Planet-Pulp is a terrific comic art site where artists can submit pieces in various stages of completion, and often work appears here in sketch form. Well, it just so happens that Robert Atkins is one of the folks who submits work to this site, and he recently posted a few images that just might be some covers to future IDW issues!
Looking at these sketches, a certain Cobra Ninja plays a very big part, which is awesome to see. We haven’t seen nearly enough Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow conflict in the modern IDW universe, so I like how things are looking.
You can see Robert Atkin’s great work right here.
And Robert’s not the only one! There’s a bunch of other very cool G.I. Joe themed artwork prevalent throughout the site, too. It’s definitely worth a look.

This show went so long it took Gary an extra day to edit!
In all seriousness, the latest episode of Whats on Joe Mind is now online, and trust me when I say, it’s a good one. Running just over 2 hours, the guys sat down and chatted at length with IDW G.I. Joe artist extraordinaire Robert Atkins, who had all sorts of awesome insight about not only the comics, but the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation film and even the G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series!
We also cover the latest news and intel and just shoot the breeze about all things G.I. Joe. Hit up our Podbean page to listen or download, and also feel free to use the embedded player below. Also, if you’re a fan of Robert Atkins, make sure you bookmark his awesome blog and hit it often. There is generally quite a bit of great G.I. Joe content there, and even when there’s not, he’s got some awesome art that he posts every day. Pretty incredible.
A huge thanks goes out to the awesome Mr. Atkins for taking some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us. It was terrific, and an episode I will not forget.

So last month when I reviewed Issue #26, I praised the art and the overall story, but was disappointed that this particular story was put where it was. A cool and fun tale, but it didn’t serve well as the culminating issue of a two-year long story arc.
I agreed to give Dixon one more chance to surprise me, and with Issue #27 hitting this week, it’s time to say whether he pulled it off.

This is it…the final issue in the so-called “Season One” arc of the mainstream G.I. Joe title from IDW. It’s been a roller coaster ride, through various ups and downs, and I’ll be the first to say that issue #26 was one of the downs. The story itself was exciting, the art was great, but it felt a bit like wasted potential for all of this build up to feature essentially the two character we know and feel the least about. We’ll see if Chuck Dixon can make amends with issue #27 tomorrow. Check out the 5-Page preview below.
G.I. JOE #27
Chuck Dixon (w) • Robert Atkins (a & c)
“M.A.S.S. DESTRUCTION” concludes here with Snake Eyes and Helix stranded at the top of the world in a desperate battle against time, the elements and COBRA. Expect an armored vehicle battle on the frozen wastes of an Arctic wasteland like you’ve never seen before. And a chilling shock ending you never thought you’d see!

Well, here we go! Yesterday I posted a review of G.I. Joe: Cobra #13, somewhat lamenting the end of that run, as we prepare to launch into another. Well, IDW has released the solicitations for May, 2011, and the next run is now in sight. Judging by the solicitations, it looks like it could be quite the run!
I am absolutely loving these Zack Howard covers, I’ll tell you that right now. Totally cool. A character totally out of left field, and another one who I’m not entirely sure about at all.
