A few days ago we reported that a group of revealed repaints were being reported as parts of Toys “R” Us 3-Packs, and we now have further elaboration on that. Apparently these are part of some new “Senior Ranking Officer” packs, and an image of these appears over on The Terror Drome. I’ve also mirrored the image below.
Bad Sociologist over on HissTank.com reports that his Toys “R” Us received a nice assortment of stock for the upcoming Rise of COBRA toyline, but when he scanned the UPC, it reported that the items couldn’t be sold until July 4th. We’d previously heard dates of July 11th and July 6th, and other Toys “R” Us assortments had reported July 10th, so at this point, it’s somewhat tough to tell exactly what the solid street date is. I personally think a July 4th date would be great as a tie in to Independence Day… whatever the actual date is, early July is just around the corner, so buckle your seat belts!
Another nice tidbit of information that was provided in that thread on HissTank was a rundown of the case assortment. I’ve reposted that below.
Licensing.biz reports that Titan Books is planning to release a companion book to the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA film entitled G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Mission Dossier. According to the article:
“The paperback companion chronicles the making of the movie, combining cast and crew commentary with in-universe intel on GI Joe team members and their enemies in the Cobra organization.
Information on weapons, gadgets, vehicles and missions is also included, along with numerous colour photos, film stills, schematics and production art.”
The book will arrive in the United States July 21st just ahead of the movie. Read the entire article here.
A few different images of carded and boxed items from the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA line have started popping up over at the TerrorDrome and HissTank.com. So far we have an Arctic Assault Snake Eyes, a COBRA Para-Viper repaint, and the Dragonhawk XH1 w/ Wild Bill! I’m a bit disappointed that the Para-Viper is a single card, normal release, I was kind of hoping that would fall under an exclusive umbrella somewhere, but we’ll see. They can’t all be winners, I guess. 😉
Don’t get me wrong, the Para-Viper is a very nice looking figure, he just can’t really do anything besides stand there, and I’m not real sure how well his style meshes with the normal movie stuff. Anyway, the images are hosted below.
Beginning in July, IDW will be putting out a four-issue adaptation of G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA, with each of the four issues hitting each week. Phil from JoeReloaded has kindly posted a 5-page preview of the first installment, which is up on JoeReloaded. We’ve also hosted it below.
Movie webside Collider.com has posted a video interview with G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA producer Lorenzo di Bonventura, which includes a few details about the film (though admittedly, not many). The one specific revelation is that the film clocks in at 1 hour and 47 minutes.
