In the aftermath of the huge G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer marathon last week, there is still some big Retaliation news breaking!  Russ Sheath, (who also was awesome enough to contribute to GeneralsJoes last week about his experience with the G.I. Joe: Retaliation screening) had a chance to speak with Jon Chu on behalf of Aint It Cool News, and with some needling from me, asked Mr. Chu the big “Cobra Commander” question!

WARNING – THIS POST COULD CONTAIN SPOILERS.  PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK

There’s been some misinformation about in regards to the back story of Cobra Commander in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film, and both Russ and Jon tag-teamed to bring the true story.  The full interview can be found right here, but that particular snippet I’ve mirrored below:

“RS:  Can you shed some light on the much discussed ‘Cobra Commander Conundrum’ – which admittedly sounds like an episode of The Big Bang Theory? Is that Rex who end up wearing the Cobra Commander suit, in the movie?

JC:  I don’t know where all this crazy, speculative stuff came from. We were asked the question, Lorenzo [di Bonaventura, Producer) and I at Toy Fair…
‘Is that the same actor’?
I was like;
No, its not the same actor’.
Is that Joseph Gordon Levitt?’
No, it is not!’
But it is Rex!
We are continuing that story, there is no other Cobra Commander. We can put that rumor to rest. I was waiting for this moment to finally clarify, I’m glad you asked that.”

So there you have it, Joe fans!  Wonder no longer.  The Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: Retaliation is indeed the same “Rex” Cobra Commander we know from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  But that’s not the only interesting intel from the AICN interview, I highly recommend you check it out in its entirety right here.

Personally, I cannot thank Russ Sheath enough…he was awesome enough to contribute his own time and effort to the article here on GeneralsJoes, and he actually asked for some of my input for this AICN piece…hell, the fact that he’s waving the G.I. Joe banner at AICN is great stuff in and of itself!  He is a real Joe fan, so support him by checking out the article.  It’s a fantastic read.
