Now obviously take a lot of this info with a grain of salt as we don’t know how the film delay will impact any of this, especially the film oriented stuff. It goes without saying that the Blu-Ray release date is invalid now, but I’m still a bit curious about all of the movie logo clothing.
Thanks to SNAKE EYES for sending these images and details along…I got them just before the big Retaliation news hit, so I’ve been a bit late in posting them. Check out the details from the catalog below along with the image gallery.

I promise I’m not regurgitating every single post that goes up around the web talking about this subject, but I think Billy the Kidd over on Aint it Cool News has some great insight, information, and perspective on the whole G.I. Joe: Retaliation fiasco. Granted he just looks at it from the film perspective, and not as a fan of the toys, but a lot of what he has to say mirrors my own thoughts, and he seems to also have a line on some early screener feedback, which turns out wasn’t trending very positively.
Check out this post on AICN for all of the details.

You ever have one of those days? Yeah, I think pretty much the entire G.I. Joe fandom yesterday had one of those days. When I got the text message from Gary last night about possibly recording a special edition, I’ll admit, I was hesitant, as I think he was, too. We both felt like we’d been kicked in the nards, and I don’t think either one of us was much in the mood to talk about it.
But then Twitter came to the rescue… the Tweets, emails, PM’s, and text messages started flooding in…Joe fans who wanted to talk it out. Admins of websites who wanted to talk about this. Wanted an immediate reaction. So, we decided what the hell. Gathering together a veritable “who’s who” of site administrators, G.I. Joe fans, elitists podcasters, and even some industry professionals, we took to Skype and gave it to you raw.
Full credit goes to Gary Godsoe who burned the midnight oil, spending hours after we were done recording getting the audio processed and online, pretty much raw and unedited. I will admit…it was cathartic. It was a huge help to me in figuring out where Paramount was coming from and what we should look towards moving forward to March, 2013, and I want to personally thank everyone who joined us.
Now, don’t think this is the end! We are taking your voice mail messages as well in preparation for our normal recording next week. We want to hear from YOU. Let your voices be heard concerning yesterday’s movie news. For our next episode we are going to feature YOUR voicemails. All you have to do is call in and share your thoughts. Please AT LEAST tell us your first name and PLEASE keep your messages no worse than a PG-13 rating. We reserve the right not to air any hostile or vulgar messages. (262) 515-9656
As of the recording last night we had already received almost two dozen voicemails, and obviously we can’t play them all, but we will choose some best of the best and share your raw emotion as we discuss what this means for the brand. No worries, this is a story we will be talking about for a long, long time. As usual, you can hit up our Podbean page to check out last night’s special edition, or check out the embedded player below. Some brief show notes as always after the jump.

Obviously the big news for the day is the revelation that G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been quickly and suddenly delayed from June 29, 2012 to March 29, 2013. The reason we’ve been given for this date is that they want to convert the film to 3D.
Is that the real and true reason?
There seems to be some conflict online throughout the fandom about what this really means and what the potential impact might be. Is this a terrible by move by Paramount? Could there be any redeeming value to this choice? Please click the Read the Rest of this Story link below to get my thoughts on this, with 12 hours to think it over.

As G.I. Joe fans, we’ve been conditioned to think the sky is falling simply because for the past several years it seems like it’s been an immense struggle for the brand just to gain traction. But it’s very interesting to note some other films that have suffered a similar fate as the G.I. Joe sequel, and some of the names are big ones.
Films like Shutter Island and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince have been victimized by this same thing, and have gone on to be industry successes. But obviously a film like G.I. Joe: Retaliation doesn’t quite have the pedigree of those two films, with big names like Leonardo DiCaprio or Martin Scorcese attached, not to mention the billion dollar behemoth that is the Harry Potter franchise.
E! Online has analyzed five films that have suffered similar fates, and some of the results may surprise you. Check out the full article right here.

As we’re all waking up a little groggy this morning from the onslaught on our emotions yesterday, we go right to Twitter and see that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has essentially confirmed what many of us are thinking. The move for G.I. Joe: Retaliation wasn’t simply to convert the film to 3D, there are also some reshoots and new scenes being filmed.
Whether these new scenes are due to early screening reactions, or as The Rock says simply are being done to better take advantage of the new 3D technology is still unknown, but that is currently the spin.
