A little while ago I put some focus on a very cool 12″ Resolute Snake Eyes. Well, the guy who made it was selling it, and GeneralsJoes contributor Hawkwinter got his hands on it! Following, you can see his thoughts on this impressive looking custom of the coolest Snake Eyes figure evah!
This is a custom 12” Resolute Snake Eyes made by Toyphilia. (E-Bay seller name)
This stunning and incredibly accurate version of Snake Eyes was made using the Marvel Icons Punisher figure as a base. Resolute Snake Eyes detail was then added by adding epoxy putty and some attention to detail sculpting. Figure was then air brushed and hand-painted.
The big draw for someone like me is not only that this is based on the awesome Resolute version of Snake Eyes but that it’s exactly like the 3 3/4” figure just larger. I generally do not like the 12” figures as I find their clothes awkward looking and they just don’t look as cool as the 3 3/4” figures. Well this one does.
Now if only there were a matching Storm Shadow…….
Sideshow has done up a very cool video presenting their plans for the G.I. Joe license in conjunction with SDCC 2010! You can view it on their site right here.
I also took some screen shots from some of the more interesting items shown, such as Dusty and Stalker 12″ figure designs, Cobra Commander and Baroness statues, and dioramas featuring Cobra Commander, the Crimson Guard, Roadblock and more.
Check out the screen grabs below, watch the video here, or just check out the embedded video below as well.
I’ll admit, I’m not all that wild about the fact that Sideshow Collectibles is producing a Red Ninja figure before many other mainstream characters that would better benefit from their realistic style. But with the apparent news that the Red Ninja was originally supposed to be an SDCC Exclusive that didn’t hit deadline…well, I’m more forgiving. It helps that the figure does still look pretty amazing.
Sideshow Collectibles has posted a “Backstage Pass” to their Red Ninja page which you can view directly by clicking here.
There are currently two versions of the Red Ninja available for Pre-Order now! Check the banner below to place your order:
As promised, with the launch of the Sideshow Collectibles newsletter, the 12″ Red Ninja is now available for pre-order! As always, you can go one of two ways:
Yeah, I’m not a big fan of Sideshow going the Red Ninja route this early in the production run. Sure, I’d much rather see Destro, Zartan, General Hawk, or any number of characters like that.
But dammit if the Red Ninja doesn’t still look pretty damn cool.
The full gallery has been posted online in a Sideshow Production Blog, and you can check it out right here. He’s got that great pointy-masked head sculpt, an amazing assortment of ninja weapons of killing, and dude! A funny hat!
Seriously, not a big fan of the Red Ninja character here, but I can’t talk down the figure itself. A work of art, as always. Just itching to see that talent directed at some more A-listers. Don’t forget you can pre-order this figure through the newsletter on June 10th. I also plan on staying right on top of it, too, so keep your eyes peeled here and I’ll tell you when the green light flashes.
Hmm…this kind of came out of left field. We’ve all heard the rumors about what Sideshow has in the works, and hell, we’ve heard it from Sideshow themselves. Zartan, Destro, Crimson Guard, any of the females…there are plenty of characters on the docket that are screaming for some high end Sideshow greatness. So, when they debuted their latest release yesterday, it kind of took me by surprise.
Is there really enough demand for a Red Ninja figure to warrant a $125 release as a high end collectible? I’m not convinced.
Don’t get me wrong, from the small snippet we see here, the figure looks amazingly well-crafted, and I’m eager to see the final reveal, but this just seems like a strange choice when there are so many other iconic characters waiting in line. Granted, Sideshow has to take advantage of part tooling and part creation, and this likely allows them to get more mileage out of their Storm Shadow parts, but I was still a bit surprised.
According to Sideshow’s Website, a full reveal will be launched on June 8th in their production blog, with pre-orders beginning June 10th.
