G.I. Joe is certainly all about characters, but it’s also about the hardware. After all, the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero concept was sold as a vehicle idea with the figures simply being compliments to the military ordnance that accompanied them. It really speaks to Larry Hama’s characterizations that allowed the universe to thrive over the past 30 years.
The idea of “10 minutes in the future” for military hardware keeps things somewhat grounded, yet still science-fiction enough to be different from your standard 21st Century technology. The Ripsaw is an awesome way to touch both ideals, and manages to mesh with existing G.I. Joe concepts quite nicely.
Why isn’t that Ripsaw Tank part of the vehicle assortment for the toys?
While it’s not an exact translation, the “Tread Ripper” tank is close enough to work, I think. I’m sure that’s what it was meant to be, anyway.
