The Joe Declassified Project will return to the G.I.Joe Collector’s Convention this year, and arriving back with a bang. For those that were able to visit us last year, you were privy to see some of the the coolest and most revealing Joe items of your collecting career. This year, we plan to return with more of the same, as well as another issue of our free newsletter! This one will be printed in full color, and come in at over 20 pages of Joe material, including a huge behind the scenes peek at DDP’s WWIII storyline by Mike O’Sullivan himself. Check out last year’s newsletter here. If you love this hobby like we do, then come on by our booth!
The Joe Declassified Mission Statement:
We feel that it is high time that we, the fans of G.I.Joe, take up the responsibility of ensuring the growth of our hobby – both in wealth of knowledge, and broadening the fan base to welcome everyone into the overarching community. As collectors, we have all spoken of, or heard others speak of things they wish to see in the community; secrets to be revealed, collecting tools made available, and so forth. We aim to go out of our way to ensure these voices are heard, and these desires become reality. We wish to work with other existing groups that are fan owned, operated and oriented, and seek to put aside those here solely to profit at the collectors expense; those who hold no love for our hobby.
We are putting our money where our mouth is. None of our endeavors will be for profit. A stronger, collaborative community is reward enough. Our newsletter was, and will continue to be, free to the collector. Our website aims to aid fellow collectors in every way possible, while stripping away old trappings that have discouraged us all in the past. With you, we will forge a stronger and united community based on sharing, inclusion and assistance. Now is the time for us to all come together and lead G.I.JOE back to being the number one toy brand is has been various times in the past. With you, we can make this happen. The future is yours.

Hot on the heels of San Diego ComicCon, the Interntional G.I. Joe Collectors’ Convention kicks off tomorrow night in Kansas City! GeneralsJoes and JoeBattleLines have guys on the ground and in the air towards KC as we speak, so expect some great coverage of the event as it happens. We will also be working with our buds over at The Terror Drome as well, and I’ll be putting in extra hours and late night work as well to make sure the Joe community is as informed as possible. As long as the wife doesn’t go into labor, of course… :shifty:
While we got a great look at a lot of product for 2009 at SDCC, we should get our first glimpse at 2010 stuff at JoeCon, and from what I hear, there is some AWESOME stuff coming. Rise of COBRA fans and old school Joe fans have a lot to look forward to, to be sure.

In case folks weren’t aware, Greg Horn, who is a big name in the comics world himself, will be appearing at JoeCon this week! He’s done numerous G.I. Joe related projects like some of the awesome painted comic pack covers, and convention related items as well. The full details are below:
Greg Horn is appearing at this year’s G.I. Joe Convention, with a
limited edition Baroness print, this weekend (August 14-16).
Greg Horn is best known for his artwork on MARVEL COMIC’s titles
ELEKTRA, EMMA FROST, and SHE-HULK. He is currently the regular cover
artist on the acclaimed series MS. MARVEL by Brian Reed. On the
licensing front, Greg’s art has been used on just about any piece of
merchandise you can think of! With WARNER BROS’ licensing division,
Greg has provided spot illustrations based on the SUPERMAN RETURNS
movie, and also an original painting for MATTEL’s board game
Kryptonite Crisis. Other recent WB projects have included a Superman
poster for CLAMPETT STUDIOS, and several illustrations of NBA star
Lebron James for POWERADE and ESPN.

16th Annual International G.I. JOE Convention features Action Figure Parachute Drop,
Special Guests from the Movie, and Thousands of Rare and Vintage G.I. JOE Figures
Kansas City, MO – August 10, 2009 – Over 300 12-inch, parachute-equipped, G.I. JOE action figures will be taking a plunge off a 42-story Kansas City hotel roof and soar over 500 feet to the ground as an army of G.I. JOE enthusiasts cheer at the incredible spectacle.
The parachute jump, at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 14, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, marks the official opening of the 16th annual Hasbro International G.I. JOE Collectors’ Convention hosted by the G.I. JOE Collectors’ Club and Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS). Attendees should arrive at the convention around 10:00 AM to ensure they don’t miss this amazing aerial stunt. For three days, thousands of G.I. JOE fans will meet at the Hyatt Regency to participate in events and activities that celebrate the brand’s 45-year history — with a special emphasis on the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA saga, the premise of this summer’s live action movie, G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra, from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro.
“We are excited to bring the fan convention and rich history of G.I. JOE to Kansas City during such a monumental year for the brand,” said Michael Ritchie, Global Brand Strategy and Marketing Director, G.I. JOE. “Attendees are going to participate in a weekend packed with G.I. JOE fandom as well as the latest and greatest from the G.I. JOE brand including activities and guests related to the live-action movie and new toy line.”
This year’s convention will feature a very special guest from G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra: actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, known for his television roles including Mr. Eko in LOST, who plays HEAVY DUTY. Also in attendance will be some of the original G.I. JOE creators from the 1960s and 1980s, industry guests, artists and, of course, the Hasbro G.I. JOE brand and design team. Additionally, the first 100 children, 12 years old and younger, through the doors on Saturday morning will be given a free G.I. Joe toy.
“With all of the excitement surrounding the movie, this convention is an event that all G.I. JOE fans should not miss,” said Brian Savage, Director of the G.I. JOE Collectors’ Club. “We invite families, kids, and kids-at-heart from the Kansas City area to join us at the convention on Saturday and Sunday alongside the die-hard G.I. JOE fans who will travel from all over the world to attend.”
The convention is being held at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center located at 2345 McGee Street in Kansas City, Missouri. General admission tickets are available at the door, $12 for adults and $8 for children ages 5-12 (free child’s admission with a paid adult), and is always free for those 4 and under. Hasbro inaugurated the G.I. JOE Collectors’ Convention in 1994 to bring collectors, fans and the G.I. JOE team together to share in the history of the brand. Correction to Part 1: I somehow neglected to remember the movie night is now FRIDAY so keep this in mind as you read and plan.
Part 2 focuses on the rest of the con.
FRIDAY – THE CON STARTS
You might not want to party too hard Thursday night/Friday AM as the next day starts early with the annual parachute drop. I must admit, this year’s 12″ CG Paratrooper looks like a win, which is remarkable considering the horrid streak the club has been on with us 3.75″ collectors. Rest assured Joe fans, if there is ONE thing the club can do without fail is 12″ stuff. In the past you must sign up and sign a waiver to be a volunteer to throw the parachute figures. They have taken us to the top level of an hotel’s atrium/lobby and they have taken us to the top of buildings before. There is no telling where they have picked for us to throw from. It is a fun experience nevertheless. Looking at the GIJCC pics from their ’01 con there, they went to the roof of the hotel and were TETHERED by harnesses anchored by a steel chain. Good Lord, someone had liability concerns!!
