Oh, no! Gary has joined Justin’s site too?! Run for the hills!!
ACTUALLY, I am here to help a buddy out by occasionally adding content. Whether it is talking about the current state-of-the-line, defending the Red Sox and bashing the Patsies (Go Colts!), I’m here to just add to the community.
It has been my observation that a solid number of the online fandom are new(er) collectors. Whether they were vintage collectors from the 80’s who were lured back in with the Modern Era line, or just new collectors who simply started by picking up a figure at retail and got bit by the bug, many new fans have fired up the interwebs and have joined the online community. If this is you, WELCOME my friends, you picked a heck of a time to get (back) into the hobby (and thank you for choosing GJ’s – shamless plug)! I guess by comparison, I am one of those old foggies in the rocking chair as described by fellow GJ’s staffer Mike (I have Bulletman too! :P). Yikes, I just realized the other day that I remember when YoJoe launched…..geez, me-am-old!
IGN has posted some video of a supposed hands-on version of the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA video game, and put together a three minute video, also revealing some character specifics. The specific playable characters shown in the video are as follows:
Scarlett
Shipwreck
Duke
Snake Eyes
Kamakura
Ripcord
Backblast
Beachhead
Gung Ho
Flash
Heavy Duty
You can hit the site here, or I’ve also embedded the video below.
I’ve still got a small pile of figures and a ton of vehicles to wade through, so they’ll keep coming, but don’t be surprised if the pace slows down, at least a little bit. If folks are wondering why so many of these initial reviews are, for the most part, really positive, it’s because I’m doing my favorite stuff first. You’ll see reviews with a bit more balance coming down the pipe…especially when I get to Snake Eyes v.1. :shifty:
A forum member of AintitCoolNews.com message board “The Zone” reported that he saw an early screening of G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA, and these were his thoughts:
“I wanted to write something lastnight but i wasn’t really in the mood and i’m still not in the mood really. I will say this though, this was much better than i was thinking it would be. I walked in there with extremely low expectations and came out mildly surprised. The print i saw was a work print so there were some unfinished effects and other things that needed to be touched up. For those who followed the comic you may be disappointed with some of the backstory (like i was) but let’s face it, any comic that hollywood translates to film they are sure to add some of there own content whether we like it or not.”
More interesting info is that another forum member asked him about Brendan Fraser’s cameo, and this was his response:
“Brendan Frasier is in this film for about 5 minutes early in the film. I believe they said his name but i couldn’t catch it but he is wearing a beret just like Flint or Lt. Falcon so he might be either character.”
That pretty much confirms to me that Brendan Frasier is Sgt. Stone.
Also, “DVDChris” from the forum DVDTalk.com says “It’s nice to hear all these positive reviews coming out. Hopefully the haters will give the movie a chance. I got a chance to see the movie at a pre-screening myself and agree with all the reviews I’ve seen so far. It’s a very fun action movie, not at all what I was expecting.” That post is here.
Ultimately everyone will make up their own mind, but I do think it’s great to see such a positive reaction early on in the screening process. Thanks to Jergor of HissTank.com for these links!
You’d think with the absolute flood of Rise of COBRA product that the staff of YoJoe would be locked in a corner strapped into a straight jacket crying themselves to sleep. Well, turns out they’ve at least got enough time to add some content to the site between sobs!
Comics and Books – YoJoe has added a ton of IDW Comics, Trade Paperbacks, and other books
We broke this news a couple of weeks ago, but this is just a reminder that Toys “R” Us will be having a sale on their Rise of COBRA figures during the “Christmas in July” promotion next week, from July 19th through July 25th! An image of the ad (courtesy of HissTank member Dansolo) is below.
Kotaku.com has posted a short article about the extra content included within the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA video game, including some great screen shots, including a very nice picture of Joe Battle Files, with a sneak peek at several characters we may not have seen before. Check out the images below.

Love checking out that art…seeing that art makes me wonder if many of those are seeing retail release since they seem to be using package art? I’ll try not to get my hopes up too high upon seeing that Resolute Stalker in there… :shifty:
Thanks to Shin Densetsu of HissTank.com for the info.
HissTank staff member GeneralHawk59 reports from a local Wal-Mart that they have (for a limited time only) a template for engraving Rise of COBRA dogtags! Check out the original thread here, and I’ve mirrored a couple of images below.
