Art for unpublished IDW G.I. Joe book posted on ComicArtFans.com

ComicArtFans member Shane Simek has posted 8 pages of lineart from an unpublished #0 issue that eventually got dumped for the story IDW went with when the format of the Joe book changed in production.

With art by Robert Atkins and a story written by Larry Hama, some of the stuff looks a lot more retro in nature, with some really dramatic action sequences as well, especially for only an 8-page layout.  Check out the great images right here.

G.I. Joe: Origins #4 reviews on the web

G.I. Joe: Origins #4 blew me away.  Honestly.  Granted, I’ve been enjoying the title thus far, but mostly in a “hey, this is neat” kind of way, with no real emotional commitment or feverent desire to immerse myself further into the Joe’s past.  But this issue changed all of that.  For some reason, everything just kind of came together into one very cohesive, excellently paced story that drew me deeply into this G.I. Joe mythos.

There was mystery, plenty of action, some very cool obscure homages and Mike Hawthorne’s art was absolutely terrific this time around.  Him and Larry Hama both really knocked this one out of the park.  Reviews are also online at some of the usual haunts:

I’ve also posted a mini gallery of images from the issue, too.  I was extremely pleasantly surprised with the fourth issue.  The other 3 have been good, but this one was GREAT.

Interview with Larry Hama on ComicBookResources

Thanks to JoeBattleLines for pointing out that Larry Hama has done a new interview for comics website Comic Book Resources.  He touches on many facets of his career, including (of course) G.I. Joe.

Of note, he had this to say about the film, “I was on board as a consultant on the movie. I’m seeing the latest cut at the end of May, but I really liked the rough cut I saw in December. Stu Beattie wrote a killer screenplay. Marlon Wayans rocks. Ray Park owns Snake-Eyes. ‘Nuff said.”

Check out the full interview here.
