As we near the halfway mark for the “40 Reasons” event Twitziller continues to bring up some fantastic points and great reasons to look forward to the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film. The latest one goes beyond simply G.I. Joe and could certainly be applied to many Hollywood features today.

Twitziller did bring up the topic of Practical Effects with Reason #30, but I think it’s important to note that there is certainly a place for visual effects and CGI in the film as well, as long as there is balance. As I discussed in that post, there seemed to be some issues with balance during the Paris Pursuit scene in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra where the fully CGI characters looked a little artificial and overdone. However, there was a sequence in that same film where Storm Shadow jumped from a window and grabbed onto the Cobra Gunship that looked extremely cool because there was the right balance of visual effects and practical effects.
There are obviously elements of strong CGI throughout G.I. Joe: Retaliation, specifically in the Ninja Mountain Battle scene, but the trick is to layer it and balance it with realism, and Twitziller is right on the money. From what we’ve seen so far in footage, that’s being done quite well.
A big thanks to Twitziller keeping this going on Twitter, and hit GeneralsJoes to keep up to date as well. Previous entries are below.
Some of you folks might have heard of Operation: Paperback which is a great non-profit organization that promises to provide gently used books to our troops overseas as a way to thank them for their service and help occupy some of their down time with entertaining distractions.
Well, the Cobra 1st Legion, a G.I. Joe-themed cosplay/charity group is supporting this great organization with their own “Operation Scales to Tales 2”! They’ve got a post up on Facebook with all of the information, I strongly recommend you guys check it out and do what you can do to help them out. They do some excellent G.I. Joe cosplaying, and kudos to them for this endeavor.
Evidently Palicki is making the rounds. Shortly after appearing on The Couch this week, she was also interviewed by EW.com and much of the conversation (as you might expect) was focused around G.I. Joe: Retaliation. She spoke of training with real Navy SEALs, of Lady Jaye’s “chip on her shoulder” and also revealed a little bit about the reshoots:
“A lot of that was false: We did like two days of reshoots. They added one scene. It wasn’t really a big deal — it was like the normal reshooting situation. Actually we lucked out because it was only two days. But I think it adds to the film completely.”
It’s a short interview, but worth a read. Check it out at EW.com.
I remember like it was yesterday… the frantic post-G.I. Joe: Retaliation meltdown where everyone was convinced G.I. Joe was dead, the Dollar General exclusives were getting recalled, truly Deth of teh line!11! Here we are a little less than a year later with a good chunk of pretty cool product to look forward to. Included in that product is the “running change” versions of the aforementioned Dollar General figures. So far being spotted in places like Marshall’s and TJ Maxx, these figures promise to be a bit more available than the previous ones.
I was able to get my hands on Snake Eyes, and you can either check out the review on my 30th Anniversary Review Page or the direct link below.
We’ve seen characters, troopers, technology, and film production methodology discussed throughout this process so far…what could Twitziller possibly talk about next?

How’s that cholesterol? With a property so thickly dripping from 80’s nostalgia, it seems only appropriate to include a vehicle that does the same. All you need is a flatbed and Bruce Willis, and you can do anything! Keep following Twitziller on Twitter for the latest on this, or keep hitting up GeneralsJoes. Previous entries are below.
Paramount International’s YouTube page has just posted an official featurette from the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film. It focuses on Storm Shadow and showcases a wealth of new scenes, new footage, and some incredible behind the scenes interviews with Lee Byung-Hun, Ray Park, Jon Chu, and Lorenzo DiBonaventura. For folks who are all wound up about G.I. Joe: Retaliation like I am, this was two minutes and fourteen seconds of bliss. So cool.
Check out the video embedded below. I’m gonna go back and watch it again!
