All Games End November 3, 2009 when the Animated DVD is Deployed, Armed with
Filmmaker Interviews, Storyboards and More

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Experience G.I. JOE like never before when the action-packed G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE arrives on DVD for the first time ever November 3, 2009 from Paramount Home Entertainment.  Featuring a more sophisticated animation style and story than prior animation and intended for the adult fan that grew up with the brand in the 80’s, G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE is an intense vision of the raging battle between the G.I. JOE team and the menacing COBRA organization.  The G.I. JOE team is a highly trained, classified special operations unit that officially doesn’t even exist.  This elite team fights a secret war as the first and last line of defense against forces that seek to plunge our world into chaos.

Hasbro developed the bold, state-of-the-art animation with executive producer Sam Register as well as a dynamic creative team including Joaquim Dos Santos, a veteran animation director, who worked closely with award-winning comic writer Warren Ellis, who penned the story. This highly regarded team brings an edgy, intense feel to the animation, which features the most popular characters from the
G.I. JOE vs. COBRA saga such as DUKE, SCARLETT, SNAKE EYES and
COBRA COMMANDER.

The G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE DVD includes illuminating interviews with the filmmakers, storyboards, G.I. JOE files, exclusive bonus footage and a “Now You Know” teaser promo.  The DVD will be available for the approximate retail price of
$19.99 U.S./$22.99 Canada.

The G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE DVD is presented in widescreen with Dolby Digital English 5.1 sound and English, French and Spanish subtitles.  Special features are as follows:

Kick Ass Customs – 12″ G.I. Joe: Resolute (and others)

I’m a little ashamed to admit that I’ve been a monstrous fan of G.I. Joe in pretty much any characterization or scale out there…  except for the one that started it all.  For whatever reason, I just find it hard to get into the whole 12″ figure scene, but that’s not because I don’t like it or have a certain appreciation for it.  Usually it comes down to price or what you get for your buck, and it’s very rare that the 12″ scene gives me a good “go between” there.  The figures are either simplistic, non-detailed, and dull, or they are overly exagerrated, insanely detailed, yet priced way out of my affordable range.  There doesn’t seem to be anything in between.  Some of the Spy Troops and Valor Vs. Venom stuff gave us the best of both worlds, in my opinion…a reasonable price range, yet still enough bang for the buck, but recent releases have just been dull and uninspired, especially for the recently elevated price tags, even on basic retail shelves.

The Sideshow Collectibles stuff is out of this world, of course.  It’s simply fantastic.  However, the $100 – $120 price tag per figure doesn’t fit my somewhat limited Joe budget.  So, it always amazes me when I run across 12″ enthusiasts who actually accumulate enough fodder to do some crazy customs.  And I’ll tell you, the customs don’t get much crazier than a member of the One Sixth Warrior forum, gaiagear.  I’ve seen my fair share of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero themed 12″ customs, but gaiagear tackles something near and dear to my heart, G.I. Joe: Resolute.  There aren’t really enough words I can type in this post that express just how insane these customs are.  They are truly works of art and things of beauty.  In fact, pretty much every custom that gaiagear has done affiliated with the G.I. Joe universe really blows me away…but it’s really just the tip of the iceberg.  Check out a small sampling of gaiagear’s incredible work below, all found on the One Sixth Warrior Forums.  The gallery below features incredible versions of the following characters:

Crazy stuff.  But the craziest thing is this is just the beginning.  There are a wealth of insanely talented 12″ customizers on the One Sixth Warrior forums, and there is some equally insane Real American Hero styled customs over there.  Check out this thread for some of them.  While I don’t have the budget or the real incentive to dive headlong into the 12″ scale, I can certainly appreciate the work that goes into these customs.  Some awesome stuff here, I think fans of any scale will really dig ’em.

In preparation for the upcoming Resolute 7-Packs – What Resolute toys didn’t we get?

I’ve seen a few folks ask in the comments section for yesterday’s Resolute boxed set news which figures were the Resolute themed figures that we didn’t get, and wondering what we should expect in the boxed sets to come in 2010.  This is what I’ve cobbled together so far:

Resolute styled figures we didn’t get

  1. Baroness
  2. Destro
  3. Roadblock
  4. Scarlett
  5. Storm Shadow

These would have mostly come in single packs from what I can gather, in various waves from Wave 14 – 15 or 16.

Resolute Marketed figures we didn’t get

  • Arctic COBRA Commander (Comic Pack)
  • Arctic Scarlett (Comic Pack)
  • Training Snake Eyes (Comic Pack)
  • Scuba Duke (Comic Pack – but rehashed as Wet Suit)
  • Crimson Trooper (Comic Pack)
  • Iron Klaw Trooper (Comic Pack)

I think that about covers it.  But keep in mind, I honestly don’t believe we’ll get the above figures in any sort of Resolute boxed set.  I think Hasbro will focus on the figures that really resemble the Resolute “look”, and will also give us some nice “Franken Joes” that use existing tooling, but are mixed and matched to get us some Resolute styled stuff in the boxed sets.

If they made the following packs, I would be on Cloud 9:

G.I. Joe 7-Pack

  1. Roadblock
  2. Scarlett
  3. Flint
  4. Beachhead
  5. Shipwreck
  6. Stalker (sort of wishful thinking, not sure we’d get a new head out of this)
  7. Ripcord

COBRA 7-Pack

  1. Destro
  2. Baroness
  3. Storm Shadow
  4. Zartan
  5. Firefly
  6. Alley-Viper
  7. Arctic  Cobra Commander

Honestly, I think a lot of these are possible.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Joe lineup like it is above, depending on what new tooling they’re willing to invest in.  The above is pretty much a perfect scenario for me, but honestly, I think it is possible.  Whatever we get, I’m certain we’ll see Roadblock, Scarlett, Destro, Baroness, and Storm Shadow, and all five of those figures are fantastic, so no matter what, this is gonna be a winner.

Some info revealed on the upcoming Resolute boxed sets

With the upcoming release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, various events are going on in Hollywood to celebrate the release of not only Rise of Cobra, but also Transformers 2 and Star Trek on DVD and Blu-Ray.  GeneralsJoes contributor Mysterious Stranger was fortunate to catch up with some Hasbro representatives and has brought us some great intel on the upcoming Resolute items, due to be released in Fall, 2010!  These sets are still very early in the production phase, so all details are subject to change, but this is what we now know:

  • Expect 2 7-Packs, similar to the COBRA Island releases earlier this year, one G.I. Joe and one COBRA.
  • Online Exclusives
  • Every figure we’ve seen to date in pre-production form will be featured
  • Because we haven’t seen enough figures to round off two 7-packs, we can fully expect a larger cast of characters utilizing existing tooling in Resolute decos as well as repaints or reissues of previously released Resolute figures.

Of course, time will tell how this actually ends up, but from the early sounds of it, we’ve got some great Resolute stuff to look forward to next year!  I can’t wait to hear more.  Big thanks to Mysterious Stranger for the intel.

Target Rescue Mission 4-Pack available on Target.com

For folks like me who don’t have a local Target, yet really want to pick up the Rescue Mission 4-Pack (with spandex Duke, City Strike Snake Eyes in black, and two naval Neo-Vipers), you now have your chance at Target.com.

But for those of you who do have Targets nearby, and you want to know if your local store has these in stock, there’s an inventory checker as well, that will help you quickly scan those local stores and see if they have what you’re looking for.

Rise of COBRA Wave 5 found at retail! Check K-Mar–… wait… what?

Yes, you read that right.  Possibly the black hole of new toys, K-Mart has scored a nice little coup, apparently being the first brick and mortar retailer to showcase Wave 5 of G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA.  Featuring very cool new renditions of Duke and Ripcord, as well as the best 3 3/4″ piece of plastic ever experienced in human existence, City Strike Snake Eyes.

Findings have been reported on HissTank.com, and I’ve mirrored images below.  Go get ’em!
