First look at G.I. Joe: Resolute Menus, Special Features

It appeared on the surface that both G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Resolute were a little sparse on the special features, and unfortunately, now that I’ve seen both first hand, that appears to be the truth.  While the DVD cover of G.I. Joe: Resolute advertises “Exclusive Missing Footage”, I can find nothing in the Special Features that cooberates that.  Granted, I haven’t watched the actual DVD yet.  All I can think that they’re referring to is the SDCC and JoeCon promo footage.  The five minute footage of Snake Eyes slicing and dicing the COBRA Troopers that everyone has seen at this point, either first hand, or from Titmouse’s website (and shortly thereafter, on YouTube courtesy of your’s truly).  So, really, this “Missing Footage” isn’t really missing.

But again, I haven’t watched the movie itself, I just know that generally that stuff isn’t woven seamlessly into the film, it’s normally on the Special Extras menu.  I’ll be checking it out soon enough and will give a full report.

Until then, though, I did get some images taken of the Resolute menu interface as well as some of the “Joe Files” that the DVD offers.  They are much more in depth than the images I’m posting below, consider them a “teaser” of sorts.  😉

A sneak peek at the Amazon exclusive Iron Klaw/Crimson Trooper comic

Many Joefans likely flocked to Amazon.com to pre-order G.I. Joe: Resolute so they could check out the exclusive unreleased Resolute comic that was available for download with the purchase.  GeneralsJoes was among that crowd, and I’m posting a little sneak peek at some of the panels in the comic.  I was really pleasently surprised at the book, to be honest…it was written very crisply, with a lot more adult-oriented action than some of the previous releases.  The coolest thing is, it gives some insight into the Iron Klaw Troopers and Crimson Troopers.  By looking at the panels in the book, it would appear that the Iron Klaw Troopers are meant to be the “cream of the crop” of Cobra troops, even above the esteemed elite Crimson Guard.  Heavily utilizing the Iron Klaw look from G.I. Joe: Extreme, they actually mesh into the Cobra hierarchy very well.

As for the Crimson Troopers…at first they appear to simply be offshoots of the Crimson Guard, but at one point, the Iron Klaw Trooper hands one of them a tactical vest, updated helmet, and parachute which almost look to have a strong Resolute Trooper influence.  Actually, in one of the panels, the Crimson Trooper looks like it was probably a Resolute Trooper from the neck down with a cool newly sculpted helmet for the head.

Frankly…this is a big bummer, considering this never got released.  This could have been a great Resolute Crimson Guard, and I am a humongous fan of the Resolute Trooper tooling.  The comic issue shows the Crimson Troopers going through a rigorous  training exercise designed to weed out the ineffective and incapable.  At the end, one Crimson Trooper remains and we get a glimpse of just how intense Cobra’s training program is.  A pretty cool shift, and unlike many of the other Resolute comics, this one actually seems like it could mesh into the Resolute universe fairly well.  Check out the mirrored images below.

November 3rd, 2009 – Best G.I. Joe DVD day EVAH!

What a great feeling…just got back from Wal-Mart where I scooped up my brand spankin’ new copies of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on Blu-Ray as well as G.I. Joe: Resolute on DVD.  RoC is on sale right now for $19.96 while Resolute retailed for a super-reasonable $13.00!  Of course, it just figures that I have to come in to the office late night tonight to work on a server project…dammit.

Still, at some point this week, I’m going to be in G.I. Joe movie heaven, and being able to watch both these films at any time is a great feeling.

Just make sure to keep watching GeneralsJoes over the next few days, I plan to have some reviews, coverage, screenshots, and lots of cool bells and whistles on these recently released DVD’s.  Whether or not you liked The Rise of Cobra, I don’t think anyone will debate that 2009 was one of the biggest years for G.I. Joe since the 80’s.  It’s been an awesome ride.

See the Iron Klaw Trooper in action – buy G.I. Joe: Resolute at Amazon!

Folks were fairly bummed about the cancellation of the Resolute themed comic packs that were slated to hit earlier this year before things went up in smoke, but  various retailers like Amazon.com and Walmart.com have made the comics available through exclusive download programs.

Well, Amazon.com is at it again, with a great deal for G.I. Joe fans.  Pre-Order G.I. Joe: Resolute from Amazon.com and you get a download code for yet another digital copy of one of the cancelled comic pack Comics, this time featuring Iron Klaw Trooper vs. Crimson Trooper!  Not only that, but Resolute is cheap at Amazon as well, coming in at just $13.99.

Check out some images below of the DVD box art as well as two preview pages from the digital comic.

Awesome G.I. Joe: Resolute storyboards posted on i09.com

On the eve of the G.I. Joe: Resolute DVD, the internet geek world is abuzz…interestingly, everyone seems much more abuzz over the release of Resolute than they are The Rise of Cobra, which is a feeling I can certainly understand.  While Resolute had it’s own faults that often go overlooked, from a pure “look” and “feel” perspective, it captured the spirit of G.I. Joe far more effectively than The Rise of Cobra did, in my opinion, even though I found both enormously entertaining.

Some of the more popular geek destinations online have been raving about Resolute all along, including i09.com, which has picked now to reveal a healthy collection of storyboard images pulled from G.I. Joe: Resolute.  I’ve shown some other storyboards gleened from DeviantArt in the past, but these are all new to me, and all awesome.

Almost makes me sad looking at this stuff.  I know I haven’t been shy in expressing my love for The Rise of Cobra, but while RoC was a fun action movie that had some neat G.I. Joe elements (at least in my opinion), Resolute was pure G.I. Joe, through and through.  I think if Resolute was given the full blown series or motion picture treatment, it could be amazing, but shoe-horned into that funky format, I think it ended up suffering a bit for it.  Still, I love it, and will always love the look and the designs of the characters and figures.  Don’t forget to hit up the Resolute Animation SuperPage to get your fill of anything and everything G.I. Joe: Resolute.
