It was initially thought that the fifth DVD Battle Pack would be a pack focused on the ’87 Movie, and from the figure selection, it’s obvious that’s what Hasbro was planning as well. Every figure in the fifth set includes figures definitely inspired by that movie, but something changed down the line. My own personal hypothesis is that Hasbro is planning on re-releasing a commemorative version of the movie on DVD this year to coincide with the live action film, so rather than “give it away” in this set, they’re holding it to sell it as a separate piece this summer.

I know I just posted one of these a few days ago, but I saw something great enough that I had to get another one going.
Checkout SnakeEyes1975’s Captain Grid Iron custom over on the JBL Forums. Holy CRAP. He managed to take a totally forgettible character, soup him up, give him a ton of great gear and make him a reputable 25th Anniversary figure! I would have never wanted to see an actual 25th Anniversary Grid-Iron figure, but if Hasbro did one like this, it would have been one of my favorites.
Awesome work.

So…I’ve always been an unabashed Comic fan from day one. Ever since I set my eyes on that huge, oversized Treasury Edition of G.I. Joe #1, I was captivated by the rich history and unique writing style that Larry Hama managed to weave for what was essentially a children’s toy tie-in. As with every licensed property, there were several ups and downs, but for the first 4 or 5 years of the comic history, it was mostly ups. It would be tough to argue that the series in general didn’t go downhill during the 90’s, it most certainly did, for whatever reason. Whether it was Hasbro’s influence, a matter of the material just running its course, or Mr. Hama writing himself into a few corners, I’m not sure. Regardless, the multiple brainwashings, the huge focus on Snake Eyes (and tieing so many characters into his past), and other such events left a bit of a black mark on the legacy of the Marvel series.

Well, that was actually easier than I thought it would be. Got the WordPress Update wrapped up this afternoon and added a new feature while I was at it. Check over on the left sidebar, and you’ll see “Justin’s Featured Vid” and “Justin’s Random Vids”. Those are two little plugins I dug up that will stream straight from Youtube. Expect the featured vid to change from time to time, and the Random vids will just kind of pull from my Youtube library. Mostly Joe stuff, but sometimes maybe not. Who knows?
By the way, if you don’t see the videos, just make sure you’ve got the latest version of Adobe Flash installed for your particular browser…
Also working on the review/”Best Moments” of the “Best of the 80’s” DVD Battle Pack, so there’s some…well… actual content to look forward to. 😉
Thanks as always for checking out the site!

There’s a major upgrade to the WordPress software out there, and I will be doing the upgrade at some point this weekend. So if you notice any plug ins missing or other things a little wonky, that’s what’s going on. It shouldn’t take too terribly long, but wanted to make you aware just in case.
Thanks!

So most folks have probably seen the lackluster pictures of the possible upcoming COBRA Viper Squad 5-Pack that’s slated to be a Toys “R” Us exclusive. This info was leaked by a regional board called the Coil, and now that same board has an update!
We all saw that one of the Vipers had a swappable head (no that is NOT a removable helmet) and many folks hypothosized that it was Mercer. Well, the Coil comes through again with filecard pics!
Check ’em out.
While I’m very bummed out that this set has the same unfortunate flaws that the original Vipers had, the inclusion of Mercer is very cool, and if they HAD fixed the arms, this would have been a “can’t miss” set. Instead it’s a sub-standard offering with the highlight of including Mercer. That’s such a nice touch that it almost makes it MORE disappointing that the figures themselves still have those same structural problems.

Well, are you? If you’re not, why the hell not?
This show seems like a “no brainer” for any G.I. Joe fan…anyone who is complaining about the movie not being “realistic” enough, or is fascinated with the idea of G.I. Joe being a more “real world” special ops team, then this is the EXACT show you should be watching every week. It rocks.

One thing I love about the G.I. Joe brand blossoming in 2008 and 2009 is that G.I. Joe sites seem to be multiplying. However, I believe this site would have come about regardless of Joe’s recent popularity. Dan Moore has been a long time collector and specializes in very unique items that aren’t necessarily the mainstream toy stuff. Well, he’s been working on this site for a few years now and finally JoeIntel.com has been launched.
It’s an archive site of sorts, but with a ton of great stuff that I don’t think a lot of folks have seen. There’s also some forums there, awesome web design, and a wealth of very cool stuff to see.
Check it out!
