G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA cast members awarded at ShoWest

For the past week we’ve been getting several reports of the sizzles and footage shown at ShoWest, and now, as the show wraps up, a couple of G.I. Joe’s stars received honors during the event.  Sienna Miller, starring as The Baroness, received the award for Supporting Actress of the Year, and had this to say:

“It was a strange experience,” she says of the commercial film, which includes myriad computer-generated effects she hasn’t yet seen. “I never had to duck in front of a green screen, pretending to dodge something that wasn’t there. But it is nice to get an award before the movie’s even out. I wonder if they’d do that with the Oscars. It takes the pressure off.”

Meanwhile, Dennis Quaid received his own award for Male Star of the Year, and will be appearing as General Hawk in the upcoming film.

Good to see G.I. Joe and its cast getting some mainstream publicity!  Click here to check out the article from USA Today about ShoWest and the awards.

More details about Rise of COBRA footage shown at ShoWest

SuperHeroHype is reporting that a more indepth look at the “Eiffel Tower” scene from G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA was shown during the Banquet and Awards ceremony which closed out ShoWest.  They have a fairly in depth run down of what happens in this scene:

“The scene begins with Miller’s The Baroness going up a glass elevator like we’ve seen in the teaser and Super Bowl spot. She arrives on a glass roof that she runs across, then we see Storm Shadow running down the hall toward the board room with the rocket launcher containing nanites (again as before), but this time one of the Joes in an accelerator suit–not quite sure if it was Duke or Ripcord–jumps towards Storm Shadow trying to stop him but the rocket gets fired as Storm Shadow gets knocked through the wall. The nanite-filled rocket hits the Eiffel Tower as before, and it starts eating away at the metal, but this time we see it in a much slower and longer process than any of the footage we’ve seen before. Storm Shadow jumps down to the roof below, while Channing Tatum’s Duke catches up to the Baroness on the roof, as she fires some sort of projectile weapon at him. He runs away as the weapon impacts on the glass roof, which shatters and sends him falling downwards before he grabs onto one of the supporting beams and pulls himself back up. The Baroness then runs towards the edge of the roof as a Cobra aircraft lands and she runs on board. Duke chases after her, then makes a leap off the edge of the roof, landing inside the craft with Baroness and Storm Shadow, and she tells him, “Congratulations, Duke, you just saved Paris… or at least most of it.” And then we’re back on the Eiffel Tower as the nanites have done enough damage that the entire thing starts toppling downwards.”

G.I. Joe Resolute to air on Adult Swim on April 25th!

Take this with a grain of salt as there has been zero confirmation from either Hasbro or Cartoon Network, but according to Adult Swim’s On Air Schedule, there is an entry for G.I. Joe: Resolute for Saturday, April 25th from 12:00am – 1:30am.  Again, we do not yet have confirmation for this information, but Adult Swim has published an “On Air” schedule, and there is, at this point, an entry for Resolute on April 25th.  This doesn’t appear to be a hoax, the on air schedule is pulled direct from Adultswim.com.

Is it true?  Keep your eyes here…I’m going to see what I can find out.

Thanks, of course, to SNAKE EYES, jedicrippler, and Shin Densetsu of HissTank.com for the heads up.

EDIT: This info is being somewhat reported by ToonZone.net as well…this is looking to be legit.  Fingers crossed.

Who is the “Elite Viper”? New Cardback images!

While everyone’s been ranting and raving about the new auction pictures posted of newer Rise of COBRA figures, Toy News International went one step further and managed to acquire cardback pictures of these new figures!  Among these cardback images, specifically the one for Deep Six, reveals a new, unknown COBRA Trooper, the “Elite Viper”.

The Elite Viper image on the cardback can be seen here.

Also, thanks to the larger carded images, we now know that Barbecue and Firefly appear to be part of a “Headquarters to Heroes” Toys “R” Us exclusives line.

To see all of these great larger images, click here, and big kudos to Toy News International for scoring these additional pictures!

EDIT – The images are now being mirrored in a gallery below…  Check ’em out!

Reviews for newly released IDW Comics showing up online

A few different sources have begun posting reviews of the most recent issues of the G.I. Joe comics online…  I’m starting to realize there just aren’t enough hours in the day for me to review everything I want to review, so I may have to be more selective.  🙁

Anyway, here’s what we’ve got so far sprinkling around the World Wide Web:

Very interesting reviews…I find it intriguing that the fringe books seem to be getting more positive buzz than the core book itself.  It doesn’t seem to be a reflection of Chuck Dixon’s writing (since he’s writing the movie prequel as well) but, whatever the reason, that is the case.  I do think that the core series started off somewhat slow, and has continued to crawl pace-wise for all 4 issues.  I think something has to start ramping up in that title soon, or it may just get too drawn out.  After all, the Marvel series told a very similar story way back in Issue #3, and it only took one issue to tell it.  How long do we really need to see Destro’s henchman playing X-Box?

Rise of COBRA Wave 1 Scarlett pictures

The well-connected cmderinchief comes through with some more pictures of an upcoming Rise of COBRA figure, this time in the form of the Wave 1 Scarlett.  He’s allowed me to host the images in a gallery below as well:

Hmmm…  yikes.  I know I’ll be waiting for the armored version myself, just something about that figure is not jiving with me.  Hasbro has proven that they can make decent looking female figures, but for whatever reason, Scarlett doesn’t make that cut.

Great pictures of upcoming Rise of COBRA items on eBay

Yesterday GeneralsJoes reported about a new set of eBay auctions hitting the web which featured a wealth of figures we had not yet seen for sale, however we didn’t want to host images without the sellers permission.  Well, we’ve received permission, and you can check out the gallery of images below featuring figures currently at auction from abee8808 and gotSWtoys.

abee8808 is selling the carded items, and he especially has some very, very nice pieces up for grabs.

abee8808:

gotSWtoys:

Another interesting thing to note is that the COBRA Commander figure that abe8808 has listed here looks quite a bit different than the one we’d seen previously at the Black Sheep Toy Store.  Check out a comparison image below:

Obviously these are early items and fans can expect some fluidity to the design, but as carded, near-production level pieces, it’s sort of odd to see such discrepencies…it will be interesting to see what we get once these figures actually hit retail.

G.I. Joe: Rise of COBRA auctions flood eBay

The floodgates are apparently starting to crack open as many more Rise of COBRA action figure auctions have started hitting eBay.  abee8088 and gotSWtoys are both loaded up with various carded and loose figures from the upcoming Rise of COBRA figure line, including Desert Convoy Duke, Trenchcoat Snake Eyes, TRU exclusive Firefly and Barbecue, Ice-Viper, Deep Six, and many others that we’ve already seen.

Check out both of those links above to see what these guys have for sale, and to see some more pics of these upcoming items!

New Amazon listings for IDW Comic releases

Amazon has posted new listings for a couple of upcoming IDW products, including Marvel reprints Volume 6 and the COBRA Trade Paperback.  There are no covers posted yet, but it’s very interesting to note that  Volume 6 of the Marvel reprints will likely start reprinting comics that have not been collected as of yet into previous Trade Paperbacks, so it’s a great chance to pick up where you left off on the Marvel series.

Big thanks to Jeff Bohn for the info!
