The issue hit comic shops a good two weeks ago, and I am ashamedly slow on the draw, but I had to get my opinions of this new G.I. Joe relaunch from IDW Publishing down on digital paper.
I will admit right up front, I was hesitant to embrace this new theme for the comic, not because it seemed out of place, but because it seemed so far “in place”. In other words, the same themes G.I. Joe has been running with over the past four years. What could Karen Traviss do differently where others hadn’t yet explored?
As it turns out… there were some unexplored avenues, and Traviss spanned those waters nicely.

Before the G.I. Joe team can stop Cobra, they must continue to press through the Access Tunnels, but someone may pay the ultimate price…

There were some weird snippets coming out a week or two ago regarding some G.I. Joe kids meals toys in foreign countries, but for some reason I kind of let it slip past my radar. But then more and more started popping up. First in Turkey, then in the UK, and finally, now in Norway.
These kids’ meals toys are available at Burger King and feature a “snowmobile” (looking suspiciously like a HISS Tank), a “jet” (resembling a SHARC), and a “vehicle” which doesn’t seem to resemble any single G.I. Joe item, but the driver kinda looks like Snake Eyes.
Some very bizarre, but interesting offerings overseas. Time will tell if they will end up back over here in the states at any point. Check out some great pictures below courtesy of some of the folks from the G.I. Joe Discussion Group on Facebook.
YoJoe contributor skinny also found a great YouTube advertisement for the program as well:

When the fifth wave of G.I. Joe Kre-O mysteriously appeared a few weeks ago, some feared that perhaps the fourth wave might end up in some sort of Hasbro-limbo. Well, good news! A few separate reports have emerged of the fourth wave of G.I. Joe Kre-O being found at Toys “R” Us stores throughout the country.
Andrew over on the For Kre-On Out Loud Facebook Group reported finding the assortment, and even did the favor of breaking down the mini-figure layout inside! Keep in mind this breakdown only works if you find a fresh case, but it’s better than nothing, right, especially since (like Wave 5) these blind bags don’t have any codes.
Here’s what Andrew reports:
Break down is a little difficult, but here goes, left front to back, Chuckles, Budo, Alpine, Airborne, Air Adventurer, then along the side were Cobra Trooper. Right front to back, Wet suit, Tripwire, Night Viper, Cobra Nemesis, Cobra Viper and along the side Zartan.
GIJoeCD also reported in the comments section of GeneralsJoes that he found the assortment in Georgia.
Get to huntin’!

As NYCC chugs along, IDW Publishing has sent out a world-altering press release featuring the return of fan favorite Snake Eyes to the IDW G.I. Joe universe… but this isn’t the Snake Eyes we know and love. This Snake Eyes is an Agent of Cobra!
Now, I know what you’re thinking… and I was thinking the same thing. This is a gimmick, right? After all, Snake Eyes has pulled this trick before, in the events leading up to his “death”.
But, then I saw who was writing this mini-series.
Mike Costa.
Yes, Mike Costa is making is triumphant return to the IDW G.I. Joe universe, and I am officially on board. His work on the Cobra series throughout it’s multi-year run was some of the finest G.I. Joe themed storytelling I’ve read, and if he’s doing this Snake Eyes: Agent of Cobra title, I have the utmost confidence in what he’s got going on.
Check out the full press release below.
Snake Eyes Betrays G.I. JOE!
Allegiances Are Questioned In New Miniseries
San Diego, CA (October 9, 2014) – The fan-favorite G.I. JOE ninja is set to strike out on his own in an all-new series, G.I. JOE: Snake Eyes: Agent of COBRA! Debuting in January of 2015, this series builds upon the acclaimed new G.I. JOE series, released last month. With an exciting creative team and a secretive mission, the stakes have never been higher!
Snake Eyes’ shocking return to the world of G.I. JOE will see the long-time hero taking on a new role as a member of COBRA! Breaking DESTRO out of prison is just his first stop on this game-changing mission that will pit Snake Eyes directly against the G.I. JOE team led by Scarlett.
“Snake Eyes has been gone from the pages of IDW’s G.I. JOE books for almost two years, so his return alone would make for an incredible story,” says series editor Carlos Guzman. “But Mike’s idea to have him return on the side of Cobra begs so many exciting questions: What could cause Snake Eyes to join the enemy? How could Cobra convince G.I. JOE’s most dangerous warrior to betray his unit? What will G.I. JOE do when they find out the ninja commando has returned… but is now an agent for the villainous organization? There was no doubt that the answers would make this series one of the best G.I. JOE stories ever told!”
Praised for his work on G.I. JOE: The Cobra Files, Mike Costa returns to the world of G.I. JOE, writing this explosive series. Joined by artist Paolo Villanelli, who will provide covers and interior art, the duo will set Snake Eyes against unexpected new dangers.
“SNAKE EYES: AGENT OF COBRA is, without a doubt, the most exciting and action-packed story I’ve ever written in my six-year history with the G.I. JOE universe,” said Mike Costa. “I wanted to take the dark psychology and intrigue that made G.I. JOE: COBRA so fun to work on, and graft it into the DNA of a big action movie, starring G.I. JOE’s most iconic character. It’s probably my ultimate G.I. JOE story, and it’s really been fun to work on. I’d always tried to approach G.I. JOE: COBRA by asking myself “how could this get worse?” Well, Snake Eyes is working for Cobra. I think I’ve answered that question”
Find out the secrets of COBRA this January first-hand with Snake Eyes, and be sure to pre-order and reserve a special variant cover by Drew Johnson!

He may not be doing the art chores for any regular G.I. Joe books at the moment (unfortunately) but Robert Atkins has still been plugging away at his blog, Robert Atkins Art, and he recently hit a huge landmark, his 700th blog post! In celebration of this great achievement he has posted some great shots of the work he’s done for the IDW Limited series. Featuring three of the most famous faces in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, we see Atkins’ take on Snake Eyes, Destro, and the Baroness in a series of spectacular pieces of art.
Check out the 700th post right here. I’ve mirrored just a few images below, but be sure to check out his blog for even more.

There’s no doubt that a great hole opened in G.I. Joe history was Don Levine passed away, and knowing him as one of the developers of the brand that we all know and love, he’s certain to have some very interesting items in his own personal collection.
Now some of those one-of-a-kind items from his estate are being auctioned off through Nate D. Sanders collectibles auctions.
Check out the auctions right here, bidding is open until October 30th!

When the whispers first came of a return of 1980s Mego property Eagle Force, I was intrigued. Debuting in the early 80’s the original Eagle Force was a die cast line of 2.5″ action figures that unfortunately hit retail just as Mego was going under, and as such, never had a chance to truly reach their potential.
There is some crossover appeal between Eagle Force and G.I. Joe, as various customs have appeared throughout the community celebrating those die cast figures. But honestly, I hadn’t had an attachment to them as a child, so while I was intrigued, that’s about as far as it went.
Then the rumors started circulating that they would be 4″ military figures, and would feature modern construction and be highly articulated. Okay, my “intrigue” just went full on into “anticipation”.
Finally, the word came out that not only would Eagle Force’s return feature a 4″ modern military aesthetic, but they would also be designed and sculpted by Boss Fight Studio? Well, if there’s a stronger word than “anticipation” I now had it. I’ve been eagerly camped out at the Eagle Force Returns Facebook Page, just waiting for some new information to hit and now I’m very proud to say, thanks to the folks behind Fresh Monkey Fiction, I’ve been allowed to reveal the first ever look at Captain Eagle from the exciting Eagle Force return!

To say that he’s everything I hoped for would be a massive understatement. This is a guy who has been through the ringer and has come back for more. It’s immediately apparent that RIOT has made their presence known again, and Captain Eagle must come back into action to do battle for the safety of the world!
A joint venture between Fresh Monkey Fiction and Zica Toys, with design and sculpting by Boss Fight Studio, the return of Eagle Force certainly looks like something to celebrate in 2015! Do what I’ve been doing and set up shop at the Eagle Force Returns Facebook Page and at EagleForceReturns.com and keep those eyes peeled, because if this first piece of concept art is any indication, we are in for one hell of a ride next year. The Kickstarter will be launching in Q2 of 2015, and I’m already starting to save my pennies.
