Independent filmmaker and G.I. Joe fan “Flophouse” has produced a great documentary series covering Mark Bellomo’s journey through the publishing of his second volume for the Ultimate Guide to G.I. Joe. There are a whopping 18 total installments of this series, and they have all been posted on YouTube. For ease of navigation, I am embedding them all below so you can watch them all from one easy spot.
A big thanks to Flophouse and Mark Bellomo for taking the time to produce this fascinating series!

Amongst the recent hooplah over Stephen Sommers “did he or didn’t he” firing nonsense, film website /Film has posted a review of an early test screening that was done a few months ago. The footage was unfinished and the effects weren’t polished, but the reviewer gets an idea of how the movie will go.
By and large the review isn’t glowing to say the least, but there are some possible bright spots. “Anyways, even though the CG was incomplete in my screening, the action is pretty great…” the review says, continuing, “…the chase scene with Tatum and Wayans in the Iron Man suits is particularly well done. But rest assured as I’ve noticed a fear online that those suits play a big role; they don’t, they’re used in that scene and that scene only.”
It sounds pretty much like what we’ve come to expect. Loud, mindless fun, but not much else. I do agree with the writer’s sentiment that the film will probably sell lots of toys, and that might end up being a saving grace. We’ll all find out August 7th! Check out the full review here.

Ever since her illustrious debut in some nefarious eBay auctions, the mysterious character known as Agent Helix has become a talking point amongst the G.I. Joe fandom…I’m really starting to look forward to seeing how she meshes with the movie universe in the upcoming video game.
Thanks to Jeff Bohn for pointing out that an alternate cover for the upcoming Helix special from IDW has been posted on DeviantArt, courtesy of Dave Williams (BroHawk). The cover is shown in black and white as well as dazzling color! Check out the DeviantArt page right here, and the two images below. I’ m really looking forward to this book!

Somewhat under the radar, the G.I. Joe themed Monopoly game was released last week, and over at HissTank, Fast_Draw provides a neat, concise review of the game. There are some interesting optional rules additions to work with the Joe theme as well, which is pretty cool.

Over on HissTank.com, a member has posted some images of pre-production items, including something I haven’t seen before…maybe I’m just out of the loop, though.
Anyone seen this? Looks like some type of minisub, probably something COBRA or G.I. Joe uses in the underwater battle we’ve seen and heard so much about…

Regardless of where it’s slated to appear, it looks pretty bad ass.

Now that I’ve had a few more moments this morning, I’ve put together some screenshots of the Irategamer YouTube review, featuring some interesting images like Kamakura in the Reactive Armor, Scarlett during gameplay, and a picture of everyone’s headshot from the roster screens. The more I look at those rosters, the more I think those are indeed all of the playable characters in the game. We know there are four unlockable COBRA characters (Baroness, Destro, Firefly, and Storm Shadow), we know Shipwreck, Kamakura, Agent Helix, Sgt. Flash and Gung Ho are all characters playable in the game who don’t appear in the film. Then, of course, there’s the normal cast of movie characters.
Anyway…the screenshots are below.
