Taking a bit of a break from the great “Rise of COBRA” debate, the Terror Drome has found some images that I think almost everyone can agree on… these are some great images of some fantastic looking toys. I’ve seen lots of complaints lately about Hasbro’s distribution and marketing philosophy, but anyone at all who has any doubt whether or not Hasbro listens to the fans or has our best interests at heart just needs to look at these two 7-packs.
Hasbro did NOT need to do these. The retailers are full steam ahead with the movie…Hasbro is full steam ahead with the movie… yet, purely as a bone for collectors, they put together 14 figures that are, by and large, tops on many collector lists. Not only did they put them out, but they did some beautiful work. Yes, there’s a lot of existing tooling, but done in such creative ways that it almost doesn’t matter. These figures are looking great. What a fantastic send off to the Anniversary line as the property moves forward.
Check out the Terror Drome story here, or just sit and gaze at the images below.
A short while ago, a COBRA themed Wal-Mart exclusive pack was spotted on an Asian auction site, and GeneralsJoes reported on it here. Well, now the Terror Drome is reporting that another set has been uncovered, this time it’s a G.I. Joe one featuring Stalker, Snake Eyes, Duke, Beachhead, and Wild Bill. Whether or not it will ever see release is still up in the air, but it’s cool to check it out regardless. The image is posted below.
More images have started appearing on various sites for some better pictures of upcoming figures as well as pictures of figures we have not yet heard about. Some very neat stuff in here, even though a lot of it is repaint-city. The higlights of this newest batch of images are:
Pilot Scarlett repaint/retool in UK themed “Quarrel” colors
Wet Down, a Torpedo base figure using the helmet/mask from the ROC Flash
A Neo-Viper in a more silver paint scheme
There are other various newer images of stuff we’ve seen as well. Original source of the info is HissTank.com, check out the images below.
Anyone who hasn’t checked out the Last Best Angry Man Toy Review blog is really missing out on not only some great insight, but some humor along with it. The guy behind the site (who goes by Irid70 on HissTank and the Terror Drome) has wrapped his meathooks around one of the upcoming Alley-Viper figures from the Defense of COBRA Island 7-Pack and posted his review here. Some very nice images of a figure that looks to be a sure-fire winner.
Us long time fans of the vintage figures have had few reasons to cheer lately, with news of the Convention exclusive figures being Anniversary style… I’m not in such a bad spot, since I do enjoy the Anniversary and Movie stuff as well, but there are o-ring diehards out there crying in their beer. Well, the tears can stop, at least for a little while, because the Collectors’ Club exclusive 2009 incentive figure Undertow has started shipping! I received mine today, and was so enamored that I immediately had to post a review.
Some HissTank forum members, General Hawk59 and Steel Brigade have posted some new reviews of upcoming product (or potentially items that will not end up seeing release). There are a ton of images and some nice detailed writing about each of these items.
The Night Raven review can be found here, and I’ve mirrored a couple of pictures below…a lot more are posted at the previous link. Red Star and Scrap Iron are posted here, also with a small sample of images below. Red Star and Scrap Iron were slated for future single pack release, but got canned before they hit…will these updated versions appear somewhere down the line? No one knows for sure… one thing I do know is that they both feature a very nice set of changes that make them unique from their previous counterparts, and very reminiscent of the vintage versions as well.
