What’s on Joe Mind Episode 63 – Canadian JoeCon, Hero Project, JoeBurg ahoy!

Wow, I think it’s safe to say this episode was packed.  We had a bunch of stuff to talk about, so we brought on The Mike from the Canadian JoeCon, the guys from the JoBurg Podcast, but we also really wanted to pay some close attention to the guys from Go Go Dynamo, who are behind The Hero Project and also were the lifeblood behind a little 8″ toy line you might have heard of… Sigma 6.

As many episodes of these podcasts that I’ve done, it surprises me that we can continue to talk to folks who I consider personal heroes.  Wayne and Tuck from Go Go Dynamo are absolute revolutionaries in design and art, and I considered it a true privilege to talk to them for an hour or so.  Cast whatever stones towards Sigma 6 that you might want to, but listening to their absolutely brilliant insight behind toy design, the G.I. Joe universe in 2005 and how that whole thing translates to The Hero Project was one of the most interesting and captivating 60 minutes I’ve ever spent on the show.  Truly awesome stuff.

Please consider supporting The Hero Project on Kickstarter, and once you’re done, come on back and hit up our Podbean Page to listen to the latest episode, especially because we also talk a ton about the awesome Canadian JoeCon and keep the JoBurg guys up way past their bed time.  Things get pretty wacky!

Will Ryan and Carded Footloose confirmed for 2012 G.I. Joe Convention

Registration has been live for just over 24 hours now and we have news of a new guest, and a new exclusive!

Will Ryan will be making an appearance at the Convention, which we actually first learned when the Brochure was revealed.  Mr. Ryan, of course, was the voice for Footloose in the Sunbow animated series.  As expected as well, thanks to a Tweet from the GIJoe Collectors Club Twitter feed, we also now know for sure that they will have carded Footloose figures available at the convention!

Limits have not yet been revealed, but let’s hope there are enough to go around.

The GIJoeCon.com website does not mention the carded Footloose figure yet (that I can see), but I have mirrored an image of the Tweet below.

Guest announced for 2012 G.I. Joe Convention – Neil Ross!

Well how is that for timing?  Fresh off an interview with What’s on Joe Mind, it has just been announced that the voice of Sunbow Shipwreck Neil Ross will be at the 2012 G.I. Joe Convention in New Orleans!

While I unfortunately missed the last recording, I listened to the interview and it was hilarious, I can imagine he’s going to be a terrific guest at the Convention as well.  Keep up to date with all of the latest and greatest G.I. Joe convention news and events at GIJoeCon.com!

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 55 is online

You know I almost didn’t post this, because as usual, I missed an episode with a famous Sunbow voice actor, and the guys took the opportunity to rib me about it…so screw ’em, right?

Nah.  I’m nothing if not forgiving, so I’ll play nice and post the latest update for the What’s on Joe Mind podcast.  This episode the guys are joined by Sunbow voice actor Neil Ross, who voiced the indelible Shipwreck, one of the most popular characters in the G.I. Joe mythology!

They also tackle all the latest news and information, and talk about the GIJCC 2012 Convention Set in its entirety. I’m jealous that I didn’t get the chance to share my .02.  Ah, well, maybe I’ll make them revisit it tomorrow night.

Official Announcement of Hasbro Studios and Netflix Deal

We discovered last week that G.I. Joe: Renegades was now available on the Netflix Instant streaming service, much to the joy of G.I. Joe fans everywhere.  Now, we have a few more details behind the decision, including some exciting information about other Netflix offerings throughout 2012.

Multichannel.com reports the following information:

“Netflix will add popular Hasbro Studios series Transformers Prime and My Little Pony to its online instant streaming service as part of a multi-year deal with Hasbro Inc, the companies announced Thursday.

The Hasbro content, which also includes kids-targeted series Pound Puppies, G.I. Joe: Renegades and The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, will be available immediately on Netflix, as well as the Netflix “Just For Kids” section targeted to children 12 and under. The series currently air on the Discovery Communications/Hasbro Inc.-owned Hub network.

Other series such as JEM & The Holograms, Transformers: Generation 1, G.I. Joe: Real American Heroes,Transformers: Beast Wars and Transformers: Rescue Bots will follow later in 2012, said Hasbro.

“We are very excited to be working with Hasbro Studios,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Content Acquisition at Netflix in a statement. “This deal allows us to offer even more great kids’ programming to our members, both adults and kids alike, including new seasons of My Little Pony, Transformers Prime and Pound Puppies after the season finale airs on The Hub.”

Added Hasbro Studios President Stephen Davis: “We are pleased that consumers will now be able to watch our award-winning programming on Netflix, the leading internet subscription service. We are making our content easy to access, anytime, anywhere and on all platforms where audiences are consuming content and this is a big step forward with our all-screen strategy.”

So for folks who couldn’t be bothered to read through all of that, later in 2012, not only can we expect the new series that appear on the Hub, but we can also expect the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero to appear on Netflix Instant streaming!  How cool is that?  And…and…  woah…missed that the first read through… BEAST WARS!!!  NICE!

Glad to see Hasbro expanding the potential audience for their brands, and hope this results in more awareness and possibly an increased attention at mass retail.  Time will tell.  Once again, you can find the original article on Multichannel.com.

Sunbow’s Doc and Zap voice actor to appear at BotCon

One of the great things about those old Sunbow cartoons was that there was quite a bit of cross over voice talent between them.  Chances are, most folks voicing one series probably did some work in the other.  The most obvious example of this, of course, would be Chris Latta’s work as both Cobra Commander and Starscream.

Recently, the G.I. Joe Convention has started inviting voice talent to their shows, while over on the Transformers side, BotCon has been doing it a while.  Well, BotCon is sticking to their formula, and this year making his first ever convention appearance will be the voice of Blaster, Buster Jones!

For G.I. Joe fans, this means Doc and Zap.  So if you’re a fan of either of these two characters, and you’re in the Dallas area, you may want to make a trip to BotCon…I’m not sure Mr. Jones is someone that the Collectors’ Club would invite to JoeCon, so get him while he’s hot!

Thanks to HissTank.com for the information.
