Underbrush over at JoeBattleLines has posted some very nice pictures of the 12″ Crimson Guard that was released at JoeCon 2009 last weekend in Kansas City. You can read the thread here, or check out the images mirrored below.
Even though most Joe fans these days have seen the Rise of Cobra film, I still love watching these TV Spots, so when SNAKE EYES posted links to some more on HissTank.com, I decided to add them to the SuperPage.
These’ll have to hold me over until DVD time. I’ve seen the film twice already, but I want to watch it again…forcing myself to wait for Blu-Ray, though, the theaters around here are garbage.
We can funnel all the information you want from JoeCon, but there are always a ton of interesting details at the roundtables that don’t seem to filter out to the sites. Luckily, the great guys at JoeCustoms let the video cameras roll and have posted part 1 of a video series from the Hasbro Panel at JoeCon 2009! Check it out below.
I’ve been so focused on getting figure reviews done, that I hadn’t really had a chance to roll out any vehicle reviews, but that changes today. Just added the Steel Crusher and Gunship to the Rise of COBRA Review page.
Images have emerged for the upcoming Toys “R” Us 5-Pack Troop Builders, and the Terror Drome has hosted them right here. Of course, I’ve also mirrored them below. It’s looking like the COBRA set is purely a “reissue” set with the Troopers not looking redecoed much at all (besides the Duke/Airborne covert ops figure mixed in there, of course). However, the Joe set is really interesting, sporting a nice new type of camouflage scheme and some great parts re-use. Four new characters to boot. Check out the images below.
Still playing a bit of catch up today and yesterday with JoeCon intel as I was on the road for a lot of the excitement, then ended up at work until after midnight with a Firewall/Switch issue. When it rains, it pours…
Anyway, a spontaneous Hasbro round table was held yesterday in conjunction with the Rise of COBRA panel, and they showcased a lot of images of upcoming 2010 exclusive items, mostly available at Toys “R” Us and Target stores. They also talked about some “zipcord” figure/vehicle sets intended for the kids’ market, but those vehicles will come with fully functional Pursuit of COBRA action figures in them. They are listed as follows:
Rip Attack Zipcord Vehicles
JetStorm Cycle w/ Snake Eyes
Tiger Snake w/ Street-Viper
Target Exclusives
RAM w/ Sandstorm (the Joe that Zartan kills and disguises himself as!)
Trouble Bubble w/ Elite-Viper
Glider w/ Ace
Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper (a darker colored Range-Viper from the 7-Pack? SOLD!)
Toys “R” Us Exclusives
Single Pack Doc (Arctic Threat)
Single Pack Shipwreck (Arctic Threat)
Sting Raider w/ Copperhead and Swamp-Viper (Swamp-Viper is an AVAC in green)
And in perhaps, some of the best news of the panel, Hasbro revealed they are retooling the Sigma 6 2.5″ Iron Hammer mechs to fit the full sized figures! Hell yeah!
The panel also discussed Shadow Tracker, who is a COBRA tracker who refuses to use guns, and only uses melee weapons. He was conceived of to work with Jungle-Vipers, who are all macked out on nanomites, and use advanced technology to pin down their targets, then Shadow Tracker goes in to finish them off. A very cool team, and an absolutely bad ass looking figure.
Announced during the Casino Dinner, The International G.I. Joe Collectors’ Convention in 2010 will occur April 29th – May 2nd and will be in Providence, Rhode Island!
Considering I’m on the East Coast, all I can say is W00T!! 🙂
Deadline Hollywood Daily and Box Office Mojo report that G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA dropped over 60% at the Box Office this Friday compared to last Friday, mostly due to the lack of midnight screenings, and the fact that District 9 is hitting the male audience very hard this week. Many of the online pundits are raising their glasses and toasting the “failure” of The Rise of COBRA to maintain a strong showing, in spite of it’s rocket launch last weekend, but I’m not especially concerned.
Even with the drastic drop off from last Friday, Rise of COBRA is projected to earn a potential $24 or $25 million this weekend, which would bring the domestic total very close to the $100 million mark, and combined with fairly furious international returns, by next week, G.I. Joe could break the $200 million barrier worldwide. Granted, Paramount has said they want $350 million to guarantee a sequel…that number looks a bit out of reach, but you never know.
I think if the film can come close to $300 million worldwide with a writers’ strike script, and some quick-cut edits right up to the last minute, I think Paramount will be willing to give it a second shot with a much more polished production and much more involvement with the COBRA side of things. Not sure I’d bet on Stephen Sommers returning, but only time will tell.
Phil from JoeReloaded has let us know that he has posted a 5-page preview for G.I. Joe Origins #6 right here. Of course, I’ve also mirrored it below. Scarlett is the focus of this one…
