New G.I. Joe: Renegades Trailer launches on YouTube

After weeks and months of silence and somewhat frustrating lack of updates from Hasbro or The Hub, the G.I. Joe: Renegades publicity train has officially left the station and is barreling down the tracks. While we’ve seen some peeks here and there of the Renegades universe, here, we finally get the full on G.I. Joe: Renegades launch trailer treatment. And it is good. Very good.
Check out the embedded video below.

By now, folks know I’m eager to see this get rolling. This trailer has made me even more eager. Animation is nice and smooth, the story certainly doesn’t seem too stilted for the younger age set. Time will tell. I can’t wait for the 26th so we can get a real idea of how things are going to progress.

G.I. Joe: Renegades Tactics Game Online at Hubworld.com

Information comes via the lovehubworld Twitter account that a brand new G.I. Joe: Renegades flash-based game is now online at Hubworld.com!  Screenshots will be forthcoming, but for now, here is some information about the game:
About This Game
Brought to you by Hasbro
Framed for a crime they didn’t commit, the Joes are on the run! Battle your way through 20 different missions to find and defeat COBRA and restore G.I. Joe’s reputation. Choose the right strategies, weapons, and team for each mission. The chase is on!
How To Play
• Click soldiers to move them on the map. Click again to pick a weapon.
• Rescue innocent victims! Survive enemy ambushes! Complete all 20 missions to knock out the enemy!
• Use terrain, vehicles, buildings, and special attacks to beat COBRA.
• Earn medals to upgrade your units, weapons, and combat abilities.
• Each completed mission brings you closer to finding COBRA’s secret Weapons of Mass Destruction — and the proof of your innocence!”
An apparent tactical strategy game, there are dossier screens (many of them “classified”) and a pretty neat looking strategic element to the overall gameplay.  While I haven’t had a chance to fully dive into it yet, on the surface, it looks like a fun one, with some stuff to unlock.  I’ll be trying it after work, that’s for sure!  Or maybe even at work if I can get away with it.  😉

GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Cobra #9

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been enthusiastically following the G.I. Joe: Cobra ongoing series, even as it deviates from the more standard Cobra coverage and goes into the Coil’s more “cult like” tendencies.  I really enjoy this dynamic between the underground almost supernatural cult angle and the polished brick & mortar corporate structure, and somehow make them all mesh together in a seamless way.
I’m not sure they quite pulled it off by the end of this arc, but they did tell a pretty interesting tale.  I’ll be honest, though, I’m ready to move along and see what Chuckles has in store for us starting again with issue #10.
To avoid spoilers, I will continue the review after the jump.

Thank you

Every day, it seems, I complain about work.  But I have an okay paying job that essentially lets me sit at a computer all day and update this website.
Every day, it seems, I complain about my commute.  But I have a 15 minute drive over paved roads without risk of life.
Every day, it seems, I complain about finances, but at least there are finances to complain about, a country that allows me to spend (or mis-spend) how I see fit, and work as hard as I need to earn the income I want.
Thanks to everyone who has served, it is you who made this possible.  Not the politicians in Washington, but the guys and girls with boots on the ground, metal under their feet, a boat in the water, or wings in the air.  It is because of you that this country is what it is.
Thank you.

GeneralsJoes reviews IDW's G.I. Joe: Origins #20 – 21

During New York ComicCon it was revealed that the G.I. Joe: Origins title was going to be fading away, and to be honest, I wasn’t extremely bothered by the news.  Sure, it’s one less G.I. Joe title on the shelves, but beyond snippets into the backgrounds of various characters, what were we really missing?
Well, then I remembered Issues #16 – 18…the Zartan origin.  That was good stuff.  Very good stuff.  Probably the best three issue run during the Origins series, which is pretty ironic, considering it was written by Chuck Dixon, who has been infamous for his up and down roller coaster through the main G.I. Joe title.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the Hama stuff at the beginning, but I’m ready to start moving on.  I’m ready to start evolving the story, and not continuing to mull about in the past.  Origins going away was no big shakes.  What was more important to me was how was it going to leave?
Well, turns out, as one of the last stories to run within G.I. Joe: Origins, the mysterious tale of Michael Monk might just end the series on a very high note.

Another clue revealed for 2011 JoeCon Exclusive Set

Over on the GIJoeClub Message Boards, “The Commander” has posted yet another clue for the upcoming 2011 JoeCon Convention Exclusive set!

“These snakes like to hide in the heat!”

Sounds to me like we’re still talking about some  sort of Cobra jungle set…  and if they’re hiding, that would indicate camouflage.  And what’s the best camouflage Cobra has?  The Python Patrol technology rendered them completely invisible to radar and electronic detection… hmmm…  so at this point, we have three total clues:

  • “My, you look good in that camo pattern!”
  • “Time for a Rumble in the Jungle!”
  • “These snakes like to hide in the heat!”

So yes, it would certainly appear that a jungle themed battle involving two teams in camouflage would certainly apply.  I know Tiger Force is a popular suggestion…for some reason I don’t see it.  Python Patrol, though, that certainly sounds feasible.  Whatever it is, with the vast library of modern era tooling at their disposal, I think we’ll see some pretty cool stuff.
Continue hypothesizing!  The convention is relatively early in the year next year, so revelations should start coming soon, I would imagine.  Keep your eyes peeled to GIJoeClub.com for all the latest details!

Awesome Sunbow related high end auctions up for bids

Now, most of this stuff is going to go way over my pay grade…but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out.
Noted Sunbow G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero writer Ron Friedman has posted a number of his personal items to the Heritage Auction site…now just because most of us won’t be able to afford this stuff doesn’t mean we can’t look at the awesome pictures.  The images aren’t huge, but show some neat glimpses at character sheets, and my favorite is the Zartan image that has him labeled “Capt. Chameleon”.  Awesome.
Check out the auctions right here.
Thanks to Steevy Maximus from HissTank.com for the intel!
