GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Cobra Cyber Ninja

With every image I saw of this guy I grew less and less impressed with him.  A sub-standard rehash of the 25th Anniversary Wraith?  Yeah, no thanks.

Well, color me surprised, once I got the figure in hand.  The tooling works together a lot better than I initially suspected, the new head sculpt is great, and the paint deco is surprisingly effective.  The mixture of dark, thick paint wipes and bright blue piping makes a great impression in person.

IDW G.I. Joe round up… how does the current generation end?

I’ve been shamelessly behind on my IDW G.I. Joe comic reviews, but with the release of Snake Eyes #21 next week, the current generation of G.I. Joe comics ends this chapter and sort of rebrands itself going forward.  With the main title written by Fred Van Lente, Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow being replaced by Special Missions (written by Chuck Dixon) and a shift from Cobra to “The Cobra Files” (still written by Mike Costa) G.I. Joe will be moving in a slightly different direction.

Which, of course, brings up the question… how did the current generation end up?

G.I. Joe and Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow both worked together on the Target: Snake Eyes mini-series while Cobra brought the Russian “Oktober Guard” to the IDW universe.  Click the read the rest of the story link below to review how these ended and how the transition evolves to the “new G.I. Joe” coming soon!

Cobra Special Forces – Do you have what it takes?

We must be back on track for the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film, because suddenly CobraSpecialForces.com and the Cobra Special Forces Facebook group have some content!  Included in this content is what appears to be a brand new recruiting video for the Cobra Special Forces.

Awesome!  We see many different scenes of these Cobra Troopers, in full G.I. Joe: Retaliation accurate uniforms…  I like it.  Check out the embedded video below, and looks like we should keep checking Cobra Special Forces on Facebook for the latest updates!  Thanks to Mysterious Stranger on Twitter for the info!

Preview for IDW Publishing COBRA #21

This Wednesday wraps up the latest iteration of IDW’s Cobra series, set to relaunch next month with “The Cobra Files” starting back at issue #1.  From all accounts the format is remaining consistent with what we’ve been reading for the past several years, but with the renumbering of other titles, they’re doing the same with Cobra.

Check out the preview for issue #21 below.

IDW Solicitations for G.I. Joe titles in April, 2013 – New stuff ahoy!

From the looks of the solicitation list, April is going to be the first gung ho month of the IDW G.I. Joe revamp, with all three titles hitting in that particular month.  Tons of exclusive covers, lots happening in every title.  Not to mention the Hama Real American Hero title is bringing in some very familiar faces.

We get some background into Duke’s history this month, and it occurs to me that this is something that was lacking a bit in the mainstream G.I. Joe title previously.  Sure, we got quite a bit of backstory for the team itself, but do we even really know who these people are?  Why should we care about them?  What are their motivations?  I’m looking forward to seeing a little bit more depth to these characters.  Maybe a smaller cast of characters will help drive that.
