It must be Friday afternoon, and the poor guys with Hasbro’s PR agency are now shipping out the answers to our burning G.I. Joe questions… here are GeneralsJoes two answered questions:
Q: The fandom seems pretty excited about the upcoming G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series, however it’s curious that the cartoon is starting this fall, with the toys not coming until the fall of 2011. Why is there this large gap, and what challenges does it provide producing a toyline based on an animated series nearly 10 months after it airs?
A: The timeframes for producing an animated series and a complete toy line are very different. In order for the Hasbro Design team to produce figures with accurate likenesses the character art and color palette needs to be final.
Q: Speaking of G.I. Joe: Renegades, with the series debuting in October, when can the public expect to start seeing some animated models or video? Is it possible we’ll see something at SDCC?
A: It is too early to comment on this but we hope to see you at SDCC!

Yes, you read that right! GeneralsJoes can now be known as slightlylargerimagesofrenegadesduke.com…I’ve decided to devote all of the resources of the site to just finding images of Renegades Duke that are just a little bit bigger than the image I posted before. Fun, eh?
In all seriousness, I was able to dig up an actual full size image of Duke in the upcoming G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series. Imagine that? Click the picture below for a full size image.

Now, there are a lot of cool things I see about this image.
- Natural Proportions. Granted, there is a slightly animated style to the character, but all in all, he’s got realistic proportions and a very natural look.
- The colors. Often the fandom’s main complaints center around the character’s appearance in the film or series. Well, even though they’ve revamped the style a bit, Duke still has the tan shirt and green pants the fans have known him for.
- The gun. That’s one bad ass looking futuristic pistol.
As if you couldn’t tell, I’m getting excited for G.I. Joe: Renegades, and hoping things are heading on the right track. Time will tell, but at least now we’ve got a slightly better look at the first piece of concept art from the series.

I’d mirrored the image from MediaWeek.com yesterday of Duke in the upcoming Renegades cartoon. Well, upon combing through The Hub website, I found a slightly larger image, and it’s mirrored below.
Not a whole lot more detail, but every little bit helps, I suppose.

Considering October is fast approaching, I was starting to wonder a bit about when we’d start hearing more official news about the Hub in general, and G.I. Joe: Renegades specifically. Turns out that time is now.
During an advertiser upfront, the Hub officially announced their initial slate of animated programming, including G.I. Joe: Renegades, and MediaWeek.com even debuted a shot of Duke that we all saw at the Convention in Providence 2 weeks ago. A pity it’s so small.
Information about G.I. Joe: Renegades is as follows:
“G.I. Joe Renegades” (Hub Original Series)
This action-packed animated series goes back to basics with the origins of G.I. JOE, the world’s most elite fighting force, and their evil nemesis, the Cobra organization. Witness the emergence of the heroic G.I. JOE team as a cadre of highly-trained specialists who are forced to band together to prevent the nefarious forces of Cobra from achieving global domination. Produced by Hasbro Studios.”
Current hypothesis is that Cobra is a large, worldwide organization, and the G.I. Joe team is on the run. Promising lots of cameos, adult-themed plots and action, G.I. Joe: Renegades could potentially be the animated series that the fans have been waiting for, which will please us, but also be approachable to the kids.
The Hub is slated to launch October 10th, 2010, and one would imagine G.I. Joe: Renegades would launch alongside the channel’s debut. For a full transcript of the Press Release with all of the gory details click the “Read the rest of this entry” link below, or find it right here.

Saturday is when the fun really began! As cool as the initial releases for G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra were, they simply could NOT compare to the boundless wonder of 4″ plastic that would be unveiled on Saturday.
It still astounds me that this level of detail, articulation, and design can be so well implemented in such a small scale. Mattel and Playmates need to start taking notes. They’re not even in the same league as Hasbro in this scale.
The first excitement of the day was the Hasbro Seminar where they revealed the 2011 lineup for G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra! Images and my personal thoughts are below, after clicking the “Read the rest of this entry” link.

Okay, I’m officially back home from the Convention, but obviously spent the night with the family. Got some school work to catch up on, then will try to play some catch up over the next few days. I think I covered most of the new stuff at the Con, but I definitely want to talk about the Collectors’ Club round table, give more specific details about the Pursuit of Cobra figures, and I should probably get the PoC SuperPage revamp started. 😉
For anyone who frequented the page during the Con rampage, thank you very much. I know I wasn’t all that current with the news and info as it happened, but a guy’s gotta have some fun at the Con, too. And I did. But we’ll leave all those gory details out of the web articles, I should think.
A few guys out there will know what I’m talking about. 😉
Thanks again to all the readers for making GeneralsJoes their “home”. A lot of folks came up to me at the Con and expressed their thanks, appreciation, and let me know what they thought of the site, and for that I’m infinitely appreciative. I’ll continue to try my hardest to make GJ worth your while. I may not have the latest news up the second it breaks, but I’ll try to get as much info as possible, and put my own “fanboy” slant on it.
The rest of 2010 and into 2011 looks absolutely amazing from a Pursuit of Cobra perspective. Where we go from there with G.I. Joe: Renegades is anyone’s guess, and it makes me a bit nervous, but regardless, G.I. Joe ain’t going anywhere any time soon.
