In many ways the G.I. Joe: Retaliation action figure line is a testament to the timeless greatness of the G.I. Joe brand at large. I know in many areas of the fandom the hate flows freely in regards to the G.I. Joe: Retaliation toys, but truth be told, I think we all have a lot to be thankful for, especially when looking around the toy aisles and seeing what other film properties were dealing with in their licensed action figures.
Yes, the vehicle drivers got cost cut to five points of articulation, but by and large, from start to finish, the G.I. Joe: Retaliation line provided a wealth of terrific figures from all different era’s of G.I. Joe’s 30 year history and we should all be thankful.
There are two fans who are especially thankful. So thankful in fact, that they went through some great trouble to assemble a book focusing on the greatness of G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

It seems like so long ago that the Marauder “Task Force” Kickstarter was breaking through $200,000 and unlocking some crazy stretch goals in those last 24 hours. It all went by in a blur, as have the several months since that event. Well, for the first time ever we now have a good shot of the production level paint scheme for this great looking figures! These samples should be exactly how the final versions look when we all get them in our grubby little hands by the end of the year.
One word: IMPRESSIVE.

EDIT – You know, I was just going to report the story and move on… but I just can’t.
These figures look incredible. Absolutely incredible. Boss Fight Studio didn’t just hit a home run, they nailed an extra-inning game winning grand slam. These are straight-up spectacular.
Huge props to Kevin Watts and Ruben as well who hand-painted the original samples. Everything about this project is ringing true for me, and I am absolutely giddy to get some of these in my hands. Awesome stuff.

We are excited to report that IDW Publishing has revealed some NYCC exclusives, including a great exclusive cover to G.I. Joe #1 by none other than fan favorite Robert Atkins! Featuring G.I. Joe’s new field commander, Scarlett, this exclusive edition is available only at NYCC, limited to 300 copies (only 5 per person). They will be selling for $10 apiece.
At the show you can also pick up a blank cover edition of the issue to have your favorite artist draw their own.

With G.I. Joe’s recent rocky retail environment, and a film that’s still a long ways off, folks are finding more ways to celebrate their fandom, and the latest such endeavor is G.I. Drama. Launched on IndiGoGo today, G.I. Drama is a fanfilm based on everyone’s favorite 1980s action heroes, but they need your financial help!
The project is now live on IndiGoGo and is looking for your support, so please consider throwing some money their way and encouraging your fellow G.I. Joe fans to do the same! The link to IndiGoGo is below, and check out the full details as well.
G.I. Drama is a short film inspired by a team of classic animated heroes from the 1980’s.
The video that you’ve just watched is the prologue for G.I. Drama. It was first intended to be a self-funded short film (about 15 minutes in length). It was decided to use the starting funds to create a prologue for the film that can also act as a proof of concept for Crowd Funding. We hope that you’ve enjoyed these first few minutes of G.I. Drama. It is a small sample of the longer short that we would appreciate your help in backing.
What is G.I. DRAMA?
G.I. Drama was inspired by a team of army guys & girls that appeared in cartoon & comic form during the 1980’s. Rather being just an exact live action copy of the source material it has become an entity of its own. When not protecting America from a ruthless terrorist origination that’s determined to rule the world there were some very soap opera like story elements that these American heroes had to deal with. G.I. Drama parodies this by an increased focus on these melodramatic story elements. The story is set in the real world. It tells the planning and execution of a mission by an elite anti-terrorism team. While this is happening our heroes must also deal with a love triangle.
Funding Goal & Stretch Goals
Our initial funding raising goal is $15,000. These funds will pay for Indiegogo fees, rewards, locations, props, costumes, insurance and cast/crew salaries in order to produce the entire short. The goal of $15,000 is the expected minimal required for making this film. The script has been changed a multiple times already to reduce potential costs. Exceeding this goal will allow us to add more characters, better props, more location and improve the overall production. There is a Stretch Goal to meet or exceed $25,000 in order to re-included some scenes that were removed from the script. If Backers really want to show their support beyond these initial goals we’ll turn G.I. Drama from a short film to a web series or a feature length film.

Tomorrow marks the debut of the fourth “season” of an ongoing G.I. Joe title by IDW Publishing. Unlike what many folks out there are claiming, this is NOT a reboot, it’s simply a jump forward in time and continuation of the last ongoing G.I. Joe title. IDW numbers these series like television seasons, so if you think of this as the fourth season of an ongoing G.I. Joe television show, it falls into place a little better.

It was the flagship Cobra headquarters of the 1980s, and has now officially made the leap from action figure to building block set!
When the G.I. Joe Kre-O line first kicked off, it was more or less repackaged from existing Battleship sets, and it really looked the part. But throughout the past couple of years, it has evolved clearly into its own specific area of G.I. Joe fandom, and the sets have gotten more and more unique. The Terror Drome is certainly the star on top of the tree!
