New comic day today, and G.I. Joe #17 is on the docket…thanks to The Terror Drome, we’ve got a 5-page preview to share:

Written by Chuck Dixon with art by the awesome Robert Atkins. Interesting twist to have the Hard Master still alive in the IDW universe. I like it. I think seeing the whole Hard Master/Storm Shadow/Zartan conflict unfold in real time rather than as a flashback is a cool way to look at the story.
And yeah, I know a lot of folks are complaining about Destro’s full metal armor, but I think that’s kind of a neat twist, too. I still say IDW is doing a good job marrying the vintage look and feel with some interesting new ideas and giving us a pretty cool new sandbox to play in. It feels like it’s taken absolutely forever to get to this point, but things are finally starting to flesh themselves out.

TV Shows on DVD is reporting that Brian Ward, Shout! Factory producer who is working on the G.I. Joe: The Movie release has posted the following information on Shout!s official message boards:
“The Blu-ray release will be a BD/DVD combo. The BD will carry both widescreen and fullframe versions of the movie. The DVD will only have the original fullframe. Sadly, neither is captioned or subtitled.”
Am I the only one who is giddy about this? Granted, G.I. Joe: The Movie is the ultimate in Sunbow zaniness, but for some reason seeing it in widescreen Blu Ray format just has me excited. Just look at this, and imagine it in widescreen Blu Ray:
Unfortunately he did say he still couldn’t talk about bonus materials, but by the looks of things, we’ll hear something soon. Combine this with the Season 2 release on April 27th, and there’s some great class Joe goodness on the way.
A hilarious regularly updated comic has been going strong for a little while now, though I haven’t made much mention of it. I’m going to rectify that now. If you haven’t already, you really should check out Troops of Doom. Using all flavors of 1:18 scale action figures, he produces very funny geek-friendly comics that any Joe fan is sure to love.
As if that wasn’t enough, he’s celebrating his 200th episode today, and wants to celebrate with a contest! There doesn’t appear to be anything officially announced yet, but Kraig has reported on The Terror Drome that winning readers will be featured as characters in the Troops of Doom comic. Sounds like fun.
Check out the comic right here!
Thanks to the GI Joe Collectors’ Club for letting us know that the full schedule of events for JoeCon 2010 has been posted to GIJoeCon.com! Click here to check out the full schedule of events.
It looks like the Hasbro, IDW, and GIJCC Seminars will be at the following times:
Saturday, 9:00am – 9:50am: GIJCC Comic and Newsletter Q & A
Saturday, 3:00pm – 3:50pm: GIJCC Seminar and Roundtable
Saturday, 4:00pm – 4:50pm: IDW’s G.I. Joe Universe
Don’t forget, though, there will be tons of other terrific looking panels and seminars, including some great retrospective on A Real American Hero, early Adventure Team, etc.. for a full rundown of what each Seminar contains, click here. Personally, I’m really excited for Mark Bellomo’s presentation, describing the steps of producing a Filecard back in the 80’s. I think there will be some awesome information to be had here.
JoeCon 2010 is coming! Hopefully I’ll be seeing you in Providence!
For those of you attending the convention we have had a slight change in the program for the Awards Dinner on Saturday night:
Due to Rhode Island state laws (previously unbeknownst to us), we cannot host a Casino Night charity event. However, we have decided to go ahead with a charity auction, only this time, you will bid with real money not gaming points. You will be able to check out with cash or with credit card at the end of the auction.
We will have many different lots for you to bid on, and the proceeds for the evening all go to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Our goal is to raise at least $4,000 from this event. Together we can do it!
Dinner will be a sit down affair and we encourage you to dress in your favorite G.I. Joe costume or business casual (no t-shirts, please). We will have the Disguise Costume Contest parade where the winners will receive CASH! The audience will vote for the winners. Prizes are as follows: First place $300, Second place $150, Third place $75 and there will be two children’s winners that will receive $50 each. Thanks to Disguise for sponsoring this evening of fun! You must wear your name badge to gain admittance. All events for the evening will be in the Narragansett Ballroom at the Westin.
The Costume Contest will occur after the dinner but before the auction.
The circle can now be completed if you buy the Darth Vader vs. Obi-Wan Diorama that highlights the Brian’s Toys newsletter this week! Unfortunately, it is overshadows by the new and rare Vintage Star Wars AFA figures. This includes the Double-Telescoping Luke Skywalker!
