We discovered last week that G.I. Joe: Renegades was now available on the Netflix Instant streaming service, much to the joy of G.I. Joe fans everywhere. Now, we have a few more details behind the decision, including some exciting information about other Netflix offerings throughout 2012.
Multichannel.com reports the following information:
“Netflix will add popular Hasbro Studios series Transformers Prime and My Little Pony to its online instant streaming service as part of a multi-year deal with Hasbro Inc, the companies announced Thursday.
The Hasbro content, which also includes kids-targeted series Pound Puppies, G.I. Joe: Renegades and The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, will be available immediately on Netflix, as well as the Netflix “Just For Kids” section targeted to children 12 and under. The series currently air on the Discovery Communications/Hasbro Inc.-owned Hub network.
Other series such as JEM & The Holograms, Transformers: Generation 1, G.I. Joe: Real American Heroes,Transformers: Beast Wars and Transformers: Rescue Bots will follow later in 2012, said Hasbro.
“We are very excited to be working with Hasbro Studios,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Content Acquisition at Netflix in a statement. “This deal allows us to offer even more great kids’ programming to our members, both adults and kids alike, including new seasons of My Little Pony, Transformers Prime and Pound Puppies after the season finale airs on The Hub.”
Added Hasbro Studios President Stephen Davis: “We are pleased that consumers will now be able to watch our award-winning programming on Netflix, the leading internet subscription service. We are making our content easy to access, anytime, anywhere and on all platforms where audiences are consuming content and this is a big step forward with our all-screen strategy.”
So for folks who couldn’t be bothered to read through all of that, later in 2012, not only can we expect the new series that appear on the Hub, but we can also expect the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero to appear on Netflix Instant streaming! How cool is that? And…and… woah…missed that the first read through… BEAST WARS!!! NICE!
Glad to see Hasbro expanding the potential audience for their brands, and hope this results in more awareness and possibly an increased attention at mass retail. Time will tell. Once again, you can find the original article on Multichannel.com.

by generalsjoes | Apr 5, 2012 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary, G.I. Joe Collectors Club, G.I. Joe Convention, JoeCon 2012, Show and Convention Coverage
Well lookee here!
The G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has ended a relative silence over the past month or two with a whopper of an update! The 2012 G.I. Joe Convention website has officially launched, and they’ve posted a teaser image. That teaser image is HUGE.
It looks like none other than Daina from the Oktober Guard. Wow. A modern era style Oktober Guard is something fans have been clamoring for over the past few years, and by the looks of things, we’ll be getting our wish. I wonder who they might be battling against?
We know that o-ring tooling is more or less gone, so it stands to reason that we’ll be getting a modern era update for these classic characters. The interesting thing to me will be how the Club writes these characters into the modern mythology. If they do end up doing updates for the classic characters like Horror Show or Brekhov or Stormavik, will they try and write them into their modern universe considering they died back in the Special Missions comic? Or are we only going to get Oktober Guard members who are still alive like Daina, Gorky, Misha, and Dragonsky.
I really hope the Club does ignore some of the deaths and gives us modern updates of those classic Oktober Guard characters, but I guess time will tell how they handle it. I’m just excited that there is some Convention news to discuss!
Check it all out right here, and make sure you keep looking there, as more teasers are bound to be posted, not to mention the full blown convention brochure coming up soon. JoeCon reveals! One of my most favorite times of the year!

by generalsjoes | Apr 4, 2012 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 2, G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes, G.I. Joe: The Movie
All right! Sure, I would much prefer some more footage these days, but I’ll take another press image as well, especially when it’s a very cool action shot of the one and only Storm Shadow!
Seen below in a strange white uniform (obviously reminiscent of previous images of him and what looks like Cobra Commander emerging from a laboratory) the Cobra Ninja is evidently overpowering a guard and preparing for his escape.
Escape from what? That’s the question. It would certainly appear that perhaps his body was retrieved by someone and kept in some sort of stasis, allowing him to survive…but how does that jive with Cobra Commander and the word that this Commander is a totally new character than what we saw in Rise of Cobra?
Verrrry interesting. Cannot WAIT to find out all the answers June 29th! Check out the mirrored image below and a big thanks to Twitter follower toycollector962 for the information.

Once again running about a week behind, but I just can’t help it with all of the IDW awesomeness that comic stores are getting hit with on a weekly basis! To this point I believe I have reviewed every installment of the Cobra Command series, and here is a helpful little rundown of all of those reviews:
I’ll be honest, it’s been a great ride, but obviously every story arc is only as good as the last memory of it. So how does Cobra Command shake out? Click the Read the Rest of the Story link below for the details.

The carded figure reveals continue, today it’s the wave 1 single pack Roadblock! The first thing you’ll notice is that his left hand is open… Unlike the three-pack version I reviewed as an early sample, this version of Roadblock only has the Battle Kata play feature permanently embedded in one hand, not both. That is some consolation, I suppose!
There is also a massive shoulder brace which I’m not certain we’ve seen in clear shots before, so that’s all good. And hey, with Roadblock you can almost pretend the packaging has unique artwork to represent the character inside!
Almost.

This post sort of ties in with some conversations I’ve had on Twitter lately, and also a very good Q & A session and discussion from our recording last night of the latest installment of What’s on Joe Mind.
Essentially the subject of the discussion is how successful can we expect G.I. Joe: Retaliation to be at the Box Office when Amazing Spider-Man is hitting theaters the following weekend? Should we realistically expect a big hit in Retaliation’s numbers? Does this mean that potential box office success for the G.I. Joe sequel is an impossibility?
You know, I’m not so sure.
Click the Read the Rest of the Story link below for my thoughts.

Over the past few years, Gyre-Viper has become pretty well known throughout the community mostly for his early modern samples that he gets his hands on and then showcases for the rest of us. However, one thing he hasn’t been getting much credit for lately is his ability to dig out some awesome stuff from the past.
Everyone’s work on the excellent JoeDeclassified Spec Ops podcast has brought some of those age old mysteries back to the forefront. Meanwhile, Gyre-Viper has also been posting some great tidbits via his Twitter account. Just this week we got some great pictures of concept art for Chuckles as well as a great inter-office communication which reveals that perhaps the Special Missions Brazil set in 1986 changed somewhere along the way. It’s all good stuff, and I’m certain we’re going to get even more good stuff out of upcoming episode of JDSO.
Check out some of the mirrored images below, and follow Gyre-Viper on Twitter to see more of the great behind-the-scenes intel. I promise more stuff is coming, and from what I hear, a question that’s been on fans’ minds for the past 25 years will be answered on an upcoming episode. Can’t beat it.

While folks are probably used to seeing Mr. Hama at various conventions around the country in recent years, I don’t hear many tales of him doing signings at comic book stores. Well, consider that changed!
Hub Comics out of Somerville, MA is featuring the godfather of G.I. Joe as a special guest, and you can find out all of the details right here. He will be appearing Saturday, April 7th from 11am to 4pm.
Now something that folks might not know is that the owner of Hub Comics is a long time G.I. Joe fan and historian, Tim Finn, who is currently working on an extensive coffee table book documenting the Real American Hero. He has posted updates to this terrific project on his WordPress site A Real American Book. So obviously Mr. Timm and Hub Comics are big friends of the G.I. Joe brand and anyone in the Boston area should hit it up and show their support!
