Assembly Required 2012 – AVAC’s Lab Terror Drome diorama

I don’t think the pictures even do this thing justice….  I talked about Assembly Required from the Codename: Iowa guys last week, and one of the showcases of that even was, without a doubt, the diorama by customizer/genius AVAC.  He’s famous for his HISS Tank themed and construction vehicle themed customs, but this diorama set totally goes above and beyond.  It’s simply spectacular.

These images were featured on HissTank.com, and the video was shared by the Codename: Iowa Facebook page that really shows the size, scale, and scope of this amazing diorama.

All I can say is I wanna play with this thing!  Just imagine the dio-story potential here… wow.

Check out the images and the embedded video below.  I think this qualifies as a Kick Ass Custom, to be sure.

Don’t forget you can also hit up the Codename: Iowa Goodsmiths store and pick up some of the great exclusive pieces they had for sale at the show.

New trademarks shed (just a tiny bit) of light on potential new G.I. Joe items

Thanks to BCYOJOE over on HissTank.com for reporting that the United States Patent & Trademark Office has reported some new trademarks registered to Hasbro in connection with the G.I. Joe brand.  These are trademarks for “Toy action figures and accessories for use therewith” and obviously are things to watch out for in coming years.

The list is below:

  • HEAVY DUTY (Trademark Number: 85774331)
  • ACTION MARINE (Trademark Number: 85774333)
  • ACTION SAILOR (Trademark Number: 85774334)
  • ACTION PILOT (Trademark Number: 85774335)

I will admit I find the new Heavy Duty trademark ironic (just signed 11/08/2012) considering he was always used as the default heavy weapons guy because Roadblock’s trademark was never available.

The other three, though…  BCYOJOE assumes they are for Hasbro’s 12″ line, and he’s probably right, but I don’t think we can assume that’s the only reason for the trademark.  2014 is, after all, the 50th Anniversary of G.I. Joe and it’s quite possible Hasbro will be re-visiting their classic nameless characters in various shapes and sizes.

Thanks again to BCYOJOE of HissTank.com for the info.

THE FUTURE OF OUR GI JOE COMIC OFFERINGS
—————————————-

Over the last year we’ve noticed a significant decline in sales of our
GI JOE comic book offerings.  We can speculate as to why (digital offerings,
the economy, changing collector demographics, etc.) but in the end we must
make a decision regarding whether or not this is a service that you, our
customer, is still interested in.

The GI JOE comic book offerings have been more or less a break-even
affair for us for a number of years but we have continued to offer the
books to support what we feel is a very important part of GI JOE’s
mythology.  Nevertheless, we’re dealing with a what appears to be a
prevailing trend of disinterest.  Also, there are some questionable
change-ups by IDW for the GI JOE comics in 2013 and we would be remiss in
not mentioning the perpetual service problems with Diamond Comic Distributors
(this is the most tactful way we can put that).

At the end of the year we’ll be making the decision as to whether to
continue offering the GI JOE comics.  We’re asking all customers who
are interested in seeing this service continue to please step in and pick
up the issues you’re missing in the next six weeks.  Our sales of the books
between now and December 31st will indicate to us if this is still a useful
offering for you.

JoeDeclassified drops a bombshell with cancelled Rise of Cobra barrage

You would think after three years we’d seen almost every canceled Rise of Cobra figure that was out there, but as usual, Gyre-Viper proves that thinking incorrect.  We’d heard rumors about these figures several times over the years, with the most solid information coming from package artist Mike Thompson, but for the first time ever, we are seeing plastic evidence of canceled Rise of Cobra figures Dr. Mindbender, Zap, and Budo.  Gyre-Viper also tosses in some more great images of Nano-B.A.T. while he’s at it, and to further prove the theory about these figures’ histories, Nano B.A.T. seems to come as part of the package with the other three figures.

Check out the very nice gallery of images at JoeDeClassified.com.  Dr. Mindbender is a very interesting looking addition, with the 25th Anniversary head sculpt and some great purple gloves as homage to the original.  Budo is mostly a Resolute Training Storm Shadow with what looks like the Hard Master head and the belt/ceremonial skirt from the Valor Vs. Venom Slice. Zap is obviously the most straight-forward update.

Rumors have persisted that these are part of a canceled second series of Wal-Mart Exclusive 2-packs, and Mike Thompson believed that was the case as well.  Check out a few of the mirrored images below, and look at all these great pictures at JoeDeClassified.com.  A huge thanks as always to Gyre-Viper for the pictures.

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 69 (Dude!) featuring new G.I. Joe writer Fred Van Lente

It seems so impossible that we’ve already hit 69 episodes of What’s on Joe Mind, but here we are.  And childish jokes aside, this is a great episode!  We spend some time throughout election night speaking with new IDW G.I. Joe writer Fred Van Lente and Marvel Director of Communications Arune Singh.  We also interview one of the brainchildren behind Cobra Stickers, RJ, and of course chock full of news and G.I. Joe related content.

I know we’re not pushing these out on a weekly basis anymore, but hopefully we’re generating content worth waiting for.  As always, check this out on our Podbean Page, or via the embedded players below.  Also make sure to click the Read the Rest of the Story link below for all the show notes.
