NBC’s Community set to air “G.I. Jeff” themed animated episode

The word has been out there for a little while that NBC comedy show Community would be airing an episode based on “G.I. Jeff”, which has some obvious ties to our favorite Real American Hero.

The Community Twitter account even posted an image of G.I. Jeff, which is animated in nature and bears a striking resemblance to a certain First Sergeant.

But wait… it gets better!  According to the Twitter account of Mary MacDonald Lewis, her, Bill Ratner, and Michael Bell all play roles in this animated episode!  They are, of course, the voices of Lady Jaye, Flint, and Duke from the Sunbow series.

No air date has been listed yet, but it certainly sounds like Joe fans are going to want to tune in for this one!

Planet ComicCon in Kansas City honors G.I. Joe with 50th Anniversary Panel

Hitting Kansas City this weekend is the region’s largest comic convention, Planet ComicCon, and for any G.I. Joe fans in the area, it’s something you’re going to want to check out.

Rob, the hard-working admin of JoeADay.com will be headlining a special 50 Years of GI Joe – the first action figure panel on Sunday from 2:00pm – 2:50 covering the history of G.I. Joe as well as the current fandom.

EDIT – Assisting Rob in the panel are great friends of GeneralsJoes Brian Sauer from Codename Iowa and Twitziller!  I can’t think of a better crew of G.I. Joe enthusiasts and afficianados!

It’s awesome to see a comic convention devoting some time and attention to our little corner of the toy world, and even more awesome to see that a friend and fellow Joe site admin is hosting the panel.

If you’re nearby, you gotta check it out, and let me know how it is.  I’m really wishing I could check it out myself.

Planet ComicCon is this weekend, running from Friday to Sunday, and again, this panel is from 2:00 – 2:50pm on Sunday afternoon.  Join Joe A Day admin Rob and celebrate G.I. Joe’s 50th Anniversary!

Final shipment of FSS 2.0 hitting mailboxes – the 13th figure conundrum

As I was driving down to New Jersey this weekend, my phone started buzzing, indicating some serious social media activity going on.  Obviously waiting until I was in a safe place to stop, I checked out what all the hub bub was about and discovered that indeed, big G.I. Joe news had broken on the weekend, and it was a weekend that I wasn’t going to be near a computer.

Ah, well.

So along with the last two figures of FSS 2.0 (two excellent figures, which have been unfortunately overshadowed by the drama surrounding figure #13) lucky recipients also got their hands on the mysterious “thirteenth figure”.  And like every other G.I. Joe fan on the Internet, I will push aside Dragonsky and Big Bear, and focus my crosshairs on #13.  However, I will do so after the jump so as not to reveal any spoilers.

New Jersey Collectors Convention is worth the trip

As someone who focuses much of his convention attendance on where I can cover the most news, it’s not often that I attend a Con just for the sake of going.  When my buddies at Boss Fight Studio mentioned they were heading down to New Jersey this past weekend and wondered if I wanted to join them, I decided to leave my official “news coverage” hat at home and just go for the heck of it.

Of course, Boss Fight would go on to make some big announcements during the Sunday show, but I was happy to just hang around and have fun.  And as someone who tends to be pretty selective about what shows I go to, I’m happy to say NJCC was absolutely worth the trip.  Read below for the full run down.

G.I. Joe Collectors Club reveals JoeCon Challenge Coin and Spy Island Map

I know I’m a day late and a dollar short on this one, but I thought it deserved a mention.  Over on GIJoeCon.com and the G.I. Joe Con Facebook page, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has revealed the G.I. Joe Challenge Coin that will be available at the 2014 JoeCon in Dallas.

Also, another accessory for the 12″ set was shown, too, in the form of a great looking map and map case.  According to the GIJoe Con Facebook page it may be a map of Spy Island, but folks have also drawn some parallels to Cobra Island.  Another possible link between the 12″ and Real American Hero universes?  Hmmm…

Check out the mirrored images below.

Clarification on the future of IDW’s main G.I. Joe title

Many folks have seen that the main G.I. Joe title from IDW Publishing has been noticeably absent from recent solicitation lists, and the rumors were circling that the book might be going the way of “Cobra” and “Special Missions”.

I reached out to Chris Ryall, Editor in Chief at IDW Publishing, and received the following reply:

“…the main title and Cobra are taking a small break. But will be back in a big way with a new team for THE FALL OF G.I. JOE. Coming, of course, this fall.”

So, this is pretty cool news.  Not only does this indicate that the main G.I. Joe title is going to be returning, but we’re going to be getting another Cobra book as well at some point this fall.

Meanwhile throughout the summer we can focus on A Real American Hero and Transformers and G.I. Joe.  I’m very glad to hear this.  Fred Van Lente’s work on the main title had been pretty fun, and Allor’s two follow ups so far were no exception to that either…  so I’m looking forward to seeing where things pick up this fall.  Mr. Ryall also mentioned that they would be discussing this in more depth soon, so expect more information to come.

Big thanks to him for his response!  For G.I. Joe comics fans, I would also encourage you to visit IDWPublishing.com and share the G.I. Joe comic love.  Make sure you get some letters in there for Postbox: The Pit while you’re at it.

Nerd Rage Toys news – Marvel Universe “Final Wave” In-Stock + Vintage Re-Stock!

Kre-O Mini Figures Wave 3 Blind Bag Codes

EDIT – Twitter friend Dan Uthman has found Atomic Man, so now we are fully stocked on blind bag codes!  Check ’em out below.

Most of them, anyway…  and yes, since we have blind bag codes, that also means that Wave 3 has been found at retail!

WestKoastKobra at HissTank.com reports that his local Toys “R” Us has stocked the third wave of mini figures (minus Atomic Man, unfortunately), and he scooped them all up, and has graciously laid down the blind bag codes for us!

33501 53 Andrew “Footloose” Meyers
33501 54 Lady Jaye
33501 44 Nunchuk
33501 52 Flight Jet Trooper
33501 03 Polar Assault Eel
33501 05 Tom “Torch” Winken
33501 66 Scrap Iron
33501 51 Carl “Doc” Greer
33501 43 Night Creeper
33501 04 Crimson Guard Tomax
33501 86 Low Light
33501 50 Atomic Man

The numbers in bold are the unique numbers to look for on the blind bags.  This information will also be put in my Kre-O SuperPage as well.  Interesting to note that the “Snow Serpent” is now the “Polar Assault Eel”.  Makes sense, because the classic file cards mentioned that Snow Serpents were arctic trained Eels, but I can only imagine it was a trademark thing.

He also snagged the Outpost Defender set.

I will fully admit I didn’t realize just how badly I was feeding for some new Kre-O’s until I saw this thread.  NOW I WANT ‘EM!

Big thanks to Todd from Magnum 6 Delta for the information!  Check out some of the images from WestKoastKobra below.
