You know I almost didn’t post this, because as usual, I missed an episode with a famous Sunbow voice actor, and the guys took the opportunity to rib me about it…so screw ’em, right?
Nah. I’m nothing if not forgiving, so I’ll play nice and post the latest update for the What’s on Joe Mind podcast. This episode the guys are joined by Sunbow voice actor Neil Ross, who voiced the indelible Shipwreck, one of the most popular characters in the G.I. Joe mythology!
They also tackle all the latest news and information, and talk about the GIJCC 2012 Convention Set in its entirety. I’m jealous that I didn’t get the chance to share my .02. Ah, well, maybe I’ll make them revisit it tomorrow night.
Check out the latest episode on our Podbean page, or via the embedded player below, and don’t forget to hit the jump for our show notes.
It’s not very often that I see someone outside of a tight circle of G.I. Joe fans talk about the G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series, so kudos to Chris Cummins from Topless Robot for diving into G.I. Joe: Renegades territory with their most recent “Top 10” list!
And dammit, that list brings back all sorts of awesome memories. It also reminds me I need to get a version of the Episode 23 Promo posted to YouTube.
I can’t say I fully agree with all of his choices, or at least the order he put them in, but he breaks down some good reasons for each choice and I’m just smiling wide checking out all those promos again. Good times.
With the latest whirlwind of IDW news, many of us were pretty concerned about the potential fate of the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic. Well, thankfully, according to Larry Hama himself on Facebook, it seems like this comic will still be around for a while, which brings a huge smile to my face.
New comic day hits tomorrow, so we’ve got a 5-Page preview for you right here!

So the recent news about IDW streamlining their G.I. Joe releases caused me to check these solicitations with a little trepidation, but turns out if they are scaling things back at all, it’s not happening until after July. The solicitations at least still show our normal compliment of G.I. Joe related titles.

We discovered last week that G.I. Joe: Renegades was now available on the Netflix Instant streaming service, much to the joy of G.I. Joe fans everywhere. Now, we have a few more details behind the decision, including some exciting information about other Netflix offerings throughout 2012.
“Netflix will add popular Hasbro Studios series Transformers Prime and My Little Pony to its online instant streaming service as part of a multi-year deal with Hasbro Inc, the companies announced Thursday.
The Hasbro content, which also includes kids-targeted series Pound Puppies, G.I. Joe: Renegades and The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, will be available immediately on Netflix, as well as the Netflix “Just For Kids” section targeted to children 12 and under. The series currently air on the Discovery Communications/Hasbro Inc.-owned Hub network.
Other series such as JEM & The Holograms, Transformers: Generation 1, G.I. Joe: Real American Heroes,Transformers: Beast Wars and Transformers: Rescue Bots will follow later in 2012, said Hasbro.
“We are very excited to be working with Hasbro Studios,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Content Acquisition at Netflix in a statement. “This deal allows us to offer even more great kids’ programming to our members, both adults and kids alike, including new seasons of My Little Pony, Transformers Prime and Pound Puppies after the season finale airs on The Hub.”
Added Hasbro Studios President Stephen Davis: “We are pleased that consumers will now be able to watch our award-winning programming on Netflix, the leading internet subscription service. We are making our content easy to access, anytime, anywhere and on all platforms where audiences are consuming content and this is a big step forward with our all-screen strategy.”
So for folks who couldn’t be bothered to read through all of that, later in 2012, not only can we expect the new series that appear on the Hub, but we can also expect the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero to appear on Netflix Instant streaming! How cool is that? And…and… woah…missed that the first read through… BEAST WARS!!! NICE!
Glad to see Hasbro expanding the potential audience for their brands, and hope this results in more awareness and possibly an increased attention at mass retail. Time will tell. Once again, you can find the original article on Multichannel.com.
Once again running about a week behind, but I just can’t help it with all of the IDW awesomeness that comic stores are getting hit with on a weekly basis! To this point I believe I have reviewed every installment of the Cobra Command series, and here is a helpful little rundown of all of those reviews:
I’ll be honest, it’s been a great ride, but obviously every story arc is only as good as the last memory of it. So how does Cobra Command shake out? Click the Read the Rest of the Story link below for the details.
