For horror movie buffs you can hit theaters today and not just dodge 3D chainsaws, but also 3D bullets and ninja throwing stars while you’re at it!
According to the director Jon Chu, the first 3D rendering of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer will be showing prior to Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D:

Even as my heart fell in love and my wallet screamed out in agony with the news of the Hot Toys G.I. Joe: Retaliation Snake Eyes reveal, Jay over at Entertainment News International was reaching out to Hot Toys to get more information, and he got it!
Word from Hot Toys to ENewsI is that there are three other Hot Toys releases planned for 2013, to include Joe Colton, Roadblock, and Storm Shadow! My first reaction is BOOOO no Cobra Commander, but my second reaction is YAY 12″ Bruce Willis! If these are popular, I’d expect more to follow, and hopefully those more include folks like Cobra Commander, Lady Jaye, Flint, and Firefly at the least.
I’m very interested to see how these end up… will Joe Colton be in combat togs, or in his fancy Secret Service suit? I imagine Storm Shadow will come with an unmasked and a masked head, will he come with his awesome white leather trench? So many questions…can’t wait to find out the answers. Hoooolyy wow. I think that most of us when the G.I. Joe: Retaliation license was announced for Hot Toys, assumed that we’d be getting some pretty cool, high end 12″ figures, but assumptions are one thing, and seeing it in image form are quite another. Good gravy.
Over on the official Hot Toys Facebook page, they have officially announced the first G.I. Joe: Retaliation 12″ figure as Snake Eyes and it is about 120 pounds of awesome in a 12″ package. Check out the mirrored images below, but sit back a little bit, so you don’t get drool on your keyboard.

This figure looks soooooo incredible. How the hell am I going to validate the $200 cost for this thing in my head over the next few months… the internal struggle begins!

One would think this would be a pretty easy, straight-forward article, right? I mean, we barely had a wave of figures released, and the vehicles were by and large unremarkable, so what is the point of this discussion?
Well, I kind of thought so, too, but then I started looking into what we got this year, and it became evident, that even with G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s short-lived shelf life, there was still plenty of topics to dissect and plenty to talk about in regards to 2012’s slate of G.I. Joe toys.
Now, a pair of items kind of had me in a quandry. While technically the Slaughter’s Marauders and Dreadnoks 7-Packs were shipped in 2012, I still consider them 2011 product. They were announced and solicited in 2011, and I received my sets in 2011, even though many folks got them in 2012. For that reason I did not include them when considering this list.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery on that?

Whatever you think about the state of G.I. Joe throughout 2012, I don’t think anyone can argue that it was a slow year for news. Quite the opposite! Going from nearly daily reports of movie updates, to the downward spiral of G.I. Joe: Retaliation confidence, and finally finding some middle ground with the great regional gatherings of Joe fans and the countless great independent projects.
It was quite the interesting year for G.I. Joe, and in celebration of 2012, I’m picking the top 12 news stories for the year. They may be good, they may be bad, but the end result is a collection of events throughout 2012 that paints a pretty cool picture when we look back on it.
