If you attended the G.I. Joe Convention in Dallas this year, you likely took a picture in front of the special “explosion” backdrop that was featured there. What folks may not realize is that this backdrop was fully paid for by a devoted G.I. Joe fan, and the reaction it received has encouraged him to try something new and exciting for JoeCon next year!
The only catch? It’s an expensive proposition and he needs your help to fund it.
Ted has started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the next Photographic Backdrop for the G.I. Joe Convention! All of the details are on this YoJoe thread, and you can find the Kickstarter campaign right here. He’s not asking for much, so let’s see what we can do to help this get off the ground.

On the promotional tour for the latest Transformers blockbuster, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (who also produces the G.I. Joe films) was asked about the current status of G.I. Joe 3 by the folks at Collider. He confirmed earlier rumors from Dwayne Johnson that filming would begin in early 2015, and even more than that, fully put to bed the question of whether or not Jon Chu was returning to direct the third film.
Speaking of the directing efforts, Di Bonaventura said:
“We’re just starting [to talk to directors]. We’re negotiating with a writer right now, and once we close that deal—which should be any moment—then we’ll have a story locked down. I’m really excited about it.”
Interestingly, he also says they’re “negotiating with a writer”. Reports were that Evan Daugherty was writing the treatment, but either that’s changed, or he is being brought back to add some more polish to the script. As far as the shooting schedule goes, the producer says the following:
“G.I. Joe 3 we are trying to get going, starting early next year…I think it’ll be a little later than [January]. I think February or March is probably more realistic. We were originally shooting for January and I think it’s slid a little bit, but you never know. It’s still a little too early to tell yet.”
Again, this aligns with the rumors from Johnson reported several months ago. Speaking of Johnson, Di Bonaventura was quick to mention that he will play a central role in the third G.I. Joe film, but that other cast had yet to be determined. Obviously with the Arashikage symbol so front and center on the movie poster, you know there are some strong ninja elements at play…but it’s curious to see how few other commitments we have yet.
One things for sure, it’s sounding like G.I. Joe’s 51st Anniversary year is sure to be more eventful than his 50th.
Check Collider for full details.

The world of action figure Kickstarters is a roller coaster ride, and the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter campaign is no different! Today they surged through another milestone stretch goal, breaking $150,000 and unlocking King Leonidas and the Black Racer Gorgon.
Even better is every day we get closer to the $165,000 stretch goal level, and once that level is hit the “All In” funding option becomes a great deal, only getting better as the stretch goals go on.
Along with all of this, they are only 45 backers away from the magic 700, which adds the Amazon to those same levels, and makes the “All In” even better! Keep watching the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter and take best advantage of those stretch goals!

If there are any G.I. Joe fans following Botcon, you no doubt caught the news of the Transformers Collectors Club revealed their line up for their third Transformers Figure Subscription Service.
Nestled within some other familiar characters was none other than Serpent O.R., a character pulled from the Devis’ Due G.I. Joe Vs. Transformers “The Art of War” series! The Serpent O.rganic R.obot is obviously an homage to the classic Serpentor character from the G.I. Joe mythos.

Images from the slideshow have been posted on TFW2005.com and the resemblance to everyone’s favorite Cobra Emperor is immediately evident in the color scheme. Check out the mirrored image below. Pretty cool homage, I have to say!

by generalsjoes | Jun 21, 2014 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, G.I. Joe: The Movie
When it was first leaked that Duke might pay the ultimate price in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, there was much speculation that this was on the request of Channing Tatum himself. His star had risen dramatically since he appeared in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and the prevailing thought was that he didn’t want to be tied down to the second film. However, throughout all the interviews leading up to the film’s debut, he seemed to debunk that thought and said that Duke’s death just made sense within the context of the story.
Many had their doubts.
Turns out those doubts were spot on, as Channing Tatum spoke with Entertainment Weekly to promote 22 Jump Street and confirmed his own distaste for doing sequels in general:

This movie comes pretty quick on the heels of the first one. Do you both avoid sequels?
Tatum:
I try not to do them. I did not want to be in the sequel for
G.I. Joe.
You die almost immediately in it.
Hill: He’s like, “just kill me in the first five minutes”.
Tatum: “Go on without me, I’m good.”
While I have my own internal commentary for an actor that would determine the fate of a childhood cartoon hero to many merely because he doesn’t want to play the role, I think Paramount could have worked around the issue themselves with some creative re-casting.
All that being said, it is interesting to see the truth finally revealed. That would confirm that a Duke resurrection for G.I. Joe 3 (at least with Tatum in the role) isn’t happening. Thanks to Andrew Hall of the G.I. Joe Discussion Group on Facebook for the heads up.
