We’ve seen GamePro and IGN both post previews of the upcoming Rise of COBRA video game by Electronic Arts, and due to the 2009 Game Developer’s Conference, a few other sites got their hands on an early build and have reported their findings as well. Although they don’t give us the level of detail (or the new screenshots) that the previous two previews do, there are still some nuggets of information (like Shipwreck being a playable character)! Anyway, check out the links below to visit some more sites doing coverage of the upcoming game.
I can only imagine that coverage will continue to ramp up leading up to the game’s release July 27th, 2009. It’s good to see the brand on the tip of everyone’s tongue these days.
It was a number of months ago that Latino Review got their hands on a copy of the Rise of COBRA script and went over it with a fine tooth comb…though that didn’t last long before Paramount lawyers descended from the heavens and smited (smote?) them. Well, now Idealogy of Madness is getting in on the game, and is giving a full blown script review right here.
Beware…obviously as a script review, there are spoilers littered throughout, and you will essentially find out exactly what happens in the film if you read this review. If that doesn’t phase you, then go for it. Part 2 will be revealed tomorrow.
A full rundown of items shipping through Previews during June, 2009 has been posted here. Included in this large list is a gathering of G.I. Joe related items, including the below list:
ws_toys bucks the trend this week and instead of offering high quality loose samples, he’s giving us some Mint on Card action figure goodness! Upcoming The Rise of COBRA Cobra COMMANDER figure is on eBay right here! Not only is this a good chance to own this figure months ahead of time, but it gives us our first ever glimpse of how COBRA Commander is going to appear in the upcoming film! ws_toys has actually posted three MOC auctions, the links are below, with images below that.
Video game website TrueGameHeadz.com had a chance to speak with Jason Enos, a Senior Product Manager from Electronic Arts, and took the opportunity to tape the interview, and it’s now being hosted on YouTube. Check it out below, some interesting info, though no major revalations:
Thanks to Fierce Krypton of HissTank.com for the info!
Hot on the heels of the GamePro Rise of COBRA preview, IGN.com has chimed in with their own preview for the upcoming video game coming out this summer. Just like GamePro, IGN provides some great new screenshots. In the screenshots below we see what looks to be Gung Ho has a playable character! Not only that, but we see a picture of Duke and Gung Ho battling against one of COBRA’s ominous new SNAKE armor robots, just a small example of the very cool homages we’re going to see in the game.
The write up also mentions that the four COBRA “bosses” in the game will be unlockable characters as well. The confirm for certain that Storm Shadow is one of them, and hypothesize that Destro, COBRA Commander, and the Baroness will be the other three. They also reveal that G.I. Joe helicopter pilot Wild Bill has a cameo.

cmdrinchief of The Coil Club and JoeBattleLines shares some pictures of the new upcoming Rise of COBRA Neo-Viper, showing some nice detail of his head sculpt and gear. This figure is the same as the MARS Industries Officer and Trooper, only with a new head sculpt and some new accessories, though I am a big fan of those accessories. I know lots of folks are panning the futuristic look of some of the weapons, but I think a lot of them look pretty cool. I hate the gun that comes with the MARS Trooper, but that’s just because it looks goofy, not necessarily because it’s a futuristic weapon…the guns that come with the Neo-Viper actually look pretty bad ass.
