G.I. Joe: Renegades Super Site temporarily offline

So in my infinite wisdom, I decided to upgrade the Renegades SuperSite to WordPress 3.3 without verifying that the theme was compatible.  Well, it kinda exploded.  I’ll have to go through and make some repairs, which I plan on doing this weekend, but for a little while at least, the Renegades Super Site is offline.

I upgraded it, intending to get it more current with reviews, interviews, and links to the DVD Pre-Order, and I still plan on doing that after I can get the coding worked out.

Thanks for your patience.

As a G.I. Joe fan collecting movie memorabilia is a challenge

Last week, I posted my first installment in the League of Extraordinary Bloggers challenge, which focused on my favorite Saturday matinee “comfort movie”.  I went outside my normal G.I. Joe comfort zone and spent some time talking about the Amazing Spider-Man, the 70’s television series that I was always glued to whenever it was rebroadcast on Channel 56’s “Creature Double Feature”.

This week, however, I did want to try to keep my focus on G.I. Joe…but when the following topic came up, I really had to scratch my head:

You have an unlimited budget and space is not a problem. What piece of Hollywood memorabilia would you want hanging around in your batcave?

Hmm…  movie memorabilia and G.I. Joe…kind of an oxymoron.  What was I going to do, get a lifesize Molepod for my house?  Not so much.  Click the read the rest of this story link below to see if I can salvage this one.

Just an FYI about recent Credit Card issues and Fun Publications

I am posting this merely as an advisory, so please don’t take it as a strict word of warning.  Over the past few weeks, several folks who have made purchases through the Transformers Collectors’ Club have had some security issues with their credit cards following the purchases.  In some cases, these purchases were recent, in other cases they went back a little while.

To this point, these issues had not impacted the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club side of the house, until recently.  We have heard from a smattering of individuals that they have noticed mysterious charges on their credit cards, from many of the same shady vendors as folks are seeing on the Transformers side of the house.

At this point it is unknown what the source of these issues are.  I do not post this to incite panic, but just to remind everyone to keep a careful watch on your credit card statements at all times and be very vigilant with any purchases that are made online.  I think folks in the G.I. Joe community should be aware of these issues and just pay some extra attention to your statements.

At least one GeneralsJoes reader has written in with almost $600 in unauthorized charges.  While the credit card companies are generally able to assist with these issues, it’s up to you to be diligent in checking your statements and reporting issues to the proper individuals.

Error 503 Service Unavailable Issues may be resolved

Good morning!  Just a quick “techie” update.  Thanks with some heads up info from a web developer friend of mine, I have hopefully taken care of some of the Service Unavailable issues people have been seeing throughout the weekend.  The sudden spike in traffic was hitting the WordPress database pretty hard, but I tweaked a caching plug in, which should help alleviate some of those issues.

If you are continuing to encounter these problems, please let me know, either by email or by commenting on this post, so I can continue to explore resolutions to these problems.  It’s still possible I may need to upgrade my hosting plan, as they do have max limits of incoming connections, but let’s see how this works first.

Thanks to everyone for their patience, and for one heck of a record setting weekend here at GeneralsJoes!

The Best Saturdays were Amazing Spider-Man Saturdays

I’m doing something a bit new with this particular post.  Over on Twitter, I’ve been in pretty active conversations with many fellow bloggers who focus on pop culture and the whole 80’s phenomenon.  Well, the owner and admin over at Cool & Collected has started a neat initiative, entitled the “League of Extraordinary Bloggers” where several folks invested in pop culture would tackle a similar topic, and all of us would cross-link to each other in an attempt to create cool community atmosphere.  I know not nearly all of my readers are on Twitter and can appreciate the great interactive atmosphere we form there, so I thought if I took part in some of these posts it would be a cool way to give my readers access to some other pop culture blogs apart from the same G.I. Joe wordsmithing you get here.

A word of warning…because these are pop culture topics and 80’s topics, it won’t necessarily have a G.I. Joe focus.  This one doesn’t necessarily, though you will see a G.I. Joe cameo later on, I promise you.

Happy New Year from GeneralsJoes!

Well, it’s officially 2012 here on the East Coast and officially “G.I. Joe: Retaliation year”!

That’s right, from here on out, I can say “when G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits theaters this year”…  I know, I’m a freaking geek.

As I look over where the site was at the beginning of 2011 and where things are now, I can’t help but extend a warm and gracious “thank you” to everyone who finds time in their busy schedules to read my prattling about little plastic men.  I receive emails, Tweets, comments, and messages from folks who are often way kinder than I deserve, and I sincerely thank you.

2011 has been great…it’s been a wild ride, but something tells me we’re in for even better times over the next 12 months.  I look forward to sitting in the roller coaster next to you all.  Bring on G.I. Joe: Retaliation!
