Resolute info straight from ToyFare #138

I know a lot of folks know that there’s a lot of G.I. Joe info in the latest Toy Fair, but being as Resolute is where my main love affair is these days, I figured I’d post something collecting as much of that info as possible. This is all gleaned from a few different articles and interviews in the magazine. If you like the information here, support ToyFare by buying it! 😉

  • A picture shows Duke, Snake Eyes, Stalker and Spirit, Spirit being a character we had not previously known about
  • There will be plenty of surprise characters showing up, but also some “twists” on familiar characters.
  • As we know, 60 minutes broken into 5 minute chunks with a 10 minute finale.  Scheduling is still being worked out, release should “certainly be sometime in the spring of 2009”.
  • Michael Verrechia reports that a way to add drama is to “lose characters”, but they need to find the right way to do it, “doing it in a way that made sense and not just for shock value”.

Most of the other information in the article is stuff we know already, but it’s always cool to see some added information from Hasbro.  There are quite a few words about the movie, and it sounds like this film is going to be full of serious “over the top” action, which can be good or bad.  Time will tell, I’ll wait for some footage before making a judgement on that.

New Resolute boxed set revealed

Most folks have seen it already, but if not, GIJoeClub.com has revealed the new Resolute 5-Pack that we’ve seen pre-orders for here, with more pics available here.

Now normally I don’t rehash news stories much here, because by the time I have a minute to talk about them, the entire fandom knows about it already, but since this is Resolute, I figured I was pretty much obligated to at least discuss it, with this being my favorite Joe toyline evah.  :shifty:

2008 – A Year in Review

First of all, I have to thank Scott from the JBL Forums for kind of putting this spark in my head.  I’ve wanted to do “years in review” for a while now, but just never really got around to it.  Decided to finally change that this year.

I’m going to do a rundown of the year in G.I. Joe, and throw some lists up of my “top moments/top toys” of the year.  In this particular year, there were a LOT to choose from.  Wow.

How I learned to love the movie…

Love the movie?  What?  To anyone on G.I. Joe message boards over the past six months those words almost seem blasphemous, as the outlook for the upcoming motion picture is bleak, to say the least.

To many fans it’s because the arrival of the movie means the “death” of the Anniversary homages, and in many people’s minds those figures will never come back.  To others, they fear the worst from the film standpoint, and can only imagine it suffering an immense and utter failure in plot and execution, thus “ruining” their memories and spitting on their childhood.

I feel verklempt

Nothing makes me weepy like good toys…and good looking toys to start a hellish Monday, too.  A great way to brighten the day.

HissTank forum members art2614 and Shimaneboy have come through with open pictures of Resolute Duke, COBRA Commander, and the COBRA Troopers.  These figures are simply…  mind-blowing.  Fan-freaking tastic.

I haven’t been shy about my love for Resolute, and my strong desire to see Hasbro keep moving forward with the Joe concept instead of infinitely reliving the past.  Vintage homages have their time and place, for sure, and the G.I. Joe line wouldn’t be where it is right now without them.  But man, I would love to see Resolute take the reigns and go crazy on their own line at some point.  The design, sculpting and execution is about as close to flawless as I’ve seen in this scale.  Terrific!
