As anyone who has seen my screen name knows (not to mention the name of the site itself) I’m a pretty big fan of the General Hawk character. Even as a kid, I loved how Hama portrayed him in the comics, and was endlessly annoyed that he somehow got blacklisted from the animation merely based on his resemblance to Duke. Heck, even when he appeared in Season 2, he had his hair color changed and didn’t seem to retain any of the hard-edged personality that I loved from the comic book.
However, I fully acknowledge that most folks know Hawk from his appearances in the cartoon, and the brown bomber jacket is certainly his iconic look, so I will admit, even though he’s in his ’86 togs I’m pretty freaking giddy to see him in the below Sideshow Production Blog:
Looks very cool. It should be noted there’s another figure in the background, which HissTank.com is labeling as “Grunt”, but there’s no proof I can see that this is the case. Regardless, love these behind the scenes peeks. Looking awesome.
Check out the production blog itself right here.
We saw them featured in various pictures with the upcoming 12″ Dusty and the Cobra Desert Weapons Cache, and now, in the latest collectors’ newsletter the Cobra Desert Sniper has finally been revealed in a preview right here!
The figure will get a full blown reveal in the Sideshow Production Blog on November 9th, but until then, this sneak preview will have to do:
A big thanks to Mysterious Stranger and 788 for the intel!
The Sideshow Collectibles 12″ Beachhead has been shipping and has reached collector hands already, and over on HissTank.com Whitehawk has posted a few pictures (with a full review on his website, The Impulse Nerd).
Granted, Sideshow’s gallery was pretty slick looking already, but these images have appealed to me all the more. Maybe it’s because I’ve recently gotten Duke in hand (review is coming, I promise) but this Beachhead is just impressive. Really impressive. Removable crossbow, awesome backpack, great commando sweater. Holy crap, this looks great.
Check out the mirrored images below, and be sure to check out the review directly.
Big thanks to GeneralsJoes contributor Mysterious Stranger for giving me a virtual “slap upside the head” for some missed details on the Sideshow Collectibles Q & A this morning. While I focused on the two questions that appeared on Tuesday’s slate, I missed the question that had been posed on Monday, and now, we also have a new question for today as well. Heck, they even posted a question from way back in August that I think I might have missed. Many fans (myself included) will be extremely pleased with what Sideshow revealed in Monday’s Q & A:
The 1986 Viper is getting the 12-inch treatment for a fact, and the twins are good possibilities (but a little further down the road).”
Yes, Sideshow has revealed that they will be doing a 12″ Cobra Viper. ROCK. As for their other details…
“Pump out more 1/6 scale Joes!
What a coincidence, we just had a meeting to look at the next 5 Joes, all mocked up and studly. Some greatness is coming, let me tell ya! Jungles, deserts, and marine environments should be well protected. ;)”
“Is a Blowtorch or Barbecue a character that Sideshow will consider realistic enough for 1/6th scale G.I. Joe? -AND- I really wanted to say that you guys are doing an awesome job on GI JOE. I just got the Cobra Throne, and it is easily the most startling item in my collection. And I’m looking forward to more of them. I have to ask, with the real world twist you apply to each character, will Joes that have bright colors like Blowtorch (a personal favorite of mine) be on your list? I’m curious how you’d adjust the colors.
Blowtorch made it to our planning, but has yet to find a ‘locked’ position in our development track. Our Creative Director, Tom Gilliland, has a serious soft spot for Blowtorch, thanks to his time working for Toys ‘R Us back in 1984/5/6. There was a kid that came every day to the store asking for Blowtorch, and one day, Tom was finally able to connect that kid with his long-sought-after figure, and it left a strong impression on Tom.”
So there you have it. We should be all covered. Chill the hell out, Stranger.
If you want to keep up to date on all of the Sideshow Collectibles G.I. Joe Q & A intel, this link should help you out!
This is music to my ears… Sideshow Collectibles posted their most recent Q & A, and featured a pair of G.I. Joe oriented questions. I’ve mirrored those questions below:
Destro is a lock for a late 2011 (or possibly early 2012) reveal, perhaps in two different formats at about the same time. Croc Master doesn’t have any definite plan, not yet.”
Can’t wait to hear more about Destro! Great news. Thanks to The Terror Drome for the information!
The Sideshow Collectibles Newsletter has launched, and with it, the pre-order for the Desert Weapons Cache w/ Sandstorm is now available for pre-order! Anyone who has ordered Dusty needs this! It even comes with his coyote sidekick from the ’91 version of the figure. Sweet!
Images can be seen on the pre-order page, and I’ve mirrored a nice image below as well. These environments tend to sell out quick, don’t miss it!
