I’ve been a bit behind the eight ball over the past couple of days while I deal with some home-related issues, but since I was posting the Resolute DVD review, I had to get something up there for the two most recent Gyre-Viper discoveries over at HissTank.com.
Man, I love seeing this stuff…both from an unproduced or pre-production perspective, but also because it gives us some great detail on figures that are “in the hopper”…and I was pretty psyched about that mail away Cobra Commander. Now, I’m way beyond psyched. This guy looks in SANE. The dark chrome red finish on the torso is cool enough, but that rough metallic facemask is just too cool for words. Much more imposing than the previous version. I really like it…more than I thought I would. Gotta love the removable twin-barrel machine gun from the HISS Tank drone, too. Check out the original thread, or the mirrored images below.

The Whirlwind stuff is cool, number one because we get a peek at the original paint scheme (at least a little bit) for the vehicle that was slated to come with Recondo. But at this point what really interests me is that Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper. I know a lot of folks have been complaining about the green, but I love it. The Range-Viper has always been designed as a wilderness trooper, so the green and gray are awesome colors. I do think it will look a bit less “sparkly” in person…the coolest thing to me about this particular Range-Viper, though, is that it uses the Resolute Trooper as a base figure, so not only does it have some great articulation and design aesthetics, but it can be used as a “Death Squad” trooper of sorts in your Resolute universe. Oh, and I guess the Cobra Whirlwind repaint is okay, too. :shifty:
Check those out here, and below.

Stop it. That’s not Cobra Commander nor will it be no matter how many versions of it, in however many color combinations, they produce.
That Cobra Commander is amazing. Probably the best design for Cobra Commander in years. I like the reflective mask much more than Cobra Commander’s other translucent one, and the red chest gear/armor is awesome. This Cobra Commander toy looks supremely menacing.
Good to know they fixed the holes in the chest from the version they showed at the Joe con.
Love the new helmet, looks so much more accurate to the film (except without visible eyes).
Also, comment poster “Cobra Commander” needs to seriously GET OVER IT. Seriously. The movie’s here, the movie’s popular, live with it.
Geesh, a lot of people complain about Transformers fans being a bunch of bitchpants, but so many more GIJoe fans seem that much more traumatized by change. ONOES GIJOE IS ANIMATED BY A JAPANESE STUDIO IN ANIME STYLE DETH OF TEH LINE ONOES GIJOE IS GETTING A NEW ORIGIN STORY AND CHARACTERS ARE BEING REINVENTED DETH OF TEH LINE.
No wonder so many want the 25th style to keep going instead of Rise Of Cobra and new ideas. They are TERRIFIED of new ideas.
Hasbro should totally stop doing new things and producing new cartoons and just air the Sunbow cartoon endlessly!
Mail-away movie Cobra Commander is so much better looking than the first movie version they released. The new head really helps. The overall uniform is still kinda iffy looking though. Maybe it’s the armor and wingtips combo that’s throwing me off.
What I’m really excited about is the HISS Drone. Hasbro, do more stuff like that and Ripcord’s PAC/RAT and less stuff like them bigass missle launchers.
Sooooo…how exactly would one go about getting this mailaway CC? I’ve been scouring everywhere for info…
A black Cobra trooper!!!!! This is a 25th first!
I’m not a fan of the RoC Cobra Commander but i will admit that the mail-away is a big improvement.
I’m digging the Cobra Whirlwind. The Range-Viper looks cool. I’m thinking of using him as the RV that was a member of the Plague in the DD comics.
He’s got a chrome-head for christ’s sake! he’s got the same colors of destro! that’s not a cobra commander, that’s the commander’s & destro’s son. Considering how awful the movie script was, this makes perfect sense.
I like that COBRA Commander, though I still don’t think I can use him as such. I’m waaaaaay behind on info, so how exactly does one get that COBRA Commander? Obviously through mail-order, but any details?
In response to Neon viper and several others, I give you this Shortpacked comic strip:

Lol. Wow. I hadn’t seen that shortpacked strip. That’s both harsh and totally accurate! I just finished watching the movie on DVD and noticed the mail away is actually the movie accurate Cobra Commander.
MAN that CC rocks! Very cool.
The Range Viper, though, stands out very nicely. I mean, this is the first time EVER that the Range Viper is actually in the colors of his element! Who would have ever thought of that? I’ma get a few of those! Good thing he’s packed with a gun station too, I mean, doesn’t hurt to have a couple of those either. Great set there!
