Here it is, Joe fans! I think it’s fair to assume the character that most of us have been really excited to see in G.I. Joe: Retaliation is Cobra Commander. He’s such a central character to the entire scope of the franchise, and seemed so mishandled in the Rise of Cobra, many of us have really been dying to see what G.I. Joe: Retaliation would do for him
If this short video is any indication, I think we’ll be pretty damn pleased. We see Cobra Commander running, gunning, and looking generally bad ass. We see his personal helicopter taking off, and we get some confirmation that yes, indeed, Cobra Commander is the mysterious guy in the white uniform near the chambers that Storm Shadow breaks into.
Seems weird that the mute ninja commando would end up being the last character vignette that Paramount posted from the G.I. Joe roster, but maybe they were just saving the best for last. There is some decent smatterings of new footage peppered throughout the short clip below. Check it out!
A couple of folks had questions about certain elements of the two reviews I mentioned above, so I took a couple extra pictures to show case some things. People were inquiring about the look of Breaker using Duke’s body, so I whipped something up really quickly. I did the best I could without cutting off his belt. I also did a comparison image with recent Cobra Troopers that folks had been asking for.
Check out the two reviews to see the images at the links below, or the images are also mirrored in this story:
Talk about opposite sides of the spectrum! I spent the last few days reviewing $6.00 discount store figures, and now I’m jumping to a high-end 12″ collectible item. Just goes to show you how many different markets G.I. Joe is hitting this year.
I’ve dabbled in the Sideshow Collectibles line a bit over the past couple of years, and with Hot Toys releasing some stunning looking G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures this year I thought I’d revisit the 12″ scale and get my perceptions in line before those become available. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well this particular rendition of the ninja commando turned out. Check out my Sideshow Collectibles Review Section or the direct link below. Many folks in the Twittersphere last night were letting me know that there was some exclusive footage shown on WWE Raw last night in promotion of G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Thankfully, YouTube user djdmac24 was ready, willing, and able to capture this video and post it up on YouTube.
A lot of the footage is stuff we’ve seen before, but there are some great behind-the-scenes clips and some additional Cobra Commander and Water Moccasin shots.
Doomsun sends word to me that he has posted an interview of former Hasbro artist Andrei Koribanics on his site Leaky Suit Brigade. Mr. Koribanics was apparently an artist who worked alongside Ron Rudat and Bill Merklein back in the heyday of G.I. Joe production, from 1983 – 1985.
He’s got some very cool stories to tell and it’s always awesome to hear from some of the architects of your childhood.
Check out the interview over on the Leaky Suit Brigade and thanks to Doomsun for the information.
