Very nice in depth pictorial and review of Rise of COBRA Night Raven

As G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA starts hitting retail shelves, expect more and more photos to start popping up…well, one of the more in depth series of images I’ve seen comes courtesy of The Terror Drome’s Dark 5cythe.

He gives it a very nice run down with lots of pictures, including comparison shots between the new and old Night Raven, and pictures of both of the recent Air-Vipers.  There are shots of the stickers, the parts, and just about every angle you can imagine.

Check out the full blown review and images here.

On a side note, yeah this thing is a lot smaller than its predecessor, but damn if it isn’t a pretty sweet looking airplane, at least in my opinion.  I love the shape, I love the style, and I don’t think the handle gets in the way at all.  Very nice.

Nostalgia strikes on Facebook

I’ve been on  Facebook for a while and I know a bunch of Joe-related friends of mine are on there, and I just got notification of something pretty cool.

“tkprime” is a Hisstank member, but also runs the MS Gulf Coast G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club.  Of course, you don’t have to be in MS or on the Gulf Coast to join, that’s just its general location.  Well, I have to say that he’s one of the more devoted Joe fans out there that I’ve met…he does some great things in the hobby that some times get a bit overlooked.  His most recent thing is to put every single vintage G.I. Joe commercial in the video section of his Facebook account.  That’s right.  Every one of them.  All those cool as hell live action 90’s commercials?  In there.  Those Hall of Fame commercials with the cartoons?  In there.  The first Joe cartoon ever aired?  It’s all there.

A very cool thing that probably took a ton of time and effort, but it’s there for anyone to enjoy, should they want to.  Of course you can also check out the aforementioned forums as well to see what they’re up to over there.

Some great reviews for the new G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA figures and vehicles

I’ve sung the praises of the LastBestAngryMan Toy Review blog in these pages before, but I must repeat myself.

LBAM has scored a bevy of the initial releases for the Rise of COBRA toys, including the Steel Crusher, Gunship, and a helping of Wave 1.  He’s reviewed them all in typical fashion right here.

Some very cool pictures and interesting insight as always.

Rise of COBRA – have you found them yet?

Word from far and wide across the internet is that Joe fans are having some luck this weekend already in toy scores from Toys “R” Us.  Specifically, a couple buddies of mine, Jay and Gary came upon a nice stacked set of shelves at a TRU in Indianapolis.  Interestingly enough, there were Firefly and Barbecue “Headquarters for Heroes” figures interspersed throughout the regular releases.  So yeah, these appear to be TRU exclusives, but not necessarily separate assortments.

I’m hoping to be able to hit a Target next Tuesday, so hopefully I can share in the brick and mortar goodness…  until then, keep hunting and keep talking about it, some of us are living vicariously through you.  😉

San Diego ComicCon Exclusive Pricing released

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere yet, but the official site for the 2009 San Diego ComicCon has listed their exclusives, and pricing for said exclusives.  They’ve got both the 12″ Baroness and the 3 3/4″ RoC themed Destro 2-Pack listed, her for $29.99 and the two Destro’s for $24.99.  Check out all of the direct listings right here.

Thanks to Mysterious Stranger for the info.

G.I. Joe: Resolute Sneak Preview footage finally available in high resolution!

No more shakey videocams from San Diego ComicCon!  Yes, G.I. Joe: Resolute has aired, and everyone has seen the SDCC and JoeCon footage by now, but not many folks have seen it in crystal clear high resolution.  See every bullet, every throwing knife, and hear every crunch of bone…

Big thanks to HissTank member tkprime we now know that Titmouse has posted a version of this video on their site here.  It’s video #25.  This footage was NOT SEEN during the actual Resolute production.

But for folks who don’t want to scroll through videos or might have a hard time navigating there, you can check it out embedded at YouTube as well.

News on the 12″ side of things (that isn’t Sideshow related, for once)

A few different interesting 12″ pieces of news today…  first of all, the Terror Drome is reporting about some images of a 12″ Stalker and Gung Ho that are very military in nature and really don’t seem to fit into the whole movie aesthetic.  Are they figures that were slated for release in the normal line before the Rise of COBRA infusion, or are they still to come?  Gung Ho could almost pass for his Resolute/video game version, so that’s something to watch for.

Also discovered by The Terror Drome is Entertainment Earth’s pre-order listing for the first wave of Rise of COBRA 12″ figures, including COBRA Commander.  This is the first time ole’ toasty’s been seen in twelve inch form:

Looking to beat the Rise of COBRA Street Date? Try Target!

Reports are flooding in from all over the country (and all over the internet) that various nationwide Target Department Stores have started stocking G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA ahead of the scheduled street date.  I’ve personally seen reports from JoeCustoms.com, JoeSightings, HissTank, and the Coil Club.

Those of you lucky folks with a local Target (of which I’m not…) get up early tomorrow morning and start shopping!  Don’t forget to use the Target.com product locator with the DCPI number 087-06-0246 just to see what might be there.  Keep in mind, this is NOT a “be all end all” way to do it, but it might give you a good place to start.

New images of boxed Alpha vehicles from HissTank.com

HissTank has posted some new boxed images of upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA vehicles.  We’ve seen most of this before in pre-production form, but a lot of the figures were swapped around and no one really knew their proper names.  Well, now we know.  Pictured below is:

  • Snarler Cycle w/ Beachhead and Rollbar (the urban deco repainted Airborne)
  • Sky Sweeper w/ Air Raid (dark blue repaint of Resolute Duke w/ Jet Pack)
  • Mantis Attack Craft w/ Aqua Viper Officer (black and red Lamprey repaint w/ removable helmet)

Also pictured is the four figure Target exclusive “Rescue Mission” set.  Check out the original thread here, and the images mirrored below.

I’ve also added all of the above images to the Rise of COBRA Toy SuperPage in their appropriate places.
