IDW G.I. Joe Comic Solicitations for April, 2010

Below are the Solicitations for IDW G.I. Joe related comics for April, 2010.  Click the “Read the Rest of this Entry” link below for the full lowdown, and a big thanks to The Terror Drome for gathering all of this information together.  Gotta say, the “Operation: HISS” comic is looking pretty intriguing.  My feelings on the Rise of Cobra universe continue to eb and flow, but it’s cool to see the story expanded in comic form, and it sounds like it may tie into the new web-based animated series as well.  Looking forward to it.

IDW 5-Page Previews for G.I. Joe #14 and Origins #11

It must be new comics day coming up, because we’ve got 5-page previews of upcoming issues of G.I. Joe #14 as well as G.I. Joe: Origins #11.  Both issues prove to be interesting additions to the continuity with the first appearance of the Hard Master and a focus on Beachhead’s memory loss…hopefully filling in some of the blanks.
Check out the 5-page previews below!

IDW's G.I. Joe: Cobra wins award for excellence from MTV.com

When I received and reviewed an advanced copy of IDW’s G.I. Joe: Cobra Special, I knew it was… well… special.  Apparently I’m not alone.
MTV’s SplashPage has revealed their year end “Best Of” awards, and the G.I. Joe: Cobra Special received an award for excellence for “Best One-Shot Special”.  Here is what MTV had to say about the comic:

“Licensed properties tend to fly under the radar for most readers who aren’t a fan of the relevant property, but those who missed out on this issue overlooked a real gem. Writer Mike Costa scripts a story about the villainous twin brothers Tomax and Xamot Paoli that explores the dichotomy of the characters with a unique twist: the tale is is divided into two parts, with one offering Tomax’s take on a shared experience, and the other offering Xamot’s considerably different perspective on the same. The story is structured so that the book begins and ends with a similar set of scenes, tweaked slightly to indicate the characters’ diverging points of view, and their two stories meet (and diverge) in a common scene halfway through the issue. The issue is one of the year’s best not just because of the story itself, but because of the brilliant style in which the story’s presented.”

Great to see G.I. Joe getting some credit out there, especially the absolutely fantastic work that went into the G.I. Joe: Cobra Special.  It really was an impressive issue that was actually more successful (in my opinion) than the Watchmen issue that inspired it.  Thanks to YoJoe for the heads up!

IDW Cobra Commander revealed on JoeReloaded?

Perhaps it is…  Phil Kost from JoeReloaded.com has passed the word along that he’s working in conjunction with IDW on a little “Guess the Character” thread with some great looking concept art for a never seen before character (in the new IDW universe, anyway).  It seems to pretty obviously be Cobra Commander, though with a very different look.

The full art can be found over on JoeReloaded.  Not sure of my thoughts on this one.  I like that they carry over the mirrored helmet.  I like the fangs and the lower support, but it almost seems too “bald” up top.  That 3-piece suit is a bit of a strange choice, too, but we’ll see what scenario he makes his appearence in, perhaps it’ll make more sense.  I’m sure he’ll have more than one “look” as well.
Thanks to Phil for the heads up!

The top 10 G.I. Joe Events of the decade

In real life world, 10 years sometimes can go by in a flash…although a lot has changed for me personally since 2000, it still seems like it just flew by.  I’ve gained a wife, 2 children, moved back to my hometown, gone through two different jobs, lost 125 pounds, and completely changed my career path and overall life philosophy.  Yet, it still kinda feels like yesterday.

In G.I. Joe world, however, the past 10 years might as well have been 5 separate lifetimes.  It’s been a roller coaster ride for certain since the 2000’s began, and this decade has been absolutely loaded with G.I. Joe related events.  So what are the ten most important events of the past 10 years?  Here they are, in my opinion (below the jump):
