Destro from HissTank has continued his coverage of Wave 1 of the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA action figures with a bunch of pictures of Ripcord in his Delta 6 Accelerator Suit.
I know even I was a bit leery about the accelerator suits when pictures were shown quite a while ago, but seeing them in action in the Super Bowl spot changed my mind quick. Seeing this figure continues on that positive vibe. I’m a big fan of the sci-fi aspect of G.I. Joe, from the Mega Marines all the way up to Sigma 6, so I’m really digging these “super suits”. I’ve got a short list of movie-themed figures on my “must buy” list, but Ripcord is definitely one of them. I like this figure a lot.

A fascinating article today from BrandWeek.com has Paramount Marketer Megan Colligan talking about the summer films, including thoughts about G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA and Star Trek.
The article can be found here, and Ms. Colligan’s specific quotes about G.I. Joe are quoted below:

With two months in the books and a certain-to-be-exciting remaining 10 months in the year, 2009 is already shaping up to be a seminal year in G.I. Joe history. Regardless of your opinion on the movie, we can all agree it is a critical juncture in G.I. Joe history and something that could change the brand’s identity for a long time. Let’s all face it, G.I. Joe hasn’t had a ton of street cred since the 90’s, and this is a chance for it to become a focused, viable brand again, which is great news for all fans, even folks who aren’t wild about the look of the upcoming film.
With all of this excitement on the horizon, I took some time to talk to the G.I. Joe “godfather”, Larry Hama to find out what his thoughts are as the year goes on and The Rise of COBRA looms in the future.

Following on the heels of HalloweenCostume.com‘s huge list of Rise of COBRA themed character costumes, CostumeCraze.com debuts something that is likely to get them in hot water with Hasbro and Paramount.
Click on the image to the left to enlarge, and see “The Doctor” in all of his high res glory. An apparent homage to Dr. Mindbender (as well as linked to many other spoilers that I will refrain from mentioning here) it’s tough to argue that “The Doctor” looks just…well… rediculous. The blue monocle, the wrap around metal mask…man. I’m giving Rise of COBRA a lot of leeway, but I’m sorry, I’m just not sold on The Doctor’s look.
CostumeCraze also has a bunch of other costumes and G.I. Joe accessories (some not featured on HalloweenCostume.com). Check the rest out here.
Thanks to Destro at HissTank for the heads up!

Destro from HissTank has posted a review of the Wave 1 Heavy Duty from the upcoming Rise of COBRA toyline. A pretty typical offering with a mixed bag of good and bad…I am warming up to the movie toys, but this was pretty high on my list until the review, now I’m not so sure. I may just wait and get the uniformed one when he finally shows up:

Kudos to Destro for getting his grubby mits on this thing early. Nice to see some good pics and some insight! Click here to check out the thread with a ton of new pictures.

Overseas seller ws_toys comes through again, posting up a Rise of COBRA M.A.R.S. Industries Trooper figure to go along with the previously listed Officer.
I’ve also mirrored the pics below:

I’m not one for jumping on these Asian early birds, but I snagged these two figures. I can’t really explain it, but for some reason I find these two figures appealing, even in their never-ending grayness. The Officer is considerably cooler than the Trooper with all of the layered armor on his arms and legs, but I really love the tooling of both figures. The Trooper’s weapons are pretty much useless, but the figure itself is neat. I think these make for some pretty cool preview figures, though I don’t see myself going overboard on the movie stuff in general. Thanks to Hicks Royel of HissTank.com for the lead on this one.
