The carded figure reveals continue, today it’s the wave 1 single pack Roadblock! The first thing you’ll notice is that his left hand is open… Unlike the three-pack version I reviewed as an early sample, this version of Roadblock only has the Battle Kata play feature permanently embedded in one hand, not both. That is some consolation, I suppose!
There is also a massive shoulder brace which I’m not certain we’ve seen in clear shots before, so that’s all good. And hey, with Roadblock you can almost pretend the packaging has unique artwork to represent the character inside!
Almost.

A short while ago, myself and my compatriots with the What’s on Joe Mind podcast had the unquestionable pleasure to sit down and interview Kevin Michael Richardson. Fans of animation know this fellow’s work very well. His recent role as Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Renegades is of course what brought him to our podcast, but he currently provides voices for Panthro in Thundercats, Bulkhead in Transformers: Prime, Kilowog in Green Lantern, as well as Cleveland Jr. on the Cleveland Show. This guy is literally in everything.
As usual when we talk to folks in the industry, we don’t always know what to expect… but I can say without hesitation that Mr. Richardson was one of the funniest and nicest guys we’ve ever had a chance to speak with, and we’ve spoken to a lot of folks over the past year.
But he also has the mouth of a sailor! We loved it, and had an absolute blast during the interview, but feel it necessary to warn those with sensitive ears that he’s not afraid to drop some bombs. We will be posting a more family friendly edited version along with episode 48 very shortly, but this guy was so hilarious that we just had to get an unedited version of the interview up, too, because we knew many fans would love it. So, big props to Gary for getting this posted on a Friday afternoon, and without further hesitation, hit up our Facebook Page or click the link below to have a listen. We guarantee you don’t want to miss this one!
At least in my neck of the woods, Sears isn’t a place you normally check to find toys. Because of that, I’m thankful that skywarpped from HissTank.com was perusing Sears.com and stumbled upon some G.I. Joe: Retaliation listings.
Granted, none of the figures are actually in stock yet, but there are a trio of images and some information at the very least. Possibly the coolest part of these listings is the Flash-based magnifying system which really lets you get some nice close up looks at these figures. Definitely check out the listings themselves for all of those nice little details.
See the lack of ankle articulation and permanently affixed Battle Kata in crystal clear HD!
Nothing has gotten the fans in an uproar more with G.I. Joe: Retaliation than the idea that Snake Eyes and Roadblock may possibly be Arashikage ninja brothers. While I’m sure there’s much more to the story than that, it’s obvious that the two are somehow linked, and it would appear that the third issue of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie prequel is going to touch on that connection.
IGN.com has posted a preview of the comic, which comes out on Wednesday. You can see it right here.
Big thanks to GeneralsJoes Twitter followers LtHowlett and Skot who both pretty much simultaneously let me know that IGN has posted a great video of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hyping up Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
It doesn’t reveal a whole lot of new information, but it certainly showcases The Rock’s personality and his enthusiasm when tackling this character. He speaks a bit about Roadblock’s “bond” with Snake Eyes, the “gun Kata” fighting style, and how the character remains skilled in the culinary arts and enjoys quoting a little poetry.
I will say it’s interesting how The Rock talks about Roadblock evolving into a “leader”, almost looking like he’s saying something he shouldn’t… does this confirm Duke’s exit from the film mythology? We’ll see in a few short months!
