As a G.I. Joe fan collecting movie memorabilia is a challenge

Last week, I posted my first installment in the League of Extraordinary Bloggers challenge, which focused on my favorite Saturday matinee “comfort movie”.  I went outside my normal G.I. Joe comfort zone and spent some time talking about the Amazing Spider-Man, the 70’s television series that I was always glued to whenever it was rebroadcast on Channel 56’s “Creature Double Feature”.

This week, however, I did want to try to keep my focus on G.I. Joe…but when the following topic came up, I really had to scratch my head:

You have an unlimited budget and space is not a problem. What piece of Hollywood memorabilia would you want hanging around in your batcave?

Hmm…  movie memorabilia and G.I. Joe…kind of an oxymoron.  What was I going to do, get a lifesize Molepod for my house?  Not so much.  Click the read the rest of this story link below to see if I can salvage this one.

I think I’m in love – the wackiest G.I. Joe fan art I’ve ever seen

If you love the 90’s like I do, then you already love wackiness in your G.I. Joe universe, so the fact that this particular artist focuses his attention on the 90’s stuff suits his crazy style very well.

It’s a style you have to get accostamed to, and it’s not something that most fans of hyper-realism are going to be into, but I absolutely love it.  The exaggerated proportions and the 90’s aesthetic is awesome.  I’ve mirrored three of the images below, but there are many more at his site, so you need to check it out and appreciate them.  They’re really awesome.

GeneralsJoes Kick Ass Custom – the Return!

Well, we’ll see how long the return is for.  It’s been a long time since I added a kick ass custom to the front page, but I had some time to kill before my training this morning, so I figured I would throw something up here, especially work that is so well deserved.

Over at HissTank.com, member Wry1 has been doing both fan art and customs that have absolutely blown me away.  I’m not sure why I haven’t featured them on the site sooner, but I could hold off no longer.  It’s hard to just pick out one good piece, so I figured I’d just link his latest thread which features his takes on Scarlett, Ripcord, and Rock n Roll.  They are amazing.  If G.I. Joe was real world, current day military, this is what I’d want them to look like.

He goes in better detail over on the site, but for now, I’ve also mirrored a few of the images below.  They’re worth checking out.

Just an FYI about recent Credit Card issues and Fun Publications

I am posting this merely as an advisory, so please don’t take it as a strict word of warning.  Over the past few weeks, several folks who have made purchases through the Transformers Collectors’ Club have had some security issues with their credit cards following the purchases.  In some cases, these purchases were recent, in other cases they went back a little while.

To this point, these issues had not impacted the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club side of the house, until recently.  We have heard from a smattering of individuals that they have noticed mysterious charges on their credit cards, from many of the same shady vendors as folks are seeing on the Transformers side of the house.

At this point it is unknown what the source of these issues are.  I do not post this to incite panic, but just to remind everyone to keep a careful watch on your credit card statements at all times and be very vigilant with any purchases that are made online.  I think folks in the G.I. Joe community should be aware of these issues and just pay some extra attention to your statements.

At least one GeneralsJoes reader has written in with almost $600 in unauthorized charges.  While the credit card companies are generally able to assist with these issues, it’s up to you to be diligent in checking your statements and reporting issues to the proper individuals.

RUMOR ALERT – G.I. Joe: Renegades follow up in the works?

Put this firmly in the rumor mill category at the moment, but as we’ve been discussing throughout the day, Rich from ARealAmericanHero.com is reporting that a “very trusted source” has confided to him that a follow up for the G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series is currently in the works.

The full text of the article is below:

“Great news Renegades fans! We’ve received word from a trusted source that a follow-up to the Hub’s G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series is in the works. While we can’t confirm if the season/series is in preliminary discussions or in development, we can verify aspirations to establish the new season/series as a continuation to the first season of Renegades and the plan to continue using Clément Sauvé’s animation style. Despite some reports that Renegades underperformed, our source (who our twitter friend @twitzilleris jokingly referring to as Deep-Six Throat) says Renegades actually did quite well.

Coincidentally, we see some possible similarities with the transitions of Renegades and the second season of the A Real American Hero animated series. If you recall, the first season of A Real American Hero centered around Duke and Scarlet as the lead characters, while season two shifted focus bringing Flint and Lady Jaye to the forefront. Could this changing of the guard be reprised 30 years later? While it’s only a hypothetical scenario, it is an interesting possibility since Hasbro claims to have putRenegades on hiatus to explore ways to continue the G.I. Joe: Retaliation story through animation. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.”

As I said, this must be considered very deep in rumor territory, but I do know from various conversations I’ve had with cast members that ratings were indeed very good and the feeling among folks at The Hub was that the series was a raging success.  News of its cancellation (which came to most folks before the series had even aired) was a great shock, and knowing the solid foundation they had in place, this news does not necessarily surprise me.

Normally I wouldn’t post something like this that was in such rumor territory, but I do trust Rich, and based on my own personal conversations with some folks involved in the series, it’s quite possible this is back on the table.

Granted, if the first steps are just being taken now, we likely won’t have any kind of product until 2013 at the earliest, but it’s nice to know that there might be the beginnings of something here.  Let’s all cross our fingers.  Thanks to Rich from ARealAmericanHero.com for relaying this intel.  That is, of course, if this rumor pans out.  Time will tell.
