IDW G.I. Joe Solicitations for May, 2013

With the new G.I. Joe #1 hitting this coming Wednesday, it’s hard to already think ahead to issue #4, but that’s what we’re doing with IDW’s May Solicitations.  Those solicits include the fourth issue of the main G.I. Joe as well as the latest issues of Cobra Files and G.I. Joe: Special Missions.  We get to see what Larry Hama is up to over on the Real American Hero book as well.

More concept art bubbles to the surface for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra video game

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is the gift that keeps on giving.  Even if you didn’t like the game a whole lot, it has offered a wealth of great concept art to enjoy.  Friend of the site notpicard has come across another slate of concept art from Darran Hurlbut, which features some characters and some environments seen in the game.  Big thanks to him for passing the info along.

Check it out at DarranArt.Blogspot.com or I’ve also mirrored images below.

Very cool G.I. Joe: Retaliation concept art uncovered

I don’t see a whole lot of unused concepts here, mostly costume designs that ended up in the film, but seeing the progression from art to reality is always awesome.  Over on ComicBookMovie.com nailbiter111 has dug up some of those costume concepts courtesy of Aaron Sims.

Check out the mirrored images below, or hit up ComicBookMovie.com for the full details.

GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 Firefly

Continuing on the G.I. Joe: Retaliation review marathon, today I finish up my Wave 2 reviews with none other than the Cobra Saboteur, Firefly!  The only Firefly figure being released complete with Ray Stevenson’s noggin, he also comes complete with a florescent green jacket and semi-transparent arms!  Considering how much I love my 90’s Joes, this was a bonus, not a detraction.  😉

Confirmation appears that Hasbro is still working on a Jurassic Park toyline

Over the past several years some pretty cool Jurassic Park toys using G.I. Joe tooling have appeared in the gray market and throughout Asia, indicating to G.I. Joe fans everywhere that some great potential fodder for their collections might be on the horizon.

So the fans waited…and waited…  and waited some more.  Here we are, two years down the line, and with still no Jurassic Park toyline at retail, it almost seemed like these items were destined for the dustbins of history.  Not so fast, my friends.

According to Variety, Hasbro is returning to Jurassic Park to assist Universal in revitalizing the now famous brand.  This news coincides with more auctions and Asian sellers appearing with various G.I. Joe themed Jurassic Park items.  All of this leads one to think that perhaps that G.I. Joe looking Jurassic Park toyline isn’t nearly as dead as we might have thought.

Granted, according to the article, toys won’t be hitting until 2014, so it’s entirely possible something totally new and different might be coming next year, but knowing how much Hasbro likes re-using tooling, I think it’s a safe bet that some of those very cool so-far unproduced Jurassic Park toys may find their way into collector hands.  Check out the full article right here, and for some great intel on the Jurassic Park/G.I. Joe connection, hit up JoeDeClassified.com.

GeneralsJoes reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 Flint

While the “Ultimate” Flint is still a ways off, we have a Flint available in Wave 2 of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation line.  Yes, he’s just a repaint of the version 1 Duke with a new head, but there are some merits to this figure as well.  Enough merits to buy this one instead of the upcoming “Ultimate” version?
