Well isn’t this a fine Friday morning surprise?
An email received from the G.I. Joe Collectors Club reveals that they have started shipping their membership exclusive figures for 2012! For us 3 3/4″ Real American Hero fans, that means Footloose should be in hand within the next few weeks! Woo hoo!
The letter also provides some instructions for renewing memberships within the new Club online store system. Check out the full email below!
Here are the latest updates from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club:
SURPRISE! This week we started mailing the FREE membership figures for 2012! We were able to get these manufactured much earlier this year, so off they go to you! It will take several weeks for them to reach all of the membership, so please be patient. If you don’t receive your figure by the end of May, please let us know.
In your April issue of the Club Magazine, you will find a letter that offers: credit card fraud counseling; instructions on how to place a credit alert on your accounts; and a free one-year subscription to a Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Recovery Service that we have purchased on your behalf.
If you have received any evidence of fraud on your credit cards, please call and make a report with the 800 number listed in the letter for the recovery services.
If you desire to take advantage of the Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Recovery Service, your letter contains an individually assigned certificate number that will allow you to activate the service. Do not share this certificate number with anyone as it is a one-time use certificate. In addition, you will need to activate your service by June 15, 2012. This service will last for 12 months once you activate it. Again, we apologize for any issues this problem has caused our membership.
Please note that your Club Magazine will be approximately 2 weeks later than normal as we wanted to give you time to check your mailing addresses in the new Club Store before we used it for the first mailing. You should receive your issue by May 4th. Please contact us after that date if you have not received your magazine.
Next week we will have the memberships back in the store. If you need to renew, all you have to do is put a credit card on file before your billing date (see My Account when you log in). The system will bill your renewal on that date. If you expire, you will need to go to the store, select the membership of your choice and check out. Then you will start again with the next mailing.
Finally, we are still working on getting all of our software and process back to normal. We hope to have registration available for G.I. Joe Con soon. We will send out an email when this is online.
Thanks for your support!

Okay, take this with a watermelon-sized grain of salt… but movie site Nuke The Fridge has received a message from someone who reports that they saw an early screening of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and they provided a very positive early review of the film.
This review involves a few spoilers, so I will post the review itself after the jump.
As for the validity of this? Well, normally I wouldn’t put much stock in it, especially considering the fact that the “spoilers” the reviewer reveals are mostly things that could be ascertained from the trailers, and if they’re not, they good just be their own hypothesis based on what we know so far. But combine this report with the rumors that two endings are being screened and it gets just a bit more credible.
Then there’s John Chu’s mysterious Tweet that came through over night as this news was breaking. Yes, it’s practically nothing, but he posted a Tweet that simply said “Soooo0….”. On it’s own, this is totally innocuous, but combined with all of these early screening rumors…I don’t know. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but seems like there could be some meat there.
Now there are also some reasons to be very dubious of this. Even though the news is just “getting out there” now, this review was posted on Nuke The Fridge on April 6th. Jon Chu has Tweeted on April 11th that he is still “making important editing decisions” and he Tweeted on April 10th that he was working with Jackman on the score. So obviously the film isn’t yet in a finished state. I know these early screenings are often done with unfinished films, so perhaps that is meaningless, but something to think about at any rate.
Of course it could also be that Chu is making some changes based on reactions they got at the screening…anyway, take it all for what it’s worth, and check out the review text itself after the jump.

Further cementing the whole Oktober Guard Convention 2012 theme, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has revealed a piece of art from their convention comic over on their Facebook page. The artist has not been revealed, but the penciled work is clearly Daina from the aforementioned Oktober Guard. Looks very nice!
Botcon will be capturing most of Fun Publications’ attention over the next few weeks, but soon enough the road will be paved for Joe Con in New Orleans, and I can’t wait for things to get rolling! Check out the mirrored image below.

With C2E2 almost in full swing, some information is coming out of Chicago a little early. Sources tell me that IDW may make an announcement this weekend that they are “streamlining” their G.I. Joe comic releases.
What exactly does “streamlining” mean? At this point your guess is as good as mine. I’m not sure if it means some titles are getting cancelled, but the word sounds somewhat ominous, especially considering how awesome the IDW comic universe has been in recent months.
I would imagine more information will come out of C2E2 itself, but a bit of a scary start to the event, at least for G.I. Joe comic fans. Stay tuned for the latest news and information as it comes!
EDIT – More information has emerged, from the Twitter account ComixAce. She Tweets the following:
“GI Joe, Magic, D&D and NInja Turtles will all be trimmed a bit – to ONE ongoing and the occasional mini, not more than one at a time. “
Ummm… shit.

Coming straight from the horse’s mouth, IDW Publishing’s Twitter account has revealed that they will be releasing a Danger Girl/G.I. Joe crossover somewhere down the line! While details are sparse, they did post an image of the cover featuring Abbie Chase, Cobra Commander, General Hawk, Duke, and… a couple other folks I don’t recognize.
Not sure exactly what to make of it, but according to Comic Book Resources “…Andy Hartnell will write the crossover with John Royle on art and J. Scott Campbell on covers. “Joe” editor John Barber and “Danger Girl” editor Scott Dunbier will tackle editing duties”.
Pretty neat for those Danger Girl and G.I. Joe fans out there… check out the mirrored image below.

A big thanks to Jimmy “PS” Hayes on Twitter for the heads up!
