How fitting as we prepare to launch into March Madness, the “Sweet 16” ends up being how many days we now have left until G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and today marks the 16th reason why the film will rock. Twitziller continues on a roll today and puts his crosshairs firmly on a central Cobra character!
#16:
Firefly is one of those characters that appeals to a lot of people. At one time considered the “Boba Fett” of the G.I. Joe universe, he was a highly paid and capable freelancer who was a man of sheer mystery. A consummate professional who did his job, then slunk back to the shadows, his early history revealed him to be someone dangerously protective about his identity. Over time, he lost some of his air of mystery, revealed to be a member of the Arashikage clan, much to the Joe fandom’s dismay. In G.I. Joe: Retaliation he has a chance to rebuild some of the rich character elements that so many fans latched on to.
Obviously he has spent a lot of time throughout the trailers completely unmasked, so he doesn’t appear quite so protective of his face, but his personality has also shone through in a big way. Discarding urban camouflage for what looks to be an Alligator skin coat, this bayou operative brings the term “swampfighter” to a whole new level. As Twitziller says, it’s these individuals who really make up the essence of Cobra’s dynamic. I’m looking forward to seeing how Firefly evolves throughout this film.
Here it is, Joe fans! I think it’s fair to assume the character that most of us have been really excited to see in G.I. Joe: Retaliation is Cobra Commander. He’s such a central character to the entire scope of the franchise, and seemed so mishandled in the Rise of Cobra, many of us have really been dying to see what G.I. Joe: Retaliation would do for him
If this short video is any indication, I think we’ll be pretty damn pleased. We see Cobra Commander running, gunning, and looking generally bad ass. We see his personal helicopter taking off, and we get some confirmation that yes, indeed, Cobra Commander is the mysterious guy in the white uniform near the chambers that Storm Shadow breaks into.
Seems weird that the mute ninja commando would end up being the last character vignette that Paramount posted from the G.I. Joe roster, but maybe they were just saving the best for last. There is some decent smatterings of new footage peppered throughout the short clip below. Check it out!
Many folks in the Twittersphere last night were letting me know that there was some exclusive footage shown on WWE Raw last night in promotion of G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Thankfully, YouTube user djdmac24 was ready, willing, and able to capture this video and post it up on YouTube.
A lot of the footage is stuff we’ve seen before, but there are some great behind-the-scenes clips and some additional Cobra Commander and Water Moccasin shots.
This comes to me from a reported former designer at one of Paramount’s art agencies…thanks to him for forwarding this along! He’s not entirely sure what the purpose of this poster was, but it was some sort of promotional artwork. I know we’ve been seeing a lot of the photo-realistic posters, but this one is pretty unique and interesting with a real artistic flair.

Collider.com has scored some exclusive images from G.I. Joe: Retaliation featuring Snake Eyes, Flint, Jinx, Roadblock, Duke, and Joe Colton. The images look to take place throughout various parts of the film, with the Joes in varying states of distress.

I know we’ve seen the Colton and shirtless Flint ones before, but the image of the four characters walking through fire is definitely a new one. If you look at Roadblock, too, it looks as if he’s holding that suitcase launching system that Firefly and Zartan have been using in so many of the TV Spots and trailers.
