a little something to look forward to courtesy of the 2014 Licensing Expo and ComingSoon.net.  The eagle eyed reporters at Coming Soon spotted a G.I. Joe 3 Movie Poster.  It is impressive in its generic-ness, but the fact that a poster is there shows that it’s still on the mind at Paramount, and it’s not dead yet!

No real information beyond the image is available as of yet, but check out ComingSoon.net, and I’ve also mirrored the image below.

What’s on Joe Mind Special Edition #40 – Boss Fight Studio overload!

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing?  Hell no!  For Special Edition #40, we get four members of the illustrious Boss Fight Studio on the mikes, including Andrew, Erik, Fred, and Dave.  They came on the show to talk about their Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter Campaign, answer some hotly demanded questions, and just generally shoot the breeze.

Regular listeners know that Boss Fight are all good friends of the show, and we were happy to be able to sit down and talk with them for a good solid chunk of time.  Speaking of their Kickstarter campaign, consider supporting it if you haven’t already, we’re marching towards another stretch goal!  Listen to the episode on Podbean, or use the embedded player, and Show Notes are below.

SHOW NOTES

OK, we admit it, we are friends, fans and huge shills for our buddies at Boss Fight Studios.  Since their Kickstarter campaign launched, we’ve done nothing but talk about these guys.  Rightfully so!  They are a very talented group of artists who worked on our favorite brand and we want to see them do well away from the corporate shackles.  They are fans just like us trying to live the dream!  The great part is, even you can help!  Have a spare dollar?  Maybe a spare $30?  How about a spare $100 or more?  EVERY DOLLAR AND EVERY BACKER TO THE CAMPAIGN COUNTS!  It is a safe investment as the initial funding level has been met, but don’t let that deter you from pitching in!  Now, sometimes these Kickstarter things are a little bit difficult to understand.  How do I contribute my money?  Is it secure?  Do they take my money now?  What are the different contribution levels?  What are stretch goals?  Learn all about these questions and more in this special edition.  Pardon in advance on some of the audio breaking up.  We were stretching the bandwidth to its limits.  However, settle in as we discuss their project (and have some fun at Chuck’s expense) over the next hour.  We hope you enjoy and when you are done, here is the almighty link to allow you to contribute.  You won’t be disappointed!

Get G.I. Joe Represented in the Action Figure Hall of Fame

I think we’re all familiar with the Toy Hall of Fame, which indoctrinated G.I. Joe as a brand a couple of years ago.  But for the first time ever, we have an established Action Figure Hall of Fame!

Right now it’s a digital only representation, but you can check it out at ActionFigureHallofFame.com as well as on Facebook and Twitter.  There are a few G.I. Joe offerings up on the first ballet, so I’m hoping Joe fans can all come together and push them right to the top.

Check it out and place your votes!

The next FSS 3.0 figure is revealed… Repeater!

It was a bit late in the day today, but the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has revealed their next FSS 3.0 offering, and it is Repeater!

Using the same construction formula as the Night Force version from the Nocturnal Fire convention set, Repeater is decked out in a more accurate vintage paint scheme and comes with a great heavy machine gun.

Check it out at GIJoeClub.com, or mirrored below.

Sideshow Collectibles has discharged G.I. Joe…at least for now

The Year of the Snake has provided some of the best G.I. Joe Sideshow product we have seen to date, which is why it’s such a shame that G.I. Joe’s obscurity from retail has now extended to Sideshow Collectibles 12″ offerings.  At least for the next six months.

Sideshow Collectibles has announced that they will have no new G.I. Joe related news at SDCC this year, which means nothing of note until 2015 at the earliest.  As someone who just bought Major Bludd and is slated to get Destro in the mail on Wednesday, I’m disappointed by the news, but not necessarily surprised.

A quick perusal on the G.I. Joe section at SideshowToy.com will show you that many of their offerings are still in stock, and most of those offerings have been there for a while.  So, stay tuned, perhaps something cool will be coming next year, but for now, anyway, the disappearance of G.I. Joe at the 12″ scale has been extended to all formats.  Sound taps now.

Thanks to YT24 on Twitter for the heads up.

Next Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Stretch Goal is within reach!

As I currently write this, the Virtuvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter campaign sits at about $116,000 and is reaching towards the next stretch goal at $120,000.  Once that next stretch goal is unlocked, hungry toy fans will get the Underworld Warrior and Sthenos (Medusa’s sister) unlocked!

I’ve mentioned both of these characters before, but as I was taking a close up look at Sthenos today, I noticed something quite interesting.

If you check the image out below, on the left you’ll see some concept art for an unused “Pythona” action figure, art by Ron Rudat.  On the right, you’ll see the input art for Sthenos.

I gotta say that’s pretty awesome.  It looks like (intentional or not) this Pythona art is reflected in a couple of cool ways with Sthenos.  And of course, Sthenos has that amazing Cobra-themed command staff.  Some real fun stuff in this one, even if you’re not a mythology fan.  A little something for everyone.

So, think about supporting the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter campaign.  We’ll have to see what other Easter Eggs are hanging out there for us!

Share your thoughts on FSS 3.0 Hit & Run with the GIJCC

If you’re like me and were a bit disappointed about the Concept Case Hit & Run, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club is taking feedback in regards to a possible deco change!

You have to be a G.I. Joe Collectors Club member to vote, but if you are, consider going to the Collectors Club forums and sharing your thoughts.

Hit up GIJoeClub.com and let them know whether you prefer the concept case version or the Club mock up.
