What’s on Joe Mind Episode 72 Offends my delicate sensibilities

I promised myself I wouldn’t post about this episode…  the ridicule… the insult…  the depravity performed upon my favorite character in the G.I. Joe mythology was almost too painful to revisit here on my website.  But for the good of the listeners, I decided to be the bigger man.

Unfortunately a 103 degree fever and gut-punching flu bug kept me from participating in this episode, but that didn’t stop the boys and guest Ed Lydon from piling on poor Hit &  Run.  I’ll remember this, fellas.  As an aside, there is a terrific interview (that I did participate in) with Andrew Kishino, the voice of Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe: Renegades!  That almost makes it all worthwhile.

So Toys “R” Us has this computer listing for a Spec Ops Tomahawk and…wait…WHAT?

That was kind of my reaction when this news floated across the Internet this morning, courtesy of HissTank member Master Chief.  His eagle eyes dug into some SKU listings of G.I. Joe product, which I am mirroring below:

 786245 Movie 3.75″ figures $9.99
788551 Movie Delta Vehicle $21.99
786216 Ninja Showdown Set $24.99
786253 Ninja Mask $9.99
786274 Movie Alpha Vehicle $13.99
788535 Blade of Justice $16.99
788640 10″ Kata Battler $21.99
788713 Movie Bravo Vehicle $15.99
788772 Snake Eyes Ninja Set $27.99
788802 Battle Kata Weapon $15.99
863851 Ninja Chucks $9.99
867591 Ninja Command Blaster $29.99

828516 Micro Force Blind Bag $3.99
828613 Micro Force Starter Set $7.99

Now for the interesting items (all are Hasbro items):
655875 Ninja Army Special Ops $3.99
913370 Special Ops Starter Pack $4.99
835442 Special Ops Vehicles $24.99
913230 Special Ops Tomahawk $42.99

As Master Chief says, a lot of this is stuff that we already know, but what is this “Special Ops” stuff?  Sure, it’s the name of the online Facebook game, but I’m not sure that particular corner of the G.I. Joe marketing bracket has really been lucrative enough to garner it’s own branch of toys.

Based on price point above it almost seems like some of these pieces are gaming related.  They don’t appear to be Micro Force, since there’s a separate listing above for Micro Force already.  A low price point on the Ninja Army and the Starter Pack is very interesting…  although perhaps the Starter Pack and the Starter Set could be considered different?

Of course what’s drawing the most attention (as it should) is that listing for a Special Ops Tomahawk.  That certainly sent the G.I. Joe world on its ear today, understandably so.  The Joe design team has mentioned a few times that another classic vehicle was being planned for this year, similarly to the Skystriker, but I’m not sure anyone would have guessed the Tomahawk was a possible subject.  I know I wouldn’t have.  The tooling and expense required for a vehicle like that doesn’t seem feasible under a reasonable MSRP.  But, really, we’ve seen G.I. Joe reuse names a ton over the years…this could be something entirely unrelated.

Regardless of what it is, things are certainly looking a little more exciting for Toy Fair next week.  You can bet I’ll be in attendance to get all of the pics and information that I can!

Thanks again to Master Chief on HissTank for sparking this interesting speculation!

It’s officially 2013…G.I. Joe product hitting hot and heavy – UPDATED WITH KRE-O!

It seems like it’s been a long time since new G.I. Joe product has been spotted at normal retail outlets, but from the looks of things, they’re making up for lost time!  All at once, various different G.I. Joe products are starting to hit retail chains across the country.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Waves 2 & 3

Over on The Terror Drome, gijoefrank has posted photographic proof finding these figures at his local Target.  Over on HissTank reports of Wave 3 also being spotted at Target, and even K-Mart!

G.I. Joe Micro Force “Starter” Pack

Perhaps these have been mentioned somewhere, but I didn’t notice.  There is apparently a MicroForce “Starter Pack” featuring some Micro figures on an interesting packaging.  The below image was sent from Gary “cmdrinchief”.

EDIT

G.I. Joe Kre-O

I’ll blame my 48 hour flu with the fact that I missed an update from Now Back to G.I. Joe on Twitter saying that he found G.I. Joe Kre-O at his local Toys “R” Us!  He also, very awesomely, took some great pictures of some of the mini figures via his Instagram account.  I hate to say it, but those little guys are growing on me.  Check out the mirrored images below, and be sure to follow Now Back to G.I. Joe to see more of the great stuff he posts.

Also, you’re really going to want to add this HissTank post to your favorites if you’re hunting Kre-O.  The unique code on the back of the bags have already been linked to figures in the blind bags, so no more guessing!  I’m mirroring the code set for that below as well:

  • 23401 75 Alley Viper
  • 23401 76 Cobra Ninja Viper
  • 23401 77 Cobra Trooper
  • 23401 78 Crimson Guard
  • 23401 79 Cobra Axe Ninja
  • 23401 80 Kim Arashikage (Jinx)
  • 23401 81 Kamakura
  • 23401 82 Quick Kick
  • 23401 83 Rock-N-Roll
  • 23401 84 Scarlett
  • 23401 85 Adventure Team Commander
  • 23401 86 Torpedo

Along with the previously revealed Wave 2 3-Packs and the running changes for the discount figures, it looks like we are well underway on a new year of G.I. Joe at retail!  Enjoy it!

The What’s on Joe Mind Special Edition 23 Convention Brochure Read Along

I’ve been down and out with the flu for a few days and unfortunately have been lax with posting this, but as registration looms, seems like I should get it up in people’s faces so they can get well versed on what to expect from the G.I. Joe Convention.

For the past two years, we’ve recorded special editions based on the Convention Brochure, and the one we recorded last year was one of our most listened to episodes ever, so it was a no brainer to do it again…evidently people found it useful.

Check it out over on our Podbean Page, or via the embedded players below.

A full run down of Convention Exclusive images to date

As we prepare for registration today, I thought it would be helpful to capture all of the various images shown so far in one cohesive gallery.  I haven’t mirrored every single one of them, but considering we’re getting ready to plunk down some serious cash later on today, it might be beneficial to really see what we’re getting out there.

The G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club also posted some great group shots that I hadn’t talked about yet, which shows just how awesomely colorful this year’s set really is.  I’m loving it myself.  So here we have a break down, by set:

G.I. Joe: Nocturnal Fire (Night Force vs. Cobra Demolition Team)

no images were found

While I’m still not a fan of the decisions the Club made regarding Hit & Run, I think by and large this set is really nice.  I love that they went with a different Cobra Mortal, and even with the skin-tight outfits Frag-Viper and Letal are really awesome, especially considering we may get those figures before we even get the tooling they used in the main line.

The SAW-Vipers are really cool, too, and I’m certain the colors will be a bit more muted in person as they almost always are.  Being the late 80’s/90’s freak that I am, I really love seeing this rainbow of colors throughout the convention set, and the chosen characters were done very well.

Adventure Team: Secret Mission to Dragon Island

no images were found

This set is really growing on me as well.  As someone who collects 3 3/4″ almost exclusively, I’m really trying to hold myself back from jumping into this Adventure Team stuff, but the Collectors’ Club is making it very difficult.  From the awesome Henchman figure in 2010, right up through now, they’ve been really drawing from all mythologies and all pop culture and giving us some fantastic source material here.

The Adventure Team is slowly being drawn into the Real American Hero universe and I love it.  The secret spy/James Bond influences in this set are apparent, and the Club did a spectacular job with it.

Apparel

What’s that?  A glow in the dark t-shirt with HIT AND FREAKING RUN on it?  Yeah.  SOLD.  Seriously, that artwork is awesome, and I’m psyched the Club is using it on a t-shirt.  The glow in the dark aspect is a great touch as well, and since it’s black and white, I can just pretend he’s got the face camouflage and a more classic look.  🙂

The Adventure Team T-Shirt looks great, too, and I’m loving the hat.  All of this stuff will be available via online registration at some point (hopefully) today.  Be ready to make your choices!

GeneralsJoes reviews first two GIJCC Figure Subscription Service figures

We are two shipments deep into the Figure Subscription Service, and I’m finally getting some reviews in order.  It was a dead time for so long with G.I. Joe items and reviews that I’m going to have to get myself back into the swing of things here.

Between the FSS and the sudden appearances of G.I. Joe: Retaliation and MicroForce product, things might get a little bit busier ’round here.

The FSS Reviews will all be found in my Collectors’ Club review area, and I’ve also linked them below.  Pretty sure the first two are public knowledge by now, aren’t they?  It has been almost a month…
