Every year for the past few years, JoeCustoms member Kamakura has gone above and beyond the normal fan interaction, and has actually produced a convention exclusive figure that he sells on his own at the annual convention. Restricted mainly to JoeCustoms members, they retail for $30.00 and sell out FAST.
This year we’re getting a special treat…with a very nice 3 3/4″ version of everyone’s favorite Sigma 6 character, Lt. Stone! The final version will have a semi-translucent green robotic arm, and while the parts choices are not something you’d typically think of, they work very nicely together.
Check out the image below, and if you’re a JoeCustoms member, hit up this thread to stake your claim! I can’t wait.
Cobra Island – February 26, 2010 – Today, Cobra Commander has announced that Cobracon 2010 will be held at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island from April 29th to May 2nd. Cobra wants to make sure that the fans of Cobra do not confuse this show with GIJoecon 2010, also being held in Providence, Rhode Island from April 29th to May 2nd. No, CobraCon will be FAR more exciting!!!
Unlike last year’s convention (apologies again for the unexpected exposure of mind control gas at the Saturday Night Dinner event), this year’s CobraCon promises a smooth and relatively danger free show, complete with a special appearance by Black Major and his trusty comrades, the Red Shadows. Along with special guests, art contests, an invasion of Hasbro’s headquarters, panels and seminars featuring Hasbro and other Cobra supporters, this year’s convention is THE show to attend!
So what are you waiting for! Just head on over to our convention site now and sign up for the Cobra event of a lifetime. NOW! Cobraaaaaaaaaaa! www.CobraCon.com. Be sure to click the page to see our latest CobraCon video! About COBRA
For over 25 years, Cobra has been the leading international criminal organization, offering the whole of humanity the finest in criminal espionage, homicidal clones, doomsday scenarios and an alternative to the decadent and foolish governance of so-called ‘democracy.’ Located on Cobra Island and any number of small towns near you, Cobra reaches more people than any rival organization; with attacks on G.I. Joe and the many countries they help defend such as Japan, Great Britain, Brazil, Australia and Canada. For more information visit our convention site. Like most toy fans who are on the ‘net, I’m a big fan of David Willis’ Shortpacked! comic strip. Written and drawn by a devout Transformers fan, he has the ability to look into the very soul of the 21st Century toy fan…for better or worse. :shifty:
Well, along with Transformers, David is obviously a toy fan of other types as well, including G.I. Joe, and the cover of his third volume of collected strips shows some love…so to speak.
Check out the images below. I know it might ruffle some feathers out there, but I think it’s hilarious, and very well drawn to boot. Thanks to Jeff Bohn for the info!
TeeFury.com, well known for their 24 hour limited edition specialty t-shirts has posted a shirt featuring Cobra Commander! Retailing for a very reasonable $9.00, check it out at TeeFury.com! If you want it, grab it now, it’s only available for 24 hours. I’ve also mirrored some images of the design below…
Yeah, we all saw the 3-minute Operation: HISS animation that was…well… not so great. Obviously somewhat chopped together on a low budget and made for the lowest common denominator, there wasn’t really much to write home about.
The Operation: HISS comic from IDW, on the other hand…that’s definitely showing some promise. While it didn’t get rave reviews from IGN, the reviewers from HissTank and The Terror Drome both saw something to look forward to, and the image of the variant cover to issue #2 is absolutely kicking my ass. Major Bludd in reactive armor? Sweetness. Love the repurposed NATO armored vehicles as Cobra tanks is great, too.
So for folks out there who are interested in reading a bit more about the Rise of Cobra universe (like me) this is a nice surprise. Click the links below to check out the reviews:
I’m a little behind the eight ball with this one…he hit the mailbox just before Toy Fair, so got caught up in all of that, but here’s the review. You can hit it up on the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page or just read it directly right here!
For Joe fans who don’t check into the GI Joe Collectors’ Club forums, you can sometimes miss out on some nice little tidbits. For instance, this past weekend, Lanny revealed some awesome package art for the upcoming 3 3/4″ Adventure Team product that is supposed to debut at the Convention in Rhode Island this year.
That artwork is pretty damn stunning, I have to say.
Between the Red Shadows, Action Force, Dr. Venom, and the Adventure Team, this year’s Convention is gonna be a killer on the wallet, but I’m really looking forward to it. Check out the package art mirrored below as well.
Other tidbits from the GIJCC forums within the past few days… according to The Commander, the Red Torches will come with some different weapon assortments in the box! Sounds like they may not be straight-up flamethrower troopers. Also, the inclusion of Flint and Interrogator was most likely due to a dictation from Hasbro that they include a mainstream Joe and a mainstream Cobra in the Con set.
Some very cool behind the scenes info. Check it out, registration is free.
