AICN Contributor discusses G.I. Joe: Retaliation screening on radio show tonight!

Well, I gotta admit, this is way past my bedtime, but I’m hoping maybe someone might want to take one for the team here…  tonight, “Hercules”, a representative from Aint It Cool News will be recording a radio show entitled “Ask Dr. KERN”.

Hot on the heels of the delay of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Hercules will apparently be talking tonight to someone who actually saw one of the initial screenings for G.I. Joe: Retaliation!  I would assume they will be talking up the details and hopefully getting to the bottom of things…was the film really bad, or is it just a competition type of thing?

The show airs from 8:00pm Pacific through 10:00pm Pacific tonight, so I’m counting on some GeneralsJoes readers to tune in and report!  You can listen to the show live at KernRadio.com so I’m hoping someone might want to check it out and write down some notes.

If you do get some intel, please feel free to email it in to me and I’ll get a story posted about it!  I’m dying to hear more information about the screening and its potential positives and negatives, but I don’t see myself making it through 1:00am Eastern tonight, so any assistance would be great.

Or heck, if you just want to listen yourself, check it out KernRadio.com, and the full details can be found on AICN itself.  A  big thanks to Russ Sheath for the heads up!

Variety goes into unusual detail about G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy troubles

I must say I was pretty surprised when I saw this article emerge on Variety.com.  Variety typically covers the film industry, but upon news of the delay of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the site decided to explore a little bit about the retail side of things.

And the retail side of things sounds like a mess for Hasbro as we suspected.  According to Variety, retailers are being asked to ship G.I. Joe: Retaliation product back…although whether this is merely a request or a directive is not yet clear.  Variety also reached out to retail management, and was told point blank that they likely would not order the G.I. Joe product line in as large a number next March, simply because summer films do better business.

It’s an interesting article, and it’s rare that a mainstream Hollywood site goes into this type of detail when it comes to the toys.  Heck, they even mention how torqued off the hardcore fans are, and they mention JoeCon.

Definitely worth a read.  Check it out right here.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation toys released in Canada!

Thanks to HissTank member Nighthawk who sends along the following message…

“Retaliation toys are being released today in Canada and there will be NO restock until closer to movie.
Here’s some tidbits:
CC is the black version
Joe Trooper has the brown helmet and cape

Prices:
Singles: $10.99 each
Dojo sets: $29.99 each
AWE Striker and Fangboat: $14.99 each
HISS and Ghosthawk: $21.99 each”

These were all apparently found at a Candian Toys “R” Us, so Canadian Joe Collectors, have at ’em!!

Diamond G.I. Joe product images and potential release schedule

Now obviously take a lot of this info with a grain of salt as we don’t know how the film delay will impact any of this, especially the film oriented stuff.  It goes without saying that the Blu-Ray release date is invalid now, but I’m still a bit curious about all of the movie logo clothing.

Thanks to SNAKE EYES for sending these images and details along…I got them just before the big Retaliation news hit, so I’ve been a bit late in posting them.  Check out the details from the catalog below along with the image gallery.

Hasbro’s Official Statement regarding G.I. Joe: Retaliation toyline

Well, it took a couple of days, but Hasbro has chimed in about the status of their G.I. Joe: Retaliation toyline at retail, and as I think most of us expected, the news is not good.  Hasbro’s official statement reads as follows:

“G.I. Joe is an ongoing consumer franchise and therefore there is merchandise available to consumers.  There is a limited amount of G.I. Joe Retaliation product at retail now, but in light of the movie moving out to March 29, 2013, the majority of the movie line will be made available early next year in time for the film’s release.”

And…  that’s it.  With one small paragraph, almost 40 action figures that fans were very much looking forward to have now been pushed back to match the movie timing.  From the sounds of it, other than Wave 1 currently at retail, we’re in for another large scale hiatus until March of next year.

I will continue to keep my fingers crossed that they have some sort of information for us at JoeCon in New Orleans, but I don’t see how they could suddenly produce and distribute unplanned toys within the window of time we are currently looking at.

Obviously I will see if I can dig up any other information, and we’ll get updates to this story as they develop.
